Solutions and Explanation

Approach Solution : 1

The ratio of the marks are 6: 7: 8: 9: 10.
Total Marks = 6x + 7x + 8x + 9x + 10x = 40x.

We are given that 40x = 60% of the total marks
Total Marks = (40x)/0.6 = 200x/3
Total Marks in each subject = (200x/3)/5 = (40x)/3 =
50% of (40x)/3 = (20x)/3 = 6.66x

Therefore 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x are greater than 50% of the marks in each subject

As a result, there are 4 subjects greater than 50% of the marks in each subject.

Correct Answer: (D)

Approach Solution : 1

Let the grades be earned in the following order of the five subjects : 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, and 10x.
Score on average: 60%
(6x+7x+8x+9x+10x)/5 = 60/100
Therefore, 40x/5 = 60/100
X = (60*5)/100*40 = 3/40 = 0.075
Therefore the marks are 0.45, 0.525, 0.6, 0.675 and 0.75 respectively.

As a result, we get 45%, 52.5%, 60%, 67.5% and 75% as the scores consecutively.
Four of the subjects have more than 50% score

Correct Answer: (D)
