I choose this branch solely based on my rank. The student-faculty ratio is around 1:8 The faculty in my department have high qualifications and great research projects. Some have good teaching skills while others dont. Semester exams happen once 6 month. For us, our first four semesters were of 3 months each due to some laps in authority.

I was always interested in the field of Computer Science and also had the subject in my Higher Secondary. The faculty: student ratio is about 1:90 for theory classes and 1:30 for laboratory classes. The faculty members are highly educated, having PhDs from coveted universities. The term exams are regularly conducted though it ends a little late according to the academic schedule. It is not so difficult to pass but it is rather difficult to score very high marks as the checking is quite strict.

I have taken the Information Technology branch as I was interested in coding domain. The faculty:student ratio is about 1:10. The teachers are very friendly , well qualified and knowledgeable. The teaching style of every teacher is not so good. You will have to study of your own some of the things. There are class tests, sesional disclosive and semester exams , viva for practicals. The semester exams are moderate , you can score a good marks by preparing 15 days prior to examination. But to score above very much marks you have to study hard. The course is very flexible , you will get enough time to explore new things and follow your passion.

Jadavpur University - [JU]: 88 answered questions

Ques
Currently, is IIEST Shibpur, formerly BESU, better than Jadhavpur University?

● Top Answer By Sourav Roy on 20 Mar 21

Ans
IIEST Shibpur offers integrated MTech for engineering streams. So, first, be clear if you want to pursue MTech from an institute that does not have a record of producing post-grads like IITs or other universities abroad.  Comparison: In academics, there is not much difference between JU CS and BESU CS. In fact in the present scenario, JU CS has better placement statisticsas compared to BESU CS.For this reason, sometimes BESU CS/IT graduates join IITs after the completion of their course and often end up in the same firms their fellow JU mates are working in for 2 years.  BESU got updated to the status of IIEST quite recently. It will take some time for the institute to improve its infrastructure and academics. Being an institute of national importance, the institute is attracting good facilities and campus recruits.  The bottom line is if you are sure that you want to pursue integrated MTech, IIEST CS is not a bad option. Be it JU or BESU, the institute does not matter that much. If you are hard-working, you will excel.

Ques
What is the current placement and package scenario in Jadavpur University for B.Tech courses?

● Top Answer By Nitin Kumar on 04 Oct 21

Ans
Jadavpur University has managed to survive the recession to give its student a handsome placement package. My friend is currently studying there and their placement happens all around the years, unlike IITs where placement happens for two weeks or so. Like most engineering colleges, CSE as usual tops the placement with their highest packages. The most popular recruiters include Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, etc. Almost 100% of students are placed in all the branches. Here are some branch-wise placement statistics for the year 2020. Departments Average Package Highest Package CSE 20.6 LPA 58 LPA (Google) IT 15 LPA 51 LPA (Shopee Singapore) EE 9.73 LPA 65 LPA (Atlassian) Mechanical Engineering 8 LPA 17.6 LPA (GAIL) Chemical Engineering 6 LPA 16.8 LPA (AB InBev) Production 7.2 LPA 22 LPA (Goldman Sachs) Another good thing at Jadavpur University is that most of the big IT/ Analytics firms do not discriminate between the branches and allow them to sit for their placements. This way, you can grab a job in any field that you would like if you develop an interest in it in your college tenure.

Ques
How is IEM Kolkata? Which is better, CS at IEM Kolkata or civil/IT at Jadavpur?

● Top Answer By Harsh Ragav on 07 Sept 22

Ans
IEM Kolkata is a reputed technical college in the region. But given a choice, you should take Civil/IT at Jadavpur University. JU ranks among the top engineering colleges in the country. It is well ahead of IEM, in terms of placement and opportunities.  Many core companies visit JU to recruit Civil Engineering students. The IT placement is excellent. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, etc. take part in Jadavpur University placements. During the 2022 placement drive, Facebook offered the highest CTC of INR 1.8 Crore per annum. The second highest CTC was INR 1.4 CPA, by Google.

Ques
Which is better, NIT Trichy CSE or Jadavpur University CSE?

● Top Answer By Sangeeta Bhattacharyya on 02 Sept 21

Ans
As per the reports of last year, NIT Trichy is deemed better than Jadavpur University. Thus, you must not leave any chance to get into NIT Trichy.  As per the NIRF 2020 ranking, NIT Trichy is ranked 9th for B.Tech.  NIT Trichy has a stupendous entrepreneurial culture, with a broad alumni network spread across India and overseas. The alumni network is over 30,000, including CEOs of top firms listed in Fortune India 500 and Forbes Global 2000.  Jadavpur University is ranked 17th for B.Tech by NIRF 2020.  Going by the recent rankings and alumni networks it is safe to say that NIT Trichy is ahead of Jadavpur. However, you should do your own research and make a decision based on that.

Ques
Can Jadavpur University ever be good enough to compete with the top IITs If not why?

● Top Answer By Shreya Pandey on 04 Oct 21

Ans
Having some friends at Jadavpur University, I can list some problems that students usually face: As Jadavpur University is a regional university, it lacks the exposure what central institutes usually attract. For the same reason, the administration is a little lazy and students enjoy too much freedom.  Most of the professors are quite qualified and experienced, you can find a lot of them who aren’t up to the mark. Here, it becomes quite difficult to compete with the level of IIT and NIT professors. Students at Jadavpur are not creative and do not think out of the box. They usually like to go with the flow and simply follow the syllabus for good placement.  The placement scenario of the CSE department might be at a height but sometimes, other departments suffer and couldn't get as great opportunities. The UG research quality in JU is not up to the mark. Although many students indulge in research and projects, the publication quality is not at par. They just make some small change in an algorithm and produce two/three papers but are not recognized very kindly by foreign universities. All in all, JU needs improvements with the serious involvement of all the students, teachers, staff, alumni of JU. By tackling all the problem areas together, it can shine like IITs and NITs in the near future.

Ques
Is NIT Durgapur better than Jadavpur University?

● Top Answer By Sreejita Gupta on 14 Sept 22

Ans
Jadavpur University is better than NIT Durgapur. In spite of being an NIT, NIT D fails to offer many basic facilities. The undergraduate laboratories are not well-maintained. The campus doesn’t have an active research interface for undergraduate degrees.  Jadavpur University students receive way better learning resources and guidance for higher studies. Located at the heart of Kolkata, there is better availability of coaching for competitive examinations. It offers better placements as well. More than 100 recruiting companies took part in Jadavpur University placements of 2022. The highest CTC offered this year was INR 1.8 CPA. Industry giants such as Apple, Facebook, Google, Amazon, etc. took part in the placement drive.

Ques
Currently is IIEST Shibpur formerly BESU better than Jadavpur University?

● Top Answer By Shreya Sethiya on 05 Oct 21

Ans
IIEST Shibpur has begun offering an integrated M.Tech for every engineering stream. So, first, it is best to decide whether or not you want to pursue your course at an institute that doesn’t have a long-standing record of producing postgraduates unlike IITs or other reputed engineering institutes.  Now, from the academic point of view, there is no such difference between Jadavpur University (CSE) and BESU (CSE).  However, the placement reports of Jadavpur University (CS) are currently higher than BESU (now, IIEST) CS. In the last placement drive, the highest CTC offered at JU was 42 LPA. This has been one substantial reason behind why students of IIEST prepare thoroughly for GATE and later opt for IITs. BESU, only recently, has seen a typical upgrade to the status of IIEST, but things still have not drastically altered. The infrastructure of the institute is still undergoing enhancements which still might take a few years from now. It can take a substantial amount of time to improve the academic overview of IIEST. In future, it will definitely attract major recruiters owing to its status as an institute with major national importance.  It does not really make a difference which institute you are opting for, JU or IIEST. If you are dedicated, you can secure good opportunities from both of these two institutes.

Ques
What are the procedure for lateral entry at Jadavpur university?

● Top Answer By Esita Goswami on 09 Nov 21

Ans
The eligibility for lateral entry at Jadavpur University is 50% in diploma. If you have the required percentage you can sit for JELET. A valid rank will be considered for admission.  The number of seats for lateral entry at Jadavpur University is limited. So, in order to get selected, you will need to score higher ranks. Otherwise, you will have to go to the Govt. colleges like JGEC, or KGEC.

How is Jadavpur University in comparison to NITs and IITs?

● Top Answer By Apratim Sinha on 26 Sept 22

Ans
If you aren’t getting old IITs, top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Trichy), Jadavpur University is one of the best choices available. The faculties are highly qualified and experienced. It has a great research culture. Jadavpur offers excellent academic culture, and peer group.  The institute also has an impressive placement record. Jadavpur University placements in 2021 concluded with an average CTC of INR 10.2 LPA. The highest CTC was INR 58 LPA. Major industry giants such as Google, Amazon, and Facebook visit the campus drive of the university.

Ques
Which is better CSE at Jadavpur University or CSE at IIT ISM Dhanbad?

● Top Answer By Saurav Bhaskar on 04 Oct 21

Ans
I have a few friends who have completed their B.tech from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and Jadavpur University. Here are some crucial factors you must take into account to understand the difference. Legacy: IIT(ISM), Dhanbad is an IIT which is a central level engineering institute and also one of the oldest colleges in the country. On the other hand, JU still remains a state-level university. Infrastructure: If you have visited both campuses, you can clearly see that the infrastructure at JU is crumbling as compared to that of IIT(ISM). JU has a campus the size of IIT(ISM), Dhanbad's lower ground. Rankings: Although most rankings are biased and paid, JU is always ranked below IIT(ISM) Dhanbad except in the NIRF Rankings. Placement packages: The tougher JEE Advanced criteria ensures the quality of students IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. All branches perform quite well. For example - The highest salary offered in CSE in the year 2017 was 1.05 crore By no means a state-level university can outstand a national-level Institute. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has an edge over JU in almost all aspects. If you score well enough for IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, there’s no point in thinking about Jadavpur University.
