The answer may seem a little bit biased, but everything written in the following is my friend's personal experience.

He was in the batch of 2018 in the CS Department. His JEE Main rank was 28 (AIR), and he selected this institute as there were no other options like IITs or top NITs.

It was completely unbelievable to him as the institute was recently established. Within just 2 years, it became so developed; however, everything happened due to NIT Jamshedpur's mentorship.

This institute did not have any discrimination; rather, you will get the opportunity to sit in the NIT Jamshedpur placement process. It is no doubt a great prospect for the students of this institute.

There was a break up for IIIT, and within the next 2 years, as my friend told me, it might become low.

Additionally, this institute's official strength is approximately 120-180, which considers the best for this new institute. It is also a great achievement for this institute.

IIIT Ranchi is a fairly new institute. It had the first placement drive in 2020. Since it is under the supervision of NIT Jamshedpur, the placements have been quite good. Also, it is a PPP mode type institute. Three companies are associated with the institute, i.e. TataMotors, TCS, and CCL.

As of now, it is uncertain, when IIIT Ranchi will get its new campus. As per the local reports, the land on which the new campus was supposed to be constructed is under dispute due to which, the new campus of IIIT Ranchi is not going to be set up in the upcoming 5 years. All this work of sorting the dispute is under the government and all might take some time. 

If you’ll look into the scenario, you’ll get to know that the IIIT Kota has still not got its campus. Therefore, chances are quite low that IIIT Ranchi is getting its new campus soon in the near future. In fact, if the disputes get cleared, then also there are certain permissions, and tenders need to process for equipment and mess and all which is another time taking procedure that may take 1-2 years more. 

If you are looking forward to taking admission to IIIT Ranchi, you do not need to worry because you will complete your graduation under the mentor institute of IIIT Ranchi i.e. NIT Jamshedpur. You will be able to enjoy all the facilities offered by NIT Jamshedpur. Including its placements and degree.

IIIT Ranchi is one of the most-recent IIIT in India. It has a brand name. So, the reputation of the college will steadily grow as the year passes.

It has a parent institute known as NIT Jamshedpur. NIT Jamshedpur is a good institute. So, it can be expected that IIIT Ranchi will follow in the footsteps. IIIT Ranchi already has similar facilities like NIT Jamshedpur.

There are two types of IIITs.

• State-funded like IIIT Delhi, IIIT BBSR, etc
• Centrally-funded like IIIT Allahabad

IIIT Ranchi is a centrally-funded institute. It has the potential to surpass the barriers of CFTI that has some benefits of its own. As it is an IIIT, the crowd of the college is also decent.

I know some of the people from both institutes. Based on what I heard from them, IIIT Bhopal is better than IIIT Ranchi. 

A few of the reasons to choose IIIT Bhopal are as follows. 

• Mentor Institute: IIIT Bhopal is mentored by NIT Bhopal and classes are held inside the campus of NIT Bhopal itself. So you will have access to all the experienced faculty and facilities you would have got if you were in NIT. Being in NIT, you can participate in all the national-level competitions.
• Location: The location of IIIT Bhopal is great. It is located in the peaceful city of Bhopal. It has less traffic and the college is close to both the airport and railway station.
• Hostel: Hostels for the first are at RGPV University, which is the head university of all the engineering colleges in the state. It has a huge campus with modern facilities. Buses are provided from hostel to college and that too free of cost.
• Food: The quality of food at the canteen is not so good.
• Academics: Academics facilities are great and you have to work hard to stay in sync with the syllabus. The course-work will be quite hectic in the first year and you would be given 30,50 or sometimes even 100 questions as an assignment. You will learn C-Programming, HTML, CSS, latex, etc.

For CSE, NIT Uttarakhand is a decent option. Given below is a brief review of NIT Uttarakhand.

Criticism:

• NIT Uttarakhand is in a remote place, away from the city. So if you are not used to living an isolated life, it will be difficult for you to adjust. Even traveling to Srinagar Garhwal will be difficult.
• The infrastructure of the college is not that great to appease you. It will feel dismaying. It is improving gradually.

Brownie Points:

• NIT is a brand. It has special importance and value to the nation. The CSE branch is always advancing and can add special talents to the industry. In this institute too, there are many talented students.
• The faculty of the institute is from renowned institutes like IITs/NITs. The professors are highly qualified and teach students proficiently on-line with the GATE syllabus.
• Students are from diverse backgrounds. They are not just from Uttarakhand, but also all other states.
• The placements of the CSE branch are elevating every year. Different recruiters give different offers to students. The recent placement statistics of the institute is as follows.

• Many companies give internship opportunities with PPOs to the students too.

No matter how much the infrastructure lacks, the students get rewarded in the future if they work hard. Currently, IIIT Ranchi and Thapar may have better infrastructure or even placement records, but NIT Uttarakhand is improving with time and will definitely improve a lot in coming years.

Yes, you should go ahead and join for sure. But there are certain conditions you should consider before you go ahead with your decision. Here are some points to consider:

• If for some reason, you don’t get into a better government college or any of the premier private colleges, you can definitely consider going to IIIT Ranchi. You will get a number of facilities there, especially from NIT Jamshedpur.
• IIT Ranchi is an institute known for its national importance. This is further enhanced by the fact that it is under NIT Jamshedpur’s mentorship. This makes a great difference between the colleges.
• The campus stretches on for about 67 acres and if you are keen on facilities, you will get those as well. These include the various sports facilities and labs as well. In my opinion, you will be provided much more than any other new IIITs or NITs. NIT Jamshedpur has all the facilities that you may need.
• The place is great in terms of crowd. It is a mix of the NIT and IIIT crowd which will help you mix well and have friends around in all events.
• Lastly, you should know that 1st and 4th-year students stay at NIT Jamshedpur campus and 2nd and 3rd-year students are shifted to the Ranchi temporary campus.

In my opinion, you should choose wisely and make a decision accordingly as ultimately, it is your future that you will be making a decision on.

The ECE branch at IIIT Ranchi is not that good. IIIT Ranchi is also being shifted to a temporary campus in Ranchi very soon. In the new temporary campus, the distance between the hostel and the academic block will be 10-15 km. 

• The recruitment process for new faculties also is not fair. However, if you want to pursue pure ECE or CSE, the faculty quality is decent. 
• You will also need to keep a good relationship with the faculties to score well in the examination. 
• The placement statistics also are not that good. With a batch size of 120-150, it will be quite difficult too. The batch intake is also likely to increase to 180. 

It is very unlikely that IIIT Ranchi will have a permanent campus any time soon. So, it will be better if you don’t go for IIIT Ranchi.

Consider joining IIIT Ranchi, only if your JEE mains ranking is around 30-50K and you are not left with any other better options. It's a fairly new college and only had one placement session. 

As of now they do not have a permanent campus and are operating from their interim campus located in Ranchi. Construction of a permanent campus is going on and it will take a few more years to be under active enforcement. Till then you will stay and study in the NIT Jamshedpur campus and will be provided all their facilities.

Now, whether or not IIIT Ranchi will be a good option for you, that depends on your expectation from the degree.

• Clearly, if your rank lies in that range, you can opt for IIIT Ranchi rather than some lesser-known private institutes. But you need to work hard and do well during the placement drive. 
• However, you will not get a higher package than NIT Jamshedpur students, since placements are handled by NIT Jamshedpur. 

Companies will certainly look for the best in the lot. So if you are really passionate about ECE and know what you are doing then you can certainly go for IIIT Ranchi.
