Having friends who studied Chemical Engineering from NIT Srinagar, I can assure that it is really good.
Categories | Chemical Engineering at NIT Srinagar |
Course Fee | 5.30 lakh |
Highest CTC | 16-22 LPA |
Average CTC | 9.5 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Vedanta, Hindustan Unilever, TCS, IBM, etc. |
Also, in terms of participating in any extracurricular activities to the academics, everything that NIT Srinagar would offer would prove to be extremely fruitful to you. And eventually, the point where you would stop and stabilize yourself would entirely depend upon how wisely you had utilized the four years of your life there.
Your question is about the placement scenario for the students of ECE background. One of my friends studied ECE at NIT Srinagar, and here’s what he has to say about it.
Students who are from ECE or CSE end up getting placed well as the companies that show up are quite reputed. The students from ECE can get placed at a CSE-oriented company too.
The faculty is not up to the mark with only a handful of professors who are well experienced. Other faculty members are temporary. Your performance will depend on how hard-working and attentive you are.
Categories | ECE at NIT Srinagar |
Course Fee | 5.30 lakh |
Highest CTC | 8-10 LPA |
Average CTC | 6.86 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Microsoft, ONGC, Samsung, NTPC, Wipro, Zomato, Indian Oil, JCB, etc. |
You can expect a set of new and better faculty to show up who would be much more experienced than the ones that pre-exist.
Considering the general opinion, IIM Jammu is way safer than NIT Srinagar. Some reasons that support this opinion are
On the other hand, NIT Srinagar
The only drawback of IIM Jammu is that it just has a temporary campus whereas NIT Srinagar has been established for years.
One of my friends studied at NIT Srinagar. According to him it is really good if you are from an IT background. The placements are better also. But metallurgy might not be as popular as the IT branches.
The placements are not good in the metallurgy engineering branch as it is the same case for other colleges as well. But, this doesn’t end here, as many toppers who crack the GATE are from metallurgy engineering.
As you will get a lot of free time to prepare for other exams like GATE, CAT, UPSC, etc. Moreover, the other reasons for under placements for metallurgy engineering is the inflation in Steel sectors and many others which doesn’t let the companies visit the campus.
Categories | Metallurgy at NIT Srinagar |
Course Fee | 5.30 lakh |
Highest CTC | 11 LPA |
Average CTC | 6 LPA |
Lowest CTC | 5 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Vedanta JSW, SAIL, IOCL, etc. |
The placement for metallurgy engineering in NIT Srinagar is average. So choose according to your personal requirements and preferences. You can opt for it if you are really passionate about metallurgy.
NIT Srinagar is good and if it is discussed in the North East, it is the most excellent. The infrastructure is quite good and the college administration is focused enough to give proper resources to each of its students for their appropriate development.
The campus is approximately 375 acres, with green lushes all around. Faculty members are also outstanding and friendly. Besides, placement statistics are really rising every year, which is good for this institute.
In the following, a brief overview has been given of these three NITs mentioned in the question.

NIT Srinagar is growing at an excellent pace, and it will reach the top level shortly. It would be a renowned institute in India. Thereby, you need not to take admission in the North East NITs by thinking NIT Srinagar as a bad institute.
Considering this question, the first criteria are always the student’s preferences. According to that, they should choose the colleges, either NIT Srinagar or HBTI Kanpur.
NIT Srinagar is a reputed institute; additionally, HBTU is also an ancient and esteemed institute. The new Vice-Chancellor of the second one is completely dedicated to institutional development, and the institute is developing radically over the past few years.
Besides, if you consider the placement facts, then CSE is just edged that ECE regarding the CTC. But, ECE also has several opportunities in both Government and private sectors. It is also quite close considering the placements facts to CSE because IT companies also allow ECE students to sit in the recruitment process.
In the following, a brief overview has been given considering the placement facts of these two institutes.
Criteria |
NIT Srinagar |
HBTU |
Highest CTC |

Lowest CTC |
5 LPA |
7.18 LPA |
Average CTC |

Another important thing that you may consider is that location is which institute is nearer to your home.
So, it can be concluded that both of these institutes are equally good. One of my friends was a former student of HBTU, so he was quite partial to his institute, as he studied there, so he knew better.
From the year 2018, to get admission to HBTU, the student has to qualify 12th standard board exam from UP, or their parents must belong to the UP domicile.
It is advised you opt for NIT Srinagar as it bears you a tag and reputation which will last with you for a lifetime. So, definitely, I would personally suggest you too to opt for NIT even though LPU is an enormously varied University. Besides, NIT Srinagar has a beautiful campus.
Categories | NIT Srinagar | LPU |
Course Fee | 5.30 lakh | 8.16 lah |
Highest CTC | 11-15 LPA | 25 LPA |
Average CTC | 6-10 LPA | 16 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | TCS, Tech Mahindra, ZS Associates, Wipro, etc. | Accenture, Cognizant, IBM, HCL, etc. |
Though both are good in their respective places. But if you prefer an NIT tag, you can opt for NIT Srinagar. Otherwise choose LPU, if you plan to get placed in a top IT company.
NIT Srinagar is the best option among the ones mentioned in the question. But living in Srinagar is challenging. If you can deal with frequent disruption and non-functionality of the institute then you can choose NIT Srinagar.
Nirma University can be a good alternative too. It is one of the best engineering colleges in Gujarat as well as India. As it is located on the Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad highway, many reputed MNCs visit the campus. Nirma has a 120-acre campus. It offers good infrastructure. Their placement record is also quite impressive. Almost 90% of students get placed in reputed companies. The only disadvantage of choosing Nirma is that they don’t offer a hostel.
In North-East, you can go with Agartala or Silchar.
A close friend of mine studied at NIT Srinagar. He had completed his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering. Here presenting some information shared by him about placements and packages.
The placement stats of NIT Srinagar is not constant as the figures tend to change each year. And this happens essentially because of a lot of external factors like - the circumstances in Kashmir, faculty, and even the infrastructure.
There are some bitter things you have to acknowledge when it comes to NIT Srinagar, especially for the placement scenario of its Chemical Engineering department.
Core companies:
Non-core companies:
Speaking about the Chemical Engineering department, there are around 9-10% of students who manage to grab a job for themselves once they have completed their B.Tech degree. What eventually is left for the rest of the students at Chemical Engineering at NIT Srinagar is to crack the GATE examination.
Generally, the only competitors of NITs will be IITs or other NITs. However, NIT Srinagar is not the most reputed NIT & IET Lucknow is a worthy competitor. Both of these are great colleges to pursue a course in CSE.
Admission & Eligibility:
Admission to NIT Srinagar is through JEE main. Eligibility is a pass with a minimum of 75% marks in 10+2 exams with maths, physics & chemistry.
Admission to IET Lucknow is through UPSEE. Eligibility is a pass in 10+2 exams with maths, physics & chemistry.
Fee Structure:
The first-year fee at NIT Srinagar amounts to INR 1.36 lakhs in total and the total fee for 4 years amounts to INR 5.46 lakhs. Hostel fees are extra.
The total first-year fee that includes tuition, exam fees, and other fees amount to INR 89,775 at IET Lucknow. The total fee for 4 years comes at INR 3.44 lakhs.
Infrastructure:
IET Lucknow has a fully equipped and air-conditioned computer centre with high-speed internet. Other facilities include separate hostels for girls and boys, a gym, a medical facility, and a bank inside the campus.
NIT Srinagar, apart from being a scenic place, also has very good infrastructure for CSE students. Other facilities include separate hostels for girls and boys, a sports centre, and a healthcare facility inside the campus.
Placement:
IET Lucknow:
More than 70 companies visited IET Lucknow this year to offer placement to students.
The highest number of students that got placed was from the CSE department.
IET Lucknow students get campus placement opportunities from Adobe, TCS, India Bulls, LAVA, Syntel, Anglo-Eastern, Global Logic, Zia Semiconductor
The highest CTC package offered was to a CSE student by Byju’s (INR 14 LPA).
The average CTC offered this year was around INR 7 LPA.
NIT Srinagar:
NIT Srinagar CSE students usually receive almost 100% placement.
Major IT companies visit the campus every year to recruit top CSE student talents.
Some of the famous recruiters are Wipro, Infosys, Amazon, Oracle, Capgemini, Oxigen, Pinnacle, HP, etc.
The average annual CTC offered is around INR 9 LPA.
The highest CTC offered was around INR 17 LPA.
The infrastructure and placement rates are very good at either of these colleges. The fees are slightly higher in NIT Srinagar. But the final decision must be taken according to the interest of the student.
