I wanted to pursue my career in higher mathematics, BHU is a very good career platform for a master's in mathematics. The faculty-student ratio is about 1:5. All the faculties of BHU are highly educated. They all have done their PhD in their specialization. Their teaching method is very helpful. Bhu has a semester type of exam pattern. The exams were held twice a year. If we study regularly for 1-2 hours it's easy to score well in the term examination.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I took admission in BA (Hons) Arts - English. I chose it because I am fascinated by English literature although in 12th I was in PCM i.e Science stream. In BA (Hons) you have 3 subjects (2 core and 1 honor), 1 language, and 1 soft skill paper (only in 2nd year). There is approx 40:1 student-teacher ratio but on an average day not more than 25 students are present in the class (that's college for you. All teachers are quite proficient and highly qualified. Most of the professors have a very enjoyable way of teaching but some others' classes are just boring! Here is semester system i.e in 3 years, we have 6 semesters in total. Semester exams are conducted timely and strictly! Each paper is of (70+30) marks- 30 marks for assignments & class test and 70 marks for theoretical exams. The theory exams are quite strict and if you don't study you are most likely to fail.

I chose this course as I want to build a career in Literature and the University is quite reputed and has a good ranking. The faculty-student ratio is not adequate. It's 1:60 on average with some streams exceeding 70 students per teacher. The faculty has one good quality in common, they are all interested in teaching and good with it. The one quality that would have lighted it up as if they put in more effort to create an environment of learning and not provide just exam-centred structures. They are qualified teachers although these few years a lack of professors has made our college allow assistant professors to take up classes which is not the most amazing experience.

Banaras Hindu University - [BHU]: 67 answered questions

Ques
What is the hostel fee at BHU including mess charge and everything?

● Top Answer By Payal Gupta on 16 Feb 23

Ans
Firstly, the hostel fees at BHU vary from course to course. So all I can do is give you a rough estimate through the information I got from my sister who pursued B.Sc from BHU. Hostel Fees 1st semester stood: INR 2666 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th semester: INR 1290 (regular fee and hostel fee both) 3rd, 5th, and 7th: INR 3190 (regular fee and hostel fee) Mess Charges:  INR 40 for a simple diet INR 60 for special INR 80 for chicken Usually, there are 2 diets a day and on Sundays, there is only one diet. But the Sunday meal is special so it is counted as a double diet. So the approximate price stands at INR 80-100 per day. If you skip the meal or go home then you can tell Mess Maharaj and you won’t be charged.

Ques
Which is better BHU or DU?

● Top Answer By Anumita Sinha on 13 May 22

Ans
To say, one of these is better than the other will be an oversimplification. You should choose BHU or DU based on the course you are interested in. Here is a streamwise comparison of DU and BHU.  Arts - For English and Economics, DU is better. BHU courses are better for Sanskrit, Hindi, Geography, and Philosophy. For the rest of these subjects, these institutes are at a similar level.  Science - BHU is slightly ahead for most of the science stream.  Commerce - For commerce courses, DU is definitely better.  Engineering - It won’t be fair to compare IIT BHU with DU. The former is way ahead of the latter.  Management - FMS is a tier 1 B-School and arguably the best non-IIM school in the country. IMS BHU ranks nowhere near FMS.  Law - For law degrees, DU has a slight advantage because of its location.  Medical - IMS BHU is one of the best medical institutes in the country.  Academics are more or less the same at BHU and DU. However, big names like St. Stephens, SRCC, LSR, etc. are a little ahead of BHU in terms of teaching quality. BHU offers better research facilities, especially for science courses. DU is way ahead of BHU in terms of corporate jobs and civil services.  BHU offers a better campus experience compared to DU. But if we talk about location, choosing a metropolitan city, that too Delhi will be more advantageous. You will have greater exposure and opportunities.  If you are getting into one of the top colleges at DU. You should go for it. If you are getting an average college, it’s still better to prefer DU for Commerce, Economics and English. BHU science faculty is good. If you are interested in a Science degree, you can choose BHU.

Hows the hostel life at BHU?

● Top Answer By Ashok Sinha on 19 Jul 22

Ans
BHU offers an enviable hostel life. The hostels are within walking distance from class, library, hospital, playground, gym, and pool. There are 24*7 WiFi facilities available on campus. BHU hostel fees are nominal. Students are required to pay around INR 4500 per year.  Many events and festivals are celebrated in the hostel. What makes the BHU hostel experience more special is the people. You will get to share your experience with people from different social backgrounds. Memories of arranging events together, the adrenaline rush of the night before examination, 2 am walks on the campus, you will get to make many such unforgettable memories.

How is the life at BHU?

● Top Answer By Sumit Chetri on 29 Aug 22

Ans
BHU offers a vibrant campus life. Many cultural events and extra-curricular activities take place around the academic year. You will hardly find a day without any such activities happening on campus.  The campus is huge and lush green. BHU offers excellent facilities to students such as the university library, many cafeterias, various clubs, etc. Food offered at the mess is average. IIT offers better food in comparison. Bus services are available for students. Having a personal bi-cycle, scooter, or bike will be helpful, in commuting.  The academics offered by BHU are good and the professors are helpful. The examinations are easy in general but you will have to put in extra effort, to secure good placements.

Ques
What is the future scope of doing a B.Sc. in agriculture from Banaras Hindu University (BHU)?

● Top Answer By Vedika Pandey on 15 Nov 22

Ans
Banaras Hindu University is a prestigious agricultural sciences institution. The institute has made numerous contributions to Indian agriculture and has numerous scientific accomplishments. Agriculture is a vast area in India, and there is a need for major breakthroughs to increase crop production, not just rice and wheat production, and food security. After graduating from this institution, you will have many opportunities to pursue your interests. ICAR-JRF - If you want to pursue further education, you can take the JRF exam in the subject of your choice. IARI is a dream institution, and only the best students are admitted. Every year, many BHU students attend IARI for M.Sc Ag in various fields and other agricultural universities. BHU Postgraduate BHU students are given reserved seating. Admission to BHU M.Sc Ag is no longer easy. Internal quota seats are available to BHU students. MBA Master's in Business is another route that students can take. There is a good environment for MBA preparation here, and many students get into prestigious institutes like IIM-Ahmadabad, IRMA, TISS, NIBM NAARM, and many more. BANKING Every year, IBPS invites applications for Agriculture officers. In recent years, there has been a trend in BHU to prepare for IBPS exams, with approximately half of a batch going into the banking sector. Many students also study for the FCI, NABARD, and State PCS (for District Agriculture Officer) exams.  PLACEMENT Many private firms, dairy companies, private banks, non-governmental organizations, and seed and fertilizer industries offer graduates lucrative packages. Ans
Here are some preparation tips for BHU B.Com entrance examination.  Revise the 11th and 12th subjects thoroughly.  Practice MCQ questions and go through the previous years’ questions.  Practice basic Maths (up to 10th). The entrance examination will have 15 mathematics questions.  You can refer to BHU B.Com preparation book by Arihant.  The entrance will have questions about current affairs as well. So, stay updated about the current happenings.  It’s not possible to estimate how many questions you need to answer correctly or how many marks you will need to get a shortlist.
