Course Details

IIT Kharagpur LLB Admissions 2024 are open. IIT Kharagpur is now accepting applciations for admission to LLB program and the application deadline is January 31, 2024. IIT Kharagpur offers a 3-years full-time residential LLB course through Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL). It is offered with a specialization in IP Rights. The LLB course of IIT Kharagpur is spread over 6 semesters. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is required with first class for applying to LLB. Admission to IIT Kharagpur LLB is based on the Entrance Test followed by an Interview. For LL.B programs, the candidates need to fill the application form online and make a payment of INR 2500 (INR 1250 for SC/ST/ PWDs).

IIT Kharagpur LLB Eligibility

Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology / Medicine or equivalent.

Candidates must have a Masters in Science or Pharmacy or equivalent.

They must have completed MBA with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate.

IIT Kharagpur LLB Admission Criteria

Shortlisting for LLB course at IIT KGP is done on the basis of merit obtained in the qualifying exam as well as the marks obtained in the entrance test conducted by the university.
The shortlisted candidates will further have to appear for a personal interview.
The final selection is based on marks secured in the entrance test and performance in interview.
The weights assigned to the above components are as follows:

Key Points:

The CGPA will not be converted into percentage marks if the degree awarding institute provides marks in CGPA system.
The admission of the candidates will be based on the CGPA awarded in their transcript.
If the CGPA is on a different scale other than 10.0, the eligibility of the candidate will be calculated corresponding to the equivalence stated as above.

IIT Kharagpur LLB Entrance Test Details

IIT Kharagpur LLB entrance examination is a 2 hours Computer Based Test (CBT). It has 6 sections namely: English, Logical Reasoning, Mathematical Ability, Basic and Legal Aptitude. The exam consists of objective type questions and is of total 200 marks. There will be no negative marking for an incorrect answer

The computer based test (CBT) for the LLB admissions contains two papers. The part 1 of the paper is conducted for Mathematics and Science. Part 2 of the paper is conducted for English, Logical reasoning, and Legal aptitude. Marks alloted to each paper is as follows:

Part I consists of following sections:

Mathematics 15 marks
Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) 35 marks

Part II consists of following sections:

English 60 marks
Logical Reasoning 20 marks
Legal Aptitude 70 marks

There will be multiple choice based questions (Sample questions are made available in this portal). There is no negative Marking. To get shortlisted for the second round i.e. PI, it is mandatory to obtain minimum 35% marks in each of Part I and Part II of CBT. Only shortlisted candidates who qualify CBT will be called for PI. For final selection, PI is compulsory.

The institute offers good placement opportunities in the Operations domain. During VGSoM IIT Kharagpur placements 2021, the Operations sector had the second-highest placement rate, i.e. 20%. Almost all IITs are excellent engineering colleges providing the best education and amenities. Yet there might be some comparisons that can be drawn based on common aspects like choice, infrastructure, and geographical location. Eventually, it’s a matter of your preferences and not the institute's worth. For example, if you are someone who considers Academics the most important factor to determine the credibility of an institute, then IIT Kanpur is the best choice for you. It has the toughest grading system and the entire focus is on studies. So if you are excellent in academics, you will remain at the top here. Both institutes face a certain level of locational disadvantage but IIT Kanpur is still slightly better in this aspect.

One of my friends had the absolute delight to appear for the PGDBA interview conducted by a multifaceted panel. He shared his interview experience which might help you a bit. Before the interview began, he was taken for a Verification Round wherein, every detail of academics scores or other profile-related information was cross-checked on the IIMs format. Once they received an IIM-verified document they were escorted to the interview venue. The interview room had 3 panels; one from each institute obviously. They asked for his brief introduction first. On hearing about his interest in Data Analytics, panelists probed him further with questions like What is Data Analytics Difference between analytics and analysis Contemporary Data analytics and ML They further asked him why he chose Analytics. He told them that the increasing demand for the same in Europe and China made him realize how much India lacks in this aspect and thus he wanted to invest his efforts in Data Analytics. Next, he was tested on his knowledge of Statistics and Mathematics with questions like Difference between mean, mode, Media Skewness Relationship of mean, mode, and median in a positive Skew graph Hypothesis Testing What is Anova The next panelist took the reins and gave him a problem from SPC quality control. He asked him how do you know that his process in electric bulb making is as per customer Norma and is statistically controlled. My friend was able to answer most of the questions confidently and even solved this problem through charts. Lastly, he was asked about his extracurricular activities and hobbies. The discussion ended with him asking about GST and the difference between GST and previous tax. Even though he gave a common answer, he managed to convert the interview.

ISI Kolkata is the best option for MSc in Maths, followed by IISc. IIT KGP is reputed in the technology domain, but for core science subjects, it’s not a good option. If you are interested to pursue pure Mathematics, choosing ISI is the best option among these. It specializes in the field. You will get better career opportunities and exposure in the field.
