For being eligible to take admission in IIT Bombay, one has to clear JEE Advanced exam which is considered as the toughest examination in INDIA. It mainly tests the deep understanding of the student in a particular topic. It has two papers, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The application forms are released in the month of April, one is eligible to sit in JEE ADVANCED exam if he/she has cleared JEE mains first. Around 12-13lacs of students sit for JEE MAINS. Out of which 2.5 lacs of students become eligible to sit in JEE ADV. Out of which around 1.8lacs fills the JEE ADV form, and out of which 1.7 lacs of students give both papers. Out of which around 17k students gets seat in IITs. There is resevation for ST/SC/OBC/GEN-EWS/PWD/Female students. The exam is held in the month of may or june and the results are announced in the month of june. After this JOSAA counselling process is there to get admission in diif courses in diff IITs.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Earlier the course curriculum was such that the students could only do their studies in their core branch. But now, the course curriculum is such that the students can take courses in diiferent branches also. Also if somebody wants to pursue a minor degree in any course other than his/her core course then, he may do it. All the stuff taught in class is relevent only. They take us from base to advanced level with its industrials applications. This way the course curriculum is really helpfull and craves the child for real world. The areas of imporvement are like, making the class more interactive instead of making attendance compulsory. as it is not that much helpful. Also there are lot of exams, like, we have quizzes for some course in alternative weeks, and in rest of the weeks we have some projects or assignments to do for some courses. There is no free time. we also have one midsem and one endsem exams.

Internships Opportunities :

Internship opportunities are available for 1st,2nd,3rd year students. 1st year intern is not that much main. Important is 2nd,3rd year intern. 3rd year stipend ranges from 1lakhs/month to 40-50 lakhs/month. large number of companies visit for internships like Dynamic technolgies(stipend = 3000 SGD/month), Apollo global management(1.25lacs INR/month), Qube research and technologies(2.91 lacs INR/month), ITC Limited(2.2 lacs INR/month), HUL( 2.2lacs INR/month), P&G(2.2 lacs INR/month), IMC Trading(5.5lacs INR/month), Microsoft(1.25 lacs INR/month), etc. For getting an intern, one has to first qualify CPI criteria(diff for diff companies), then pass the test, then pass the interview).

Placement Experience :

The placements here at IIT Bombay are very very good. If a student has really done good or just put some efforts on skill development, he definitely gets placed and in a very good amount. A large number of companies visit for placements like Tata, L&T, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Uber, SONY, Samsung, Mahindra, Reliance, Qualcomm, Bajaj, Jaguar, Loreal, JSW, Hitachi, Mercedes, Havells,P&G, ITC, HUL, ONGC, HP, BYJUS, etc. This year around 1753 offers were made, out of which 1438 were accepted by the students in phase-1. All the information is available on IITB website. The highest package was around INR 4.23 CPA (in quant sector) and an average package of around INR 21.26 LPA. Around 82.1% of students were placed this year. Some students didn't sit for placements because they want to study further in foreign universities, or doing MBA further, or UPSC, etc.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The yearwise fee is different every year. For my 1st year I paid around 3,02,200 ( 1,60,700(sem-1) + 1,41,500(sem-2) ). For 3rd semester I paid 143500. The Tuition fee was 1,00,000 per sem out of this for GEN and OBC while it was free for ST/SC category student. A lot of one time fee was also taken like Admission fee(2700), ID Card fee(650), Institute student security deposit(3000), Medical Examination fee(500), Graduation transcript Fee(650), Modernization and Upgadation fee(3050), Provisional Certificate fee(650). Some other fee which are supposed to be paid every semester are Examination fee(1200), Gymkhana(sports) Fee(2100), Library Student security deposit(3000), Student accident insurance fund(250), Student Benevolent fund(650), Students welfare fund(1200). Many Scholorships which run here are Institute merit cum means, Free messing facilities for SC/ST students whose family income is <5lacs, Alumini funded scholarships. All of these have diff criterias which are available eas

Campus Life :

Campus life is really good. Sometimes it becomes bad because some people are really mean and I don't like them. But not all, few are really really helpful and great person. Mood Indigo, Techfest, E-Summit, Aahvan, Advitiya, Alumination, etc are some of the college fests. Besides them, their are lot of other events, like Salsa Night, Insti Night, AIDS, Surbahar, Performing Arts Festival, Sophieprod, and one special event from all the clubs for freshers. The Library has almost all the books whic are referred by the profs and are from diff diff authors for same topic. The reading hall facility is available 24/7 with air conditioned halls. In the classrooms, the vibe is great. It has smart LEDs, ACs, seating cap of around 300 in some classes and 50 in some rooms. There are also Charging ports on each table. WiFi facility is also available every where in the lecture hall. Sports facilities are very very good, with regular provision of balls, better infrastructure, etc from institute.

Hostel Facilities :

There are around 20 hostels in IIT Bombay. Some new hostels are also under construction right now because some of the hostels are very old. For fresher students Hostel-1 and 16 are provided with 2 persons in one room. H16 room sare 1.5 times bigger than H-1 rooms. and rooms to washrooms ratio is good in H-16-A,B wing. Both of them are really good with larger rooms and clean infrastructure. In second and 3rd year, we are alloted parent hostels which are old. In 4th year, we are alloted hostel-17 or 18 and Single rooms. Both of them are the best hostels in the insti. For Girls, H-16-C wing is alloted, in 2nd and 3rd year, Hostel-15 is alloted. In 4th year, Hostel-10 is provided. In the rooms, two tables, 2 chairs, one fan, no AC, two lights, 2 almirrahs are provided. mess food is really good and healthy. Registration of hostel is done with course registration only, and the hostel adn room are already fixed by the administration.

Faculty :

Faculty over there is highly qualified. Some of them are IIT passouts from 90s. Some of them have done PHD from top knotch colleges of world like stanford, MIT, etc. Some of them also haev taught in those top premier institutes. They also have published a large number of books in their topic of reseach. Our entrepreneurship prof have taught a large number of CEOs of top companies. for example, The CEO of OLA Cabs, Bhavish Agarawal is also student of hers. Our ENT prof also hosts guest lectures from them, which is a very nice way to learn from experience of our seniors. The prof to student interaction is improved by Teaching assistant programme, in which each course have certain number of TAs to reduce the student-prof gap. Good thing is this programme is also ideated and executed by the students only. i.e, the students only do all the things to make our institute best.

Is IIT Bombay really as Prestigious as they say? Unpacking the hype.

Placement Experience :

Placements at IIT Bombay are really good because of the reputation of college in Industries and strong connections. Students are elgible to sit in campus placements in their last year i.e, 4th year and should not have any back in any course. Around 400 companies visit IIT Bombay for recruitment process with total of around 1700 placement offers in phase 1. Companies like Quadeye, Apple, McKinsey, Jane street, amazon, microsoft, Google, P&G, TATA, Jaguar, Morgan stanly, Bain & Company, Boston Consulting group, etc. Average package offered is around 23.26 LPA, highest package being INR 3.67 CPA. Placements are offered invarious profiles like IT, core research and engineering, finance, consulting, marketing, product management, etc. Approximately, around 80% of students got placed. My plan after graduation is to get placed in management, business, or finance sector.
