Ques

Is it that valuable doing the MBA from IIT Delhi as compared to IIM Shillong?

● Top Answer By Sushmita Gupta on 06 Apr 23

Ans
I will do a brief comparison between the MBA programs of the 2 institutes based on common parameters and leave the final call for you to make  Brand value: IIT Delhi enjoys international recognition while IIM Shillong offers the much coveted IIM tag. However, being a new IIM, its tag does not hold much value in comparison to IIT Delhi's tag. Fees: The MBA program offered at IIM Shillong costs a whooping ?14.6 Lakhs while that at IIT Delhi costs around INR 10.4 Lakhs saving you a few Lakhs. Location: Due to its central location, IIT Delhi offers much more opportunities in terms of exposure and placements. Located near the IT hub Gurgaon, it attracts many startups that come with internship offers. IIM on the other hand is located in the North Eastern part of India and lacks the necessary industrial touch. Infrastructure: IIT Delhi is one of the oldest IITs lacks in terms of infrastructure when compared to the newly built IIM Shillong which has a dreamy campus. Top sectors: IIT Delhi is well known for its specialization in IT/Consulting, and Operation whereas IIM Shillong’s top sectors are Sales & Marketing, Finance, and Consulting. Now weigh the pros and cons of both and make a wise decision based on the same.

Ques

Is IIM Shillong a tier 1 B-school?

● Top Answer By Aakriti Ahuja on 27 Jan 23

Ans
IIM Shillong was established in 2007 as the 7th Indian Institute of Management, located in the North-East region of India. The programs offered at this institute include postgraduate diplomas, executive diplomas, and doctoral programs. The admission process at IIM Shillong is similar to other IIMs, with applicants being evaluated based on their scores on exams such as the CAT, GMAT, GATE, and GRE. Candidates for doctoral programs are also shortlisted based on their performance in the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Tier 1 MBA colleges in India are among the highest-ranked management institutes in the country, and many of their students secure positions at top companies. These colleges are highly competitive and have a strong brand value, which can be beneficial for students as they begin their careers. Although IIM Shillong is considered a tier 1 b-school, it does not rank among the top 10 in India. The top 10 tier 1 MBA colleges in India typically include IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, FMS Delhi, XLRI, IIM Kozhikode, SP Jain, Jamnalal Bajaj, and IIM Indore. Some people may also consider the Indian School of Business (ISB) to be a top tier 1 MBA college due to its one-year program.

Which is the best institute for an MBA, IIM Shillong, MDI Gurgaon or NITIE Mumbai?

● Top Answer By Anupama Chowdhury on 18 Aug 22

Ans
Among these, NITIE Mumbai is the best institute for an MBA. It is considered the Mecca of Operations and SCM. The Ops and SCM job profiles offered at NITIE Mumbai placements are even better than the ones offered from these sectors at IIM ABCL. The final placement record for 2022 showed the average CTC is INR 24.51 LPA. Highest CTC offered this year was INR 49 LPA.   Locational benefits, a huge alumni base, and a stellar placement record are some of the other factors that work in favor of NITIE.

Ques

How is the summer placement scenario at IIM Shillong for the 2019-2020 batch? Is IIM Shillong able to place the entire batch?

● Top Answer By Sarthak Diwan on 15 Mar 21

Ans
IIM Shillong placement cell is not very helpful. The placement records shown are edited. Students do not get a return of what they had paid for. The placement committee is responsible for conducting a well-organized placement drive. The committee tells all the recruiting companies that they have got the first slot. Students are also forced to carry out this lie.  According to the official website, the summer placement highlights for 2021 are as follows.  The highest CTC offered this year was around 3 lakhs. While the average CTC offered was around 1.31 lakhs. The average CTC has witnessed a 17% jump from last year.  The average stipend received by the top 20% and top 50% of the batch was 2.36 LPA and 1.67 LPA respectively. A total of 68 recruiters participated in the campus drive spanning across different domains.  Sales and Marketing remained the most sought-after domain, with 33% placement offers. Consulting & Strategy (24%) and Finance (17%) were the following domains.  Aditya Birla Group, AB InBev, Cognizant, Emami Group, Goldman Sachs, Google, ICICI Bank were among the regular recruiters. IBM, Brain Capacity Network, Deloitte India, Pepsico are some of the first-time recruiters that participated in the 2021 summer placements. This summer placement witnessed a 100% increase in the number of offers made in General Management.  The placement record of IIM Shillong is expected to be transparent to students in the future so that they can make the right decision.

Ques

How good is IIM Shillong as compared to IIFT Delhi?

● Top Answer By Arshit Jain on 27 Jan 23

Ans
It is true that IIFT Delhi has a strong reputation and a good placement record. Over the past three years, students have consistently earned an average salary package of INR 20 LPA or higher. In the latest placement drive for the 2020-22 batch of the MBA (IB) program, IIFT Delhi achieved 100% placements with 82 companies participating. The highest international CTC was INR 80 LPA, the highest domestic CTC was INR 46.5 LPA, and the average CTC was INR 25.16 LPA. Approximately 25% of the students were placed in the consulting domain. When choosing a business school, it's important to consider factors such as placements, alumni support, exposure to the industry, and available resources like libraries and research papers. Location can also be a factor, as being in Delhi may provide more opportunities for exploration and connection with potential employers compared to Shillong. Ultimately, it's important to weigh all of these factors and choose the school that best meets your needs and goals.

Ques

What is the comparison between IIFT & IIM Shillong?

● Top Answer By Tanuj Chandra on 30 Jan 23

Ans
It is worth noting that the brand value of "IIM" may vary among the different institutes. IIM Ahmedabad may have a different brand perception than IIM Lucknow, which may differ from IIM Kozhikode, and so on. With plans to establish an IIM in every state, getting admitted to one may not necessarily hold as much weight as it once did. Older business schools may have more opportunities available to their students due to their more extensive alumni networks and long history of the establishment. Additionally, business schools located in metropolitan areas may have better access to recruiters, leading to potentially better job placements for their students. Ultimately, it is up to you to consider these factors and make the final decision that best suits your needs and goals.
