Firstly you should decide which stream you want to go with and then look at the colleges for the same.  There are some parameters on which you should especially focus on which include an established brand with great recognition, placement history, and excellent startup culture. According to all these parameters, NIT Trichy is the best place for you. In the recent placement drive, the average CTC offered was 6 LPA.  On the other hand, IIITDM Kancheepuram offers a unique curriculum. It addresses the design and manufacturing issues faced by the industry. At the end of your course, you will be able to converse with the technical experts in your relevant field of study. Although IIITDM Kancheepuram is a new institute and doesn’t have a great placement record yet, it is growing in terms of its reach and brand value.

IIITDM Kancheepuram Mechanical is better in comparison. The department has four branches under the norms of Design and Manufacturing. The academics are practical-oriented. IIITDM follows an updated curriculum that is different from the traditional course structure of most engineering colleges. The Mechanical faculties are great. Most of them have PhDs qualifications from reputed IITs and NITs.  IIITDM Kancheepuram placements are good for Mechanical. Students of the branch get recruited as Project leads, Supervisors,  Design Operators, etc. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 7 LPA.

Keeping in mind the academic environment and placement statistics, the following should be the preferences: CSE at NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Jabalpur, NIT Jalandhar, and IIIT Kancheepuram. ECE at NIT Hamirpur, ECE at NIT Jalandhar, IIIT Kancheepuram, and then IIIT Jabalpur. Choose a college with a broadband internet connection in the hostels for CSE. In general, the faculty at all of these colleges will be mediocre, and you will be forced to rely on the internet for your education. Once the CSE and hostel broadband requirements have been met, consider which college is closer to home, near a city, and not in a country where you do not speak the native language.

IIITDM Kancheepuram is an institute of national importance and it has an advantage over the other two institutes as both the institutes are IIITGs in PPP Mode. The bill to declare PPP mode as institutes of national importance is still pending in parliament.  Here are a few pieces of information about the CSE/IT in the campuses mentioned in the question.  IIIT Guwahati: The institute started in the year 2013 and has a strong CS department with a good number of experienced faculties.  Prof Gautam Barua who is the director of the CS department at IIIT Guwahati was also the director of IIT Guwahati from 2003-13. With his immense experience, he aims to build the department strong.  Coming on to the curriculum of CSE/IT, it is well designed to suit the growing need of the industry. The intent here is to complete all the core subjects in the first 6 semesters so that students can choose the type of industry they want to get into. Like in the 4th semester, there is a subject called Computer Network which is generally a subject of 5/6th semester in other institutes.  In the CS department, IIIT Guwahati has come up with the Ph.D. program as well.  There are many advantages to join IIIT Guwahati but only a single disadvantage is there i.e. Location. But if you love to travel and nature, Guwahati is a place for you.  IIIT Sri City:  The number of faculties at IIIT Sri City is nearly half as compared to IIIT Guwahati.  They also have MS and Ph.D. programs which indicates that they are also very active with regard to research.  They are being mentored by Prof. UB Desai who is also the director of IIT Hyderabad and a pioneer in System and Network Research in India.  Both the colleges have their advantages and disadvantages. You have to analyze which is better for you to pursue B.Tech in CSE/IT as per your parameters. Good luck.

IIIT Allahabad is better. It has a better curriculum and an active coding culture. The CSE and IT syllabus of the institute are designed according to the current industry trends. You will learn through real-time case studies.  IIIT Allahabad placements are excellent. During the 2022 placement drive, the average CTC offered was INR 30.63 LPA. The highest international CTC offered was INR 1.21 CPA. 

My brother has just completed his B.tech from IIITDM Jabalpur and some of my friends also studied at the other two institutes. According to their experience and the NAAC Ranking, IIITDM tops among the three of them. The rating considers everything including infrastructure and facilities. Following are the key points that give IIITDM an edge over the two. Alumni network: IIITDM is the oldest institute having a much larger history and alumni base as compared to IIIT Guwahati, and IIIT Kancheepuram. Whereas the other two institutes might have just 2-3 batches completed. Campus: Knowledge is easily accessible to everyone even you can watch Stanford Lectures from Home. Here also, IIITDM Jabalpur is at advantage. The seniors are very helpful and won’t hesitate to give you a hand. Placements: IIITDM being located in the central part of India, has the advantage of better placements. Even core companies like ISRO and DRDO visit the campus for recruitment. All in all, it is not advisable to rely on the college just for jobs and placements. It is crucial to focus on learning and develop new skills which may come in handy in the future.

IIIT Sri City is turning up to be one of the best emerging colleges in our county. As a native of Sri City, in my experience, you will definitely receive a quality education and it is nothing short of the kind of education offered at IIIT-K. Everything is growing at a rapid rate. Your career will definitely take off here. In order to compare between the two, my suggestion would be to check the website and look at the faculty. From what I know, IIIT Sri City has some really good faculty in terms of their qualifications. You can even compare the placement statistics of the two places. This should definitely give you a clear idea about how good the college and your future prospects by the time you finish your degree. In my opinion, do your research and see which college suits you better.

NIT Puducherry has recently shifted to its permanent campus, although IIITDM’s campus seems better. As for the faculty, again IIITDM has an upper hand but you will have to figure out an approach towards them.  Both the institutes have a fairly comprehensive and challenging curriculum for their students. They are both good placement wise but if you have more than 7.5 CGPA you will be allowed to sit for all the companies in IIITDM. You can see which suits best to your requirements. 

Both IIIT Jabalpur and IIIT Kanchepuram are decent institutes, having their own advantages. The points below give a brief overview of both the institutes that may help you to make a choice between the two. The placement of IIIT Jabalpur is excellent, even somewhat better than that of IIIT Kancheepuram. But, IIIT Kancheepuram offers an excellent environment inside its campus. The placement in IIIT Kancheepuram is also quite good, but due to the presence of a lot of excellent colleges in the city of Chennai and other cities of Tamil Nadu, it could never be as good as that of IIIT Jabalpur. In Jabalpur, there is not much of a competition, IIIT Jabalpur being the only established institute there. Although, both the institute are excellent in their fields and have a high pace of growth in standards, it’s the candidate’s wish to choose one among the two, based on the factors listed above.

One of my friends from high school used to be a student of IIITDM Kanchipuram and in his opinion, ECE at that institute has a far better system of progressing with the course than the NIT system. IIITDM Kanchipuram also boasts of having a superior faculty. IT has also been derived from the ECE. Both hardware and software are involved in ECE. So, if you are more inclined towards Physics and Maths, go for ECE.
