IIT Indore is a good choice among the three options for computer science and engineering (CSE). The reasons for the same are as follows.

• It has a good coding culture and has grown tremendously in this regard. The students proved this in the international ACM ICPC contest.
• Indore is not only a good city, but it is also a local IT hub with a reasonable number of good companies in the vicinity as compared to Dhanbad or Mandi.
• The placements are more or less equal for the three institutes. So, it cannot be the deciding factor.
• The overall growth of the institute is also very impressive.

So on a preference, IIT Indore will come first followed by IIT Mandi and ISM Dhanbad.

IIT Indore ranks 13th by NIRF among the engineering colleges. It consists of a faculty strength of 62 members who are globally recognized. 

CSE is one of the best branches at NIT Surathkal in terms of student quality and faculties. NIT Surathkal is ranked 21st among the best engineering colleges in India, with an alumni strength of 40,000 globally, among which most of them are working in IT and Technical firms.

Here are some of the factors that you should consider while choosing between IIT Indore Electrical and NIT Surathkal CSE.

Admission:

IIT Indore:

• The candidates must have qualified 10+2 with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as compulsory subjects to seek admission for BTech Electrical Engineering. 
• Admission will be based on the marks obtained in JEE Advanced. 

NIT Surathkal:

• The essential eligibility criteria for BTech CSE admission is 10+2 in the science stream, with a minimum of 75% aggregate. 
• The candidates’ selection is based on the JEE Main score, and the seats are allocated through JoSAA counseling.

Placements:

IIT Indore:
 

• The top recruiters of IIT Indore are Accenture, Amazon, Pepsico, Tech Mahindra, PwC, Vodafone, Xiaomi, Philips, Google, etc.
• The placement average for the institute is 95% and the highest package offered in the last placement drive was 50 LPA.

NIT Surathkal:

• The top recruiters of NIT Surathkal are Capgemini, Byjus, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Wipro, Oyo, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, etc. 
• The placement rate NIT Surathkal is 100% and the highest package offered is 39 LPA.

NIT Surathkal CSE is no doubt much better than electrical from IIT Indore. However, if you go for placements, future scope, reputation, and environment, then indeed NIT Surathkal CSE is a better option, but if you are looking for an IIT tag, go for IIT Indore.

All mentioned institutes were founded in the year 2008 except IIT Indore which was founded one year later in 2009. Reputed companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Samsung, Cognizant, Amazon, Cisco, Flipkart offers jobs to students of these IITs. 

The CSE branch at IIT Indore is comparable to the CSE branch of older IITs. Also, it is the highest recruiting branch at IIT Indore and more than 98% of students were placed in 2019. According to last year’s placement record, the average package offered at this IIT was 16.06 LPA and the highest package was 43 LPA. 

IIT Patna has a hundred percent placement in the CSE branch with an average package of 16.76 LPA. The highest package received was around 40 LPA (on-campus). 

Similarly, IIT Bhubaneswar also holds a record of a hundred percent placement in the CSE branch with an overall average package of 11.44 LPA. The highest domestic CTC offered at this IIT in 2019 was around 39 LPA. 

The CSE batch at IIT Ropar received an average package of 13.83 LPA, up from 11.5 LPA. The highest package offered was 17.45 LPA in India and the highest international package was $125000 Per annum. 

In last year’s placement drive companies like Goldman Sachs and Nutanix offered 32 LPA, and 28 LPA respectively in IIT Gandhinagar. About 80% of students were placed with an average package of 8.96 LPA. The highest package offered was 40 LPA in the year 2019. Companies like ISRO, Accenture, BHEL, IBM offers internship to students of IIT Gandhinagar.

The CSE department of all IITs are well equipped with software, hardware, and Network security labs and imparts quality education. But, judging by the placement statistics, the priority order is IIT Indore CSE > IIT Patna CSE > IIT Ropar CSE >IIT Bhubaneswar CSE >IIT Gandhinagar CSE.
 

For the Mechanical course in IIT Indore, the closing rank for IIT-JEE Advanced was around All India Rank 3417-4801. The total intake allotted for the course is 69 seats. In 2019 IIT Indore had 99% placement and the average package was 16.06 LPA. The major companies which recruited the students from Mechanical Branch are Amazon, Blue Start, Cisco, Infosys, and so on.

IIT Bhubaneshwar has a great campus and infrastructure for each department. The closing rank for the Mechanical Engineering course for IIT-JEE Advanced was around All India rank 4003-12065. IIT Bhubaneswar has 40 seats allotted for the course in total. According to the statistics of the year 2019, among all the students of Mechanical course, 83% were placed with a good package. The top companies which recruit students from the mechanical branch are Capgemini, HCl, IBM, Infosys, Tata Motors, Tata Powers, and so on.

The closing rank for the Mechanical course for ISM Dhanbad through IIT-JEE Advanced was around 4719-12869, according to the statistics of 2019. There is a total of 119 seats for the course. The placement record for Mechanical Engineering is not so impressive at this IIT. But, being one of the oldest and reputed colleges it has got a big alumni network. Statistics say that 72.3% got placed in the year 2019 for the Mechanical branch with the highest package being 14.4 LPA. In the year 2019, out of 121 students 88 got placed in companies like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, FMC, NLC, and so on.

All these IITs offer decent Mechanical Engineering programs both in terms of academics and placements, so it’s difficult to decide which institute is better among these.

IIT Indore, ranked 13th for engineering while IIT Hyderabad, ranked 17th were established almost together a decade ago, and since then have witnessed remarkable growth and won many recognitions.

It is very tough to distinguish between these colleges as these are premier institutes of the nation. Infrastructurally they are almost at par with all facilities available. Faculties are highly qualified, few being involved in many government funded research projects. Hence, it is up to the student to choose a given course in a particular college.

Being ranked in 11th position for engineering in India by NIRF 2020, IIT BHU offers a five-year Integrated dual degree course in Mathematics and Computing which is one of the most demanded courses at IIT BHU.

IIT Indore has been ranked 9th among the best engineering colleges in India by NIRF. The institute offers a B.Tech degree in CSE which spans for four years in contrast with a B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing from IIT BHU.

IIT BHU:

• Overall 52 companies participated in the recruitment process this year offering 762 job offers in total.

• The batch of 2019-20 experienced amazing placement records with Mathematics and Computing branch grabbing the average package of 21.94 LPA with 80% of students being placed in top recruiting companies.

• The highest domestic CTC offered at IIT BHU in 2020 was 1.06 CPA while the highest international package was 1.59 CPA.

IIT Indore:

• 160+ companies took part in the recruitment process in 2020 making 578 job offers.

• 90% of the students got placed with an average package of 22.92 LPA. This rate increases to 96% when we individually consider CSE branches.

• 58LPA is the highest domestic CTC offered this year. With 2 international offers, the highest International CTC is 72 LPA

The deciding factor here is which branch are you most inclined towards. If your plan is to pursue masters abroad and you are interested in CSE you will not go wrong with IIT Indore. If your priority is mathematics and if you aim to go for a Ph.D. further, it's feasible to opt for this dual degree course as it saves a year. Ultimately it's up to you, your passion and interest.
