Rather than JEE Mains percentile or score, you should check the JEE Mains rank. For 2021, the required JEE Mains cutoff for CS at KJ Somiya was 1338 in round 1 and 2584 in round 2.

You will have a better chance of getting admission at KJ Somiya if you are Gujarati. The cutoff for the minority quota is comparably lower.

Rather than JEE Mains percentile, KJ Somaiya takes admission based on JEE Mains rank. For 2021, the required cutoff for KJ Somaiya was as follows.

Branch  Cutoff
Computer Science  1338
Information Technology 1824
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering  4525
Artificial Intelligence and Data Science  2562

These were the cutoff for general category students.

You can get any branch at KJ Somaiya with 140 in MH CET 2022, if you have Gujrati minority. But if you are a general category student, getting branches like CSE/IT will be difficult with 140 scores. These are among the most opted branches and KJ Somaiya Cutoff remains above 150-160 for CSE/IT (general category).

It is not just KJ Somaiya, but every college you decide to go to, find out the following, especially for post-graduate studies:

  • Qualifications of the professors in your college
  • The crowd of the college and scope for securing internships on different topics
  • If there is any research going on in the college and if so, how is the research cell? Many M. Tech students wish to do something new and collaborate with people having the same interests as well.
  • Opinions of others about the college. When you interact with the students you will come to know what places are nice and where you can hang out

A friend of mine completed her M. Tech from KJ Somaiya and her experience was average. The research cell is not great and some teachers are well versed in their subject whereas others struggle with basic knowledge.

If you are concerned about placements, those are definitely improving over the years and this college will only be a good option for you if you are not looking for placements.

I can give you information about KJ Somaiya and DJ Sanghvi since I have friends from these institutes.

  • If you are inclined towards an autonomous university, then KJ Somaiya would be a better choice. Apart from that, you can choose either institute based on how close it is to your location.
  • Both the institutes share almost the same placement records. Here is a brief highlight of the same.
Institutes KJ Somaiya DJ Sanghvi
Highest Salary Package INR 29.75 LPA INR 20.38 LPA
Average Salary Package INR 9.4 LPA INR 6.60 LPA
Top Recruiting Firms Cognizant, FedEx, Amazon, ITC, DE Shaw, Zolo Stays, PwC, Accenture J.P Morgan, Adobe, Morgan Stanley, Reliance Industries Ltd., MU Sigma
  • DJ Sanghvi has a 50% Gujarati minority, exactly like KJ Somaiya, which means students of the same location have pretty high chances of being shortlisted.
  • The cut-off, however, is relevant in both institutes. You need to obtain scores above average in order to get shortlisted.
  • The campus life at KJ Somaiya is one of the best you will encounter, unlike many others.

DJ Sanghvi and KJ Somaiya offer similar opportunities to the students. However, KJ Somiya offers a better campus life and more academic freedom.

A few years back, one of my friends took admission at KJ Somaiya via the ILS quota in the department of Mechanical Engineering. There were around 12 seats available. The fee was the same for everyone, irrespective of the quota.

He filled up a form on the college’s website and a merit list came out based on their CET marks. My friend’s merit number was in the 70s. If you want admission, you will have to be physically present on the day of counseling along with the fee. They were called for admission based on their merit number. The number of seats available was displayed on an LCD for all the branches. As people took admission, it got updated. When your number is called, you will have to go to the table and select your branch.

This was the process followed a few years back. However, I do not think that there has been any change in the process.

My sister studied at KJSCE and grabbed an offer to work with TCS. So you should not concern yourself about placements because it is excellent. It's an autonomous institute, so more companies are visiting now.

If you're joining KJSCE because your goal is MBA then keep in mind that even if you amass good work experience, it matters from where you have gained that experience from. For example, having experience in the mechanical field won't get you the IT job you aspire to. So choose the branch that interests you because you'll have to spend 4 precious years in that.

Who knows, even after 4 years of engineering with 3 years of work experience making it a total of 7 years, you might notice huge changes in your thought process. And even after its completion, when you go for placements, your field of study in UG will matter. Let’s say you are appearing for a managerial post in an IT firm, then you will definitely have a better preference if you did your UG in IT or CSE.

It’s good to think ahead but don’t just choose a branch based on the placement.

KJ Somaiya College of Engineering is simply amazing, with the best campus and faculty. Excellent football field, badminton court, table tennis, carrom, and so on. Simple to reach. The canteen is reasonably priced and serves delicious food. Every event over there will be enjoyable for you.

Because your branch is mechanical, the crowd may differ, but all of the students there come from good families. Because of the cutoff, the Mechanical crowd is generally smarter than other branches.

There are many things you can do with your studies, such as joining a team that builds something. Orion Racing creates race cars, Redshift Racing creates ATVs, Onyx creates aircraft, and Team Eta creates fuel-efficient vehicles. You can also create your own project if you don't want to join anything.
