Although BHU has the best faculty and management, many students tend to leave BHU after a few days. They feel isolated and homesick. Also, the teachers have a lot of political influence. The administration does not let you take a stand for yourself. A lot of inter students riots take place here.

Also, BHU has a sustaining hierarchy and preferential treatment that seeps down to the education part as well. Ex-students become professors without external exposure. So they bring much lesser value in terms of ethics, fair marking, and admission system.

I think these are some minor reasons why students keep leaving BHU after admission.

Firstly, the hostel fees at BHU vary from course to course. So all I can do is give you a rough estimate through the information I got from my sister who pursued B.Sc from BHU.

Hostel Fees

  • 1st semester stood: INR 2666
  • 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th semester: INR 1290 (regular fee and hostel fee both)
  • 3rd, 5th, and 7th: INR 3190 (regular fee and hostel fee)

Mess Charges:

  • INR 40 for a simple diet
  • INR 60 for special
  • INR 80 for chicken

Usually, there are 2 diets a day and on Sundays, there is only one diet. But the Sunday meal is special so it is counted as a double diet. So the approximate price stands at INR 80-100 per day.

If you skip the meal or go home then you can tell Mess Maharaj and you won’t be charged.

There are 2 types of seats in BHU:

  • Regular seats

  • Paid seats

For the regular seats you need to pay minimal fees.

For the paid seats, you have to pay an additional fee apart from the regular fee.

If your rank is near the cutoff, then BHU offers paid seats to give you a second chance provided that you pay an additional fee. There are around 10% paid seats in every faculty.

You have to apply separately at the time of counseling. Attend the counseling session to fill in your choice of combination. If your name appears in the list of 10% of students you can get admitted to the university after paying the fees and additional amount.

This amount gets revised every year. Visit the university’s official website for more information.

The BSc (Maths) entrance exam is BHU is one of the easiest exams. You can score fairly good marks by just going through your 12th-grade Maths, Physics, and Chemistry books. Study Chemistry from NCERT book. A thorough study of the following chapters will get you good marks:

  • Biomolecule

  • Polymer

  • Animes

  • Chemistry in everyday life

The questions in the entrance exam are mostly based on direct concepts or formulas.

As far as the number of marks necessary is concerned, there is no fixed digit. But at least attempt 70 questions without mistakes. This means you need to score at least 210 marks out of 450. However, this number keeps changing based on the pattern of the question paper.

BHU and AMU are sister concerns. Both institutes carry forward the same legacy so I don’t think they are comparable.

People usually want to believe that these biased universities will divide Hindus and Muslims and worsen their relations. But that’s not the case.

Both universities are loyal to their cause- Education.

As an AMU student, my sister loves her university. She has never visited BHU but she is sure BHU students love their university equally as well.

So I don’t think the two universities stand a chance of comparison when they both are equally good.

To say, one of these is better than the other will be an oversimplification. You should choose BHU or DU based on the course you are interested in. Here is a streamwise comparison of DU and BHU.

Arts - For English and Economics, DU is better. BHU courses are better for Sanskrit, Hindi, Geography, and Philosophy. For the rest of these subjects, these institutes are at a similar level.

Science - BHU is slightly ahead for most of the science stream.

Commerce - For commerce courses, DU is definitely better.

Engineering - It won’t be fair to compare IIT BHU with DU. The former is way ahead of the latter.

Management - FMS is a tier 1 B-School and arguably the best non-IIM school in the country. IMS BHU ranks nowhere near FMS.

Law - For law degrees, DU has a slight advantage because of its location.

Medical - IMS BHU is one of the best medical institutes in the country.

Academics are more or less the same at BHU and DU. However, big names like St. Stephens, SRCC, LSR, etc. are a little ahead of BHU in terms of teaching quality. BHU offers better research facilities, especially for science courses. DU is way ahead of BHU in terms of corporate jobs and civil services.

BHU offers a better campus experience compared to DU. But if we talk about location, choosing a metropolitan city, Delhi will be more advantageous. You will have greater exposure and opportunities

The video comprises a comparative analysis of both universities

If you are getting into one of the top colleges at DU. You should go for it. If you are getting an average college, it’s still better to prefer DU for Commerce, Economics and English. BHU science faculty is good. If you are interested in a Science degree, you can choose BHU.

Banaras Hindu University or BHU is not just better but it’s the best for UPSC preparation. There are many examples of students passing the UPSC exam from this university. One such example is Sachin Kumar. He was a student of MA (Political Science) and managed to top the CAPF exam without any extra tuition. His delegation combined with the university’s quality education helped him climb the ladder.

I have mentioned some pros of the university to explain why you should go for BHU:

  • Hostels- The best thing about BHU has to be its amazing hostels with great facilities and surrounded with lush green beauty. The ambiance is perfect for the preparation of any kind of exam. The AND hostel is one of the best. The hostels are extremely affordable around INR 80 per month.

  • Facilities- Every resident of the hostel can easily access the classes, food, playground, gym, pool, and other facilities. Free Wi-Fi facility is also available 24/7.

  • Social activities- The hostels at BHU celebrate all the festivals which bring together students from different communities. This helps develop an emotional bond and makes hostel life memorable.

All in all, BHU is the right choice for UPSC preparation. You will not regret your decision.

BHU offers a vibrant campus life. Many cultural events and extra-curricular activities take place around the academic year. You will hardly find a day without any such activities happening on campus.

The campus is huge and lush green. BHU offers excellent facilities to students such as the university library, many cafeterias, various clubs, etc. Food offered at the mess is average. IIT offers better food in comparison. Bus services are available for students. Having a personal bi-cycle, scooter, or bike will be helpful, in commuting.

The academics offered by BHU are good and the professors are helpful. The examinations are easy in general but you will have to put in extra effort, to secure good placements.
