Remarks :

For admission to UG programs, one needs to qualify for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced examinations. The application form for JEE Advanced examination is available on the official website of JEE Advanced with specific deadlines for registration and fee payment. The exam dates are January and April for JEE Mains, and May or June for JEE Advanced with results announced in June. After the result declaration, one has to sit in the JOSAA Counselling process to get a seat in IIT / NIT based on his rank in JEE. The reservation benefits can be applied at the time of filling out registration forms. Also, seats are reserved for female students. You need to submit the category certificate along with other documents. JEE advanced is India's toughest exam. It mainly focuses on testing the deep understanding of students in a topic. The reservation policies must be improved, like giving reservations based on income and assets, instead of category.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum at IIT Bombay is well structured to provide a comprehensive and relevant education. I chose Mechanical engineering at IIT Bombay because when I saw the course curriculum, It laid in my field of interest. Also, Mechanical engineering at IIT Bombay is considered the best in India. Also, IIT Bombay offers interdisciplinary courses. Students are free to choose the course in their interest from a large basket of courses. The course curriculum is best for now, It was just updated last year. Teaching methods are also best. There are special classes run by seniors before exams for those students who have backlogs. The frequency of exams is also not so high. We have midsem and endsem exams along with quizzes in alternate weeks. It feels hectic sometimes but also good as it helps us to complete the course in breaks.

Internships Opportunities :

IIT Bombay offers a range of internship opportunities through various companies. Large companies like Bain and Company, LEK Consulting, McKinsey, Boston consulting group, amazon, flipkart, google, microsoft, quadeye, jane street, P&G, etc recruit interns from IIT Bombay. For CSE Department people, the companies like Jane Street offers stipend of around INR 16 Lakhs or more, depending upon the skill of student. average stipend is around 1-1.5 lakhs. Students have to work on a project under the guidance of project lead in their tenure. Based on the work, companies also offer pre-placement offers. This year around 300 PPOs were offered, out of which 194 were accepted by the students. These are mainly in the sectors like IoT, AI , ML, R&D and cinsulting.

Placement Experience :

Placements at IIT Bombay are really good because of the reputation of college in Industries and strong connections. Students are elgible to sit in campus placements in their last year i.e, 4th year and should not have any back in any course. Around 400 companies visit IIT Bombay for recruitment process with total of around 1700 placement offers in phase 1. Companies like Quadeye, Apple, McKinsey, Jane street, amazon, microsoft, Google, P&G, TATA, Jaguar, Morgan stanly, Bain & Company, Boston Consulting group, etc. Average package offered is around 23.26 LPA, highest package being INR 3.67 CPA. Placements are offered invarious profiles like IT, core research and engineering, finance, consulting, marketing, product management, etc. Approximately, around 80% of students got placed. My plan after graduation is to get placed in management, business, or finance sector.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I have paid 1.6 lacs in first semester and 1.4 lacs in second semester. and 1.42 lacs for my 3rd semester. I have no idea of future fees. But it will be somewhat around 1.5 lacs each semester. Let me break the fee in parts - 1. Tution fee = 100000 2. Admission fee = 2700 3. Examination fee = 1200 4. Gymkhana/ Sports fee = 2100 5. ID card fee = 650 6. Institute student security deposit = 3000 7. Library fee = 3000 8. registration fee = 900 9. Accident insurance = 250 10. Student welfare fund = 1200 and there are lot of small fee for different different things. For categories like SC/ST the tution fee is 0 and all other fee are same. The scholarships offered here are Institute merit-cum means, Free messing facilities(SC/ST and some family income limit), Remission of fees, government scholarships, etc. All those are given to those whose family income is less than a desired amount. All of them can be seen on IIT Bombay website.

Campus Life :

Overall campus life is very good. Best environment. Techfest, Mood Indigo, E Summit, Aahvan are some of the major fests of IIT Bombay. All of them are solely done by students of IIT Bombay. Techfest and Mood Indigo happen in the month of december during semester breaks. E Summit is hosted in February, Aahvan, the sports fest will be held in the month of May from 2024 onwards as per DEAN Instructions. IIT Bombay Library has almost all the important books which are suggested. It has large range of books available from different different authors. The classrooms are modern. Some of them follow western culture. These are fully air conditioned, free WiFi, Smart Boards, Charging ports on each and every desk. There is also a Shiru startup cafe, which gives free drinks during class hours to IIT B students. Sports facilities are best, with almost all the sports. There is also olympic size swimming pool. Best class sport facilities with best coaches for each. Abhyuday is the student run social

Hostel Facilities :

Some of the hostels are really good and some old hostels are bad. Hostel rooms have two beds, chair, study table, almirrah, fans, no AC. There is also washing machine and dryer on every floor. Mess food is average. They serve food 4 times a day and menu keeps changing every day and every week. They offer fruits, eggs, milk, bread and other things also. Hostel Registration is done along with academin registration only. Hostels here are affordable as compared to of campus house rent. Hostel fee is around 17000 per semester and 22500 per semeter for mess. These are close to classrooms and sports complex.

Faculty :

There are Teaching assistants(TA) for every course, who are the first point of contact between students and Professor. There are sufficient numbers of TAs for a course, which reduces the student problems regarding the course. The ratio is around 10 students per TA. In some courses, there is a TA for every group of around 5-7 people. This low ratio allows for more personalised attention and ensures that students can engage closely with the instructor, leading to more interactive and supportive learning environment. The faculty members over here are highly qualified. All of them are those who have been doing research in their topic from a long time. Also they keep updating their teaching methods regularly, based on student feedbacks which they take after midsems and endsem exams. Most of the faculty are available daily in their office in some given time slots. It is also possible to meet them in the labs anytime, after sending them a mail for meeting.

Does IIT Bombay tag really matter??

Placement Experience :

The placements here at IIT Bombay are very very good. If a student has really done good or just put some efforts on skill development, he definitely gets placed and in a very good amount. A large number of companies visit for placements like Tata, L&T, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Uber, SONY, Samsung, Mahindra, Reliance, Qualcomm, Bajaj, Jaguar, Loreal, JSW, Hitachi, Mercedes, Havells,P&G, ITC, HUL, ONGC, HP, BYJUS, etc. This year around 1753 offers were made, out of which 1438 were accepted by the students in phase-1. All the information is available on IITB website. The highest package was around INR 4.23 CPA (in quant sector) and an average package of around INR 21.26 LPA. Around 82.1% of students were placed this year. Some students didn't sit for placements because they want to study further in foreign universities, or doing MBA further, or UPSC, etc.
