Course Description

IIT Guwahati BTech Admissions 2023 are over. JoSAA has released the round 1 – 6 cutoff for IIT Guwahati. The BTech CSE Cutoff 2023 for IIT Guwahati remained 398 – 654 for General Category. IIT Guwahati offers Btech as its flagship program where admissions are granted as per JEE Advanced score followed by JoSAA counselling. JoSAA releases 6 round of seat allotment for admission to IIT Guwahati. Check JEE Advanced 2024 Preparation Strategy

JEE Main registrations are expected to start from November 2023 and the exam will be conducted in 2 sessions. Candidates having a valid JEE Main score need to register for JEE Advanced, where registration will commence in April 2024.

IIT Guwahati BTech Eligibility Criteria

Applicant must fulfill the following criteria to get admission:

Qualifying exam which is JEE Advanced is to be qualified with at least announced cut-off marks
Must have completed JoSAA(Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
At least 75% marks in PCM.

IIT Guwahati BTech Admission Guidelines

IIT Guwahati being one of the best engineering colleges in India offers admissions on the basis of JEE Mains and Advanced ranking. To get admission to IITG one must appear for JoSAA counseling.

How to Apply?

Register yourself for JoSAA counseling online once you have qualified for JEE Mains or/and JEE Advanced.
Fill in your choices of a college. The applicant will be provided a period of 10 days to lock their choices.
JoSAA conducts a Mock seat allotment process to provide a basic idea of colleges to the student. So applicants may change their choices on the basis of mock seat allotment.
JoSAA allows the seat after choice locking and applicants may accept, reappear in the next round or reject the allotted seat as per their requirement.
After acceptance of seats, the applicant should download a provisional seat allotment letter and pay the Seat Acceptance fee which is around 35000 INR (15000 INR for reserved category).
Lastly, report to reporting centers for document verification.
The applicant has to finally visit the allotted institute for confirmation.

IIT Guwahati BTech Data Science Course Details

IIT Guwahati has introduced an all-new program named BTech in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. Interested students need to clear the JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced to get admission into the course. The counseling of the seats will be done as per the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) norms. Admission will be offered on the basis of JEE Advanced Rank and JoSAA counseling.

Ques.Can a Candidate change my branch after admission to the IIT Guwahati BTech program?

Ans.Although students are not allowed to change branches, the institute can permit this in special cases. The student should have completed the first two semesters with the required credit. Eligible students will be asked to apply through a form issued by the institute. The change of branch will be done on a merit basis calculated based on the CPI at the end of the second semester.

The rooms are NOT air-conditioned. The toilets and bathrooms are shared (3 of each for every 10 rooms on average). Every hostel has its own history and unique facilities, but all of them have the basics i.e. a mess, a canteen, a juice center, a stationary shop, a library, a TV room, a sports room (for indoor sports), and laundry facilities.

Both IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur are well-respected institutions, known for their high-quality education and research. Comparing the two is already justified and saying that one institution is becoming the next of the other is more so. Both institutions have their strengths and areas of expertise. Yet, if I was to choose one I would have always gone for IIT Kanpur. Some points that favor my preference are as follows: The quality of coursework at IIT Kanpur is extremely challenging and will keep you on your toes always. It offers the best quality of education and you will learn much more than other IITs if you are regular to classes and take your academics seriously, The usual schedule of a student at IIT Kanpur is not always jammed, unlike the general opinion. The timings of the clubs align with the classes and you can take out time for both if you are good at managing your time well. Another challenging aspect of IIT Kanpur is its tough grading system, (10,8,6,4..) under which anything below 10 is 8. Thus you are under tremendous pressure to maintain your CGPA and is enough of a motivating factor. Overall, even if Guwahati was to be compared to IIT Kanpur, it still has a long way to go until it becomes the next IIT Kanpur.

CSE at IIIT Hyderabad is so far the best possible program one can aspire for in India in the software industry. It’s better than IIT-B CSE and hence, far better than BITS Pilani or IITG CSE. IIIT Hyderabad IIIT Hyderabad has initiated a dedicated software inclined course structure right from the first year. It is a course highly inclined towards academics. The institute completely focuses on preparing software experts called CODERS. It has highly active coding clubs, excellent coding culture, and the highest average package among the above-mentioned colleges. However, it lacks a lot in the overall development due to the poor campus life. You have to leave your campus life behind if you are willing to be extremely academic. BITS Pilani It has a great course structure along with great campus life. You will be very happy with the coding culture over there. The institute enjoys years of alumni outreach. 0% attendance can sometimes put forward a very lenient attitude of your and might even affect the coming phases of your life. IITG MnC This branch offers a BTech degree and has a course with 45-50% Maths, 45% CS and some finance courses. The campus life in IITG is definitely amazing and the weather is pleasant. However, the coding culture is lacking as compared to the other two. The location and young alumni network is a major factor you should consider. Considering all pointers mentioned above, it is clear that CSE at IIIT Hyderabad will be a best suited option for you.

While IIIT Hyderabad excels in academics, it may not provide the same level of student life experience as an IIT. When deciding between colleges, it is important to consider all aspects of the institution, not just academics. For example, BITS Pilani is an excellent college in all aspects, but if you have the option of getting into an older IIT such as IIT Guwahati, it may be a better choice for you. Similarly, when choosing between BHU and IIT Guwahati, it is advisable to choose IIT Guwahati. Most candidates would certainly choose IIT Guwahati over NIT Surathkal for an M.Tech program. Assuming you are studying M.Tech to learn, not to get a job then you should definitely prefer IIT Guwahati over NIT Surathkal. If you want a job, there are several more ways to do that. If you are skilled enough to get admission at IIT Guwahati then you can have a decent job in hand in the future.
