Course Curriculum Overview:

I wanted CSE and it was the best college where I can get CSE at my rank as it is one of the few IIITs which have its own campus. the student-teacher ratio is 15:1. Most of the faculty members have their Ph.D. from IITs and NITs. There is 2 cycle test and one end-semester exam, relative grading is there.

I have interested in electronics society so I select this branch as my preferred list. Here all the faculties are highly qualified and experienced. The faculty-student ratio is about 1:25. There are 2 cycle tests which are held at the interval every 1 month and at the end of the semester there is a final exam. The exams happen on time and it is not too hard to pass them but for better performance, you have to study hard.

B.Tech ECE is a good course and it offers a good number of opportunities to students. Faculty: student is at about 1:20 in our branch. Faculties are well qualified from IIT, NIT, and IIIT with B Tech or Ph.D. There are two CT(Cycle Tests) per semester and one End Semester ends. That's why it is a little bit difficult to examine the schedule concerning NITs or IITs.

I always liked computers and wanted to study and learn all the possible things to learn about these devices. This made me choose this course. The student: faculty ratio is good, it's somewhat around 14:1. 50% of teachers are Ph.D. and some are doing it. We have one end sem exam, two-cycle tests and unit tests, and vivas and lab demos assigned with each cycle test and end sem.

Indian Institute of Information Technology - [IIIT]: 27 answered questions

Ques
How was the placement of IIIT Una this year? Should I go for IIIT Una?

● Top Answer By Shweta Das on 25 Mar 21

Ans
The placements of IIIT Una have improved this year as compared to last year. Training and placement cell is working really hard to improve it and as mentioned on the official site there is 100% placement this year and this is really good. The average package is not declared yet officially but the highest package was 13.6 LPA . Off-campus placement is good too and the highest package off-campus is about 60 LPA. And the placement will increase exponentially in the coming years. Since this year the college will be shifting to Una campus there will be better connectivity to train and ease of commuting which can help companies to visit frequently. If you are thinking of joining IIIT Una that means your JEE rank is something like either you can opt for newer IIITs with higher branches or can opt for lower branches in NITs. My friend was stuck in the same dilemma but after coming to IIIT Una she realized that it was the best decision that she didn’t compromise branch for college. Pros of joining IIIT Una: You will get the latest curriculum which is far better than NIT’s. You can check the curriculum on its official website You will see that there is more emphasis on practical knowledge which is a huge plus point. And, from this year onwards they will be having the concept of relative marking just like IIT. The practical course constitutes a minor project work based on the concurrently studied theory in that semester. Your 6th semester will be purely dedicated to internships so that you can have industrial exposure. You will get an amazing coding culture and helpful seniors too. Lastly, if you want to opt for an institute of national importance with this JEE rank, then IIIT Una is really a good option. Do not go for lower branches of NIT or any other private colleges.

Ques
If I take admission in the very first batch of IIIT Una (cs), Himachal Pradesh, will I surely be placed? What is the best placement story of someone who got placed from the first batch of IIIT/NIT?

● Top Answer By Uttirna Sarkar on 26 Mar 21

Ans
There is no surety that you will be placed in a good company. It only depends upon your capability and your hard work. You will have to look for the companies and talk to the placement department as well.  Categories CS at IIIT Una Course Fee 8.16 lakh Placement Percentage 80% Highest CTC 15 LPA Average CTC 4.8 LPA Recruiting Companies Samsung, ULT, Infotech, L&T, etc. If you are only concerned about placements then you should opt for IIIT Guwahati. This institute offers a rich coding environment. Their first-year students won a robotics competition organized by IIIT Guwahati. The faculty members of this institute are supportive and they will encourage you to participate in various competitions. IIIT Una is a new institute when compared to other institutes. However, if you have started competitive coding, then it’s a plus point. To ace the placements, you must become the best in coding.

Ques
Which is better, IIIT Sonipat, IIIT Una, or IIIT Vadodara?

● Top Answer By Tanmay Ghosh on 26 Mar 21

Ans
Direct communication cannot be compared but one of my friends suggested that IIIT Vadodara is an older institute in comparison to the others. The placement officer of IIIT V is good and will be helping in getting good placements by calling good companies to the campus. The college also sends for internships in companies like Amazon. Some of the students also got selected in Google Summer of code. The comparison table of IIIT Sonepat, IIIT Una, or IIIT Vadodara is as follows: IIIT Una IIIT Vadodara IIIT Sonepat Placement percentages 100% 100% 82% Average package 8-9 Lakhs 13 Lakhs 8.19 Lakhs Highest package 13.6 Lakhs 43.5 Lakhs 40.63 Lakhs Top recruiting companies IBM, Reliance Jio, L&T InfoTech, Ebiz ON, First American etc. Amazon, Mathworks, Adobe, Quikr, Siemens, Sigmoid, ICICI Bank, etc. Adobe System, IBM, Q3 Technology, Posist Technology etc. Since IIIT Una has recently opened, it is not working independently. This college has no relation with NIT Hamirpur which makes it a bit risky.  IIIT Sonepat is much better in terms of placement. The reason is that the companies find it much closer in distance as compared to other institutions. It can be suggested that you first check admission at IIIT Sonepat then at IIIT Vadodara and then go for IIIT Una.  It is always suggested to look for more information from the old alumni IIIT V as they will better tell you about the past placements.

Ques
How is the placement at IIIT Una? Are the students placed along the students of NIT Hamirpur?

● Top Answer By Arjun Sharma on 26 Mar 21

Ans
IIIT students sit along with the NIT students during classes. During placements, the students of both IIIT and NIT sit together for campus placements.  In general, the placements of IIIT students are less as compared to NIT but some bright students of IIIT get good placement along with good packages. The IIIT students also sit for the campus placements at NITH but some companies don’t allow the IIIT students. At the end of the day, it only depends upon your capability, hard work, and talent. You will get ample opportunities for placements. The other facilities, academics, hostels, etc are all the same for IIIT. Categories IIIT Una Course Fee 8.16 lakh Placement Percentage 80-90% Highest CTC 20 LPA Average CTC 4 LPA Recruiting Companies Samsung, ULT, Infotech, L&T, etc. All that matters is the skill that you will gain through learning which will help you get good placements with a good package. The IIIT students have got good placements with the highest package off campus too.

Ques
How good is IIIT Una (Hamirpur)?

● Top Answer By Janvi Singh on 15 May 21

Ans
IIIT Una Harimpur has just two branches, i.e. CSE and ECE. The campus is under construction, so it operates from the NIT Hamirpur campus. A relative of mine who used to be a student of IIIT Hamirpur has said that studying in NIT Hamirpur is the same as studying in the latter.  The campus of NIT Hamirpur is the best thing about the institute. The infrastructure is commendable, the environment in the college is nice. Other features of IIIT Una are as follows. Hostel: KBH is the hostel for the students of the first year. It has five blocks. The students of IIIT Una are given a separate block that is the C block. From their second year onwards, students have the liberty to choose rooms as per their choice. Classes: The students of IIIT Una and NIT Hamirpur attend classes together as they do not have separate classes. The students of IIIT Una and NIT Hamirpur are provided the same facilities. The former is a growing institution whose coding culture is booming.

Ques
Is it a good idea to take admission in IIIT Sonepat or IIIT Una?

● Top Answer By Isha Duggal on 22 Mar 21

Ans
IIIT Sonepat and IIIT Una both are premier institutes. They are ranked amongst the top IIIT institutes. The choice between both of them is quite difficult and they present quite a good picture in terms of performance & various other factors.  The prominent factors are discussed in detail below: Academics IIIT Sonepat offers two specializations when it comes to B.tech; primarily IT and CSE but IIIT Una offers 3 specializations by adding one more stream in form of ECE.  Both of them look up to JEE scores while admission of prospective students. Scholarships IIIT Sonepat offers scholarships to students from different meritorious and reserved categories.  The benefits are also given to students whose annual income is less than INR 6 LPA. IIIT Una does not provide this facility. Placements The placement scenario of colleges is described below: Particulars IIIT Sonepat IIIT Una Percentage Of Students Placed 82% 100% Number Of Recruiters 22 30 Highest Salary INR 40.63 LPA INR 13.5 LPA Average Salary INR 8.19 LPA INR 4.5 LPA The recruiters on both the campuses are good & reputed like IBM, Reliance, Analytics, Quotient, WEP Solutions, Ebizon, Vihaan Networks. The package offered at Sonepat although is high as compared to Una. IIIT Una is in collaboration with NIT Hamirpur while Sonepat is in sync with NIT KKR. Joining any one of them is better than joining any private institute as the exposure is quite good and that too is in sync with experienced faculties.

Ques
Should I join IIIT Una for CSE?

● Top Answer By Aditya Banerjee on 01 Oct 22

Ans
You can join IIIT Una for CSE. It offers good academics and facilities for Computer Science. According to the recent highlights of IIIT Una placements, almost 100% of students from CSE get placed with good salary packages. The average CTC received by the students of this branch is around INR 9 LPA. Mostly SDE roles are offered in the campus drive.

Ques
Which is best CSE in IIIT Una or IIIT Sonipat?

● Top Answer By Shivam Singh on 22 Mar 21

Ans
IIIT Una & IIIT Sonipat both are of the new 20 IIITs established recently. They do not present quite a great picture for comparison. The decision can be taken with respect to factors like location, placements, and academic curriculum in general as per the CSE stream. Academic Curriculum Both the IIITs are popular for providing computer-related courses as they were established with that specific purpose.  Sonepat offers courses at Rs. 5.80 Lakhs while Una offers it at Rs. 7.91 Lakhs. IIIT Sonepat offers scholarship opportunities too. Location The locations of both the campuses are not that lucrative in respect of placements as Haryana and Hamirpur are not that preferable as compared to Bangalore & Hyderabad.  The campus infrastructure is quite great; offering green lush space to experience the environment. Placements The placement details of both the campuses are given below : IIIT SONEPAT IIIT UNA Number Of Recruiters 22 20 Highest Package INR 40.63 LPA INR 13.5 LPA Average Package INR8.19 LPA INR 4.5 LPA Top Recruiters Oyo Rooms, Car wale, Paytm , Adobe systems, IBM, Q3 Technology, Infoedge IBM, Reliance, Greyb , Cognizant, First American IIIT Sonepat has a great package range with a good option when it comes to a choice between MNC’s. IIIT’s were established with a motive to spread the range of CSE but before going for IIIT’s a careful analysis is a must look after every possible factor that can act as a deterrent.

Ques
IIIT Una, Himachal Pradesh will get its first batch this year. Shall I prefer it over NIT Srinagar?

● Top Answer By Shaurya Verma on 22 Mar 21

Ans
CSE is one of the top streams that can be successful only when you are interested to pursue the domain of computers & programming.  NIT Srinagar can be a better option when compared to IIIT Una because it has been established for quite a long now. However, if you are looking only for placements, then you must know that no MNCs have visited the campus. Overall the placements are fine. Academic Curriculum IIIT Una provides the B.tech course at Rs. 7.91 Lakhs providing three streams in general.  NIT Srinagar gives the scope to the individuals to pursue their career from 8 streams within a fee range of Rs 5.30 Lakhs.  Placements The current placement scenario can be looked upon in detail as follows: IIIT UNA NIT SRINAGAR Highest Package 13.5 LPA 22 LPA Average Package 4.5 LPA 13 LPA Top Recruiters IBM, Reliance, Analytics, Quotient, Wipro GAIL, HP, Honda, Indian Oil, Mahindra A few years back, the condition was not that good as a lot of multi-national corporations were not interested in recruitment. But the scenario is improved a lot in respect of companies and academic curriculum to a large extent. The interest in coding can also act as a prominent factor to choose the requisite college.

Ques
Which/why is best for CSE: IIIT Una or NIT Uttarakhand?

● Top Answer By Ayan Khandelwal on 01 Apr 21

Ans
One of my friends is currently enrolled for the 2022 batch at IIIT UNA. He has completed two years already with a rank below 30,000 and he got into CSE, if you have a rank between 30-36k then you won't have many other options available.  He had the option to choose between Thapar Institute of Technology, IIIT UNA, and UIET Chandigarh, and unfortunately, the choice of IIIT UNA was a regrettable decision. Firstly it does not have a good rank; secondly, you may see why as follows- NIT Hamirpur is the mentor institute at which my friend’s batch studies as part of the 2022 batch which is the only batch there without any seniors, labs, or societies. Administration-The institute lacks efficient management, it is headed by a dictatorial administrator who likes to make changes without prior announcement. Recently, a fine of INR 5000/subject was imposed on students for a shortage of attendance. Tuition Fees- For each year of the academic program, you'd have to deposit a high Tuition Fee of INR 2.05 LPA, which is steep because of the lack of facilities. College Environment- If you're seeking a happening campus life at IIIT UNA, then you'd be disappointed. There are hardly 2 or 3 clubs like Aavesh and Force, but joining them will be difficult owing to their eligibility criteria. Lastly, I'd like to highlight the placement scenario as the placement cell clearly states that they are not responsible for the placement provision. Only CSE and IT departments receive some companies, for ECE there are only coding jobs available. So, Thapar Institute of Technology and UIET Chandigarh are much better in terms of opportunities provided, college life, and alumni support.
