When i qualified the imucet, i had this college as the first preference for a few reasons. The prime one being great placements. Students who don't get placed on campus can visit offices of shipping companies for off campus placement. The location in the Mumbai port trust (harbour lines) facilitates this
I've personally wanted to join merchant Navy, so i choose this course. The University decision to conduct arrear exams mid semester was good too, as it divides the load of the end semester and arrears exams. The syllabus is managed by the headquarters from Chennai, so no comments on that
(This is answered in the last step though) There are lots of on campus placements. The placement officers have links in shipping companies that hire the students on campus. Off campus placements are common too
The fees for odd semester is inr 152500 (including mess, tuition, lab and hostel fees). The one for even semester is 122500. Girls have a fees excuse of a specific amount. Other than that, the college doesn't ask for any extras
Okay this is actually a down side of this college. There is little activity outside academics. I myself am the batch representative for second year in the literary club but haven't had any good opportunities yet. Also the campus director likes to prioritise girls in almost every field (which is a good thing, but he does it in excess). Also there is no playground in the campus. The college has a ground on lease around 300m from the main gate, where most locals come to play too. The wardens might enter the hostel rooms without knocking and without reason. So, the general life in college is not great
The hostel building is good currently. 2-3 students per room. The classrooms are in the same building as the boys hostel. The hostel mess has skilled cooks, but even they reported that the campus director frequently fines them and cuts their salaries. Hostel registration is done with the check in. Hostels are compulsory, and for a reason
The permanent faculty appointed by the headquarters from Chennai are highly qualified and excellent, but the local visiting faculty are mostly non qualified and ignorant. Most don't even belong to the shipping field, which would be advantageous
Placements are offered after graduation. In fourth year , we have to compulsorily spend a semester in internship , which builds a mindset and gives awareness about the corporate system. Companies like Bajaj , Mercedes, TATA , etc
I am a technical student so I have a mind set that I have to go in a technical field only I started my technical career from 11th as choosing a vocational subject in 11th and 12th frequency and timings we come to know a month ago so you have to prepare your self everyday and areas of improvement is that you make technical mund strong
So placements start right from 7 th sem Also they provide coaching endorsements for gre and toefl who plan for abroad studies The percentage of getting placements is also quite good As seen from the previous records
The placements here at IIT Bombay are very very good. If a student has really done good or just put some efforts on skill development, he definitely gets placed and in a very good amount. A large number of companies visit for placements like Tata, L&T, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Uber, SONY, Samsung, Mahindra, Reliance, Qualcomm, Bajaj, Jaguar, Loreal, JSW, Hitachi, Mercedes, Havells,P&G, ITC, HUL, ONGC, HP, BYJUS, etc. This year around 1753 offers were made, out of which 1438 were accepted by the students in phase-1. All the information is available on IITB website. The highest package was around INR 4.23 CPA (in quant sector) and an average package of around INR 21.26 LPA. Around 82.1% of students were placed this year. Some students didn't sit for placements because they want to study further in foreign universities, or doing MBA further, or UPSC, etc.
Campus placement are one of the best in India Our cs average is more then 50 lakhs the average package is almost 23 lacs per annum. Most of the students get placed during the placement. Almost 50 people get PPO.
the college placements are not so well you can barely get 20LPA from the campus but the college offers you 100% placement assistance which may help you get placements off campus by improving your coding skills and programming knowledge . i suggest ypu to give AMCAT exams to appera in companies which offer 20+ lpa packages
The course curriculum in terms of relevance and comprehensive is good though but it hard to get subjects on first time but as we get used to it it becomes easy and frequency and timings of exam js also good
After 6th semester students are eligible for pre-placement and after 7-8 semester most of them get place.About 228 companies visited in our college and 530 students were placed. The highest offer made was 87 lacs and averages placement was 12lacs.For metallurgy it was 20lacs and average was 8.5 lacs.About 76.26% students were placed this year. I will look for good package if i don't get then i will start preparing for gate/gre exam for my master.
