It is true that IIFT Delhi has a strong reputation and a good placement record. Over the past three years, students have consistently earned an average salary package of INR 20 LPA or higher. In the latest placement drive for the 2020-22 batch of the MBA (IB) program, IIFT Delhi achieved 100% placements with 82 companies participating. The highest international CTC was INR 80 LPA, the highest domestic CTC was INR 46.5 LPA, and the average CTC was INR 25.16 LPA. Approximately 25% of the students were placed in the consulting domain.

When choosing a business school, it's important to consider factors such as placements, alumni support, exposure to the industry, and available resources like libraries and research papers. Location can also be a factor, as being in Delhi may provide more opportunities for exploration and connection with potential employers compared to Shillong. Ultimately, it's important to weigh all of these factors and choose the school that best meets your needs and goals.

IIM Shillong is a new IIM while IIFT Delhi started in 1963 and has produced many notable alumni. So, it would be unfair to compare these two institutes. IIFT Delhi will always have a better brand value than any new IIM.

IIFT Delhi:

  • In terms of pedagogy, IIFT Delhi majorly focuses on foreign trade, and the compulsory subjects are also related to international trade and commerce. There is also a mandatory port visit for the course.
  • Of course, during the second year, you can opt for electives based on traditional specializations such as finance, marketing, etc.

Ultimately, IIFT Delhi remains a very good institute for learning more about international trade.

IIM Shillong:

  • IIM Shillong, on the other hand, is a more traditional business school and you can take up any specialization as your major or minor based on your interests.
  • The institute also offers a plethora of corporate competitions all-round the year which will help to improve your CV.
  • Although it is a fairly new institute, compared to old IIMs and other reputed B-Schools like FMS, IIFT-Delhi, etc. placement wise it is doing quite well.

It is important for every aspirant to weigh up his/her own parameters and make a sound decision about their career. So, choose the institute that meets your expectations.
