Jamia Millia Islamia Admissions 2024 Quick Updates

Jamia Millia Islamia is inviting applications for its One-Year Urdu program through the Centre For Distance And Open Learning. The admissions are open all year round with a registration fee of INR 500.

Other updates are as follows:

  • JMI has released the entrance test schedule for PhD admission 2023-24. The PhD Admission Test will be held on December 16, 17, and 18, 2023.

JMI uses a course-wise admission method for its UG and PG programmes, including options such as BA and B.Tech. Many courses require the university entrance test, while specified programmes use national exam scores such as JEE Main, NEET-UG, CUET, NATA, NCET, GATE and CLAT only where the university states so.

As a Minority Institution under Article 30(1) of the Indian Constitution, JMI keeps 30% seats for Muslim minority candidates and another 10% seats only for Muslim women in every programme. The same reservation rule applies across all JMI courses.

JMI B.Tech regular programmes have a yearly fee of INR 19,525, while each self-financed B.Tech programme has a yearly fee of INR 1,53,175.

JMI Admission Portal: admission.jmi.ac.in

Admission Update:
  • UG Programs: The application window ran from February 20 to March 25, 2026. JMI held entrance tests from April 26 to June 5, 2026. Result lists and selection lists were being issued in July 2026.
  • B.Tech: The application portal opens 10 days after JEE Main 2026 results. The first selection list was expected in July 2026. Final spot admissions continue through September 2026.
  • CUET-Based Programs: Students register through the NTA CUET portal. They must also apply to JMI at @admission.jmi.ac.in. Counselling was expected in August 2026 after CUET results.
  • Because JMI is a Minority Educational Institution under Article 30(1) of the Constitution, it does not follow the 10% EWS reservation used by non-minority central universities.
  • JMI conducts its own entrance tests for most UG and PG courses. CUET scores are used only for the programmes notified by the university.
  • B.Tech seats are allotted by JMI through its own counselling on the basis of JEE Main rank. JoSAA does not allot seats for JMI.
  • For BA LLB (5-year), JMI uses its own entrance test and does not accept CLAT scores.
  • The application fee is different for different programmes as listed in the JMI prospectus. Students applying through national exams may also have to pay the fee charged by the exam authority.
  • Eligible students from Jamia schools and other listed internal categories can claim a 5% internal preference.
  • JMI notifies separate admission rules for Jammu & Kashmir candidates.
  • A student can apply under only one reserved category at one time.
  • JMI Admission Portal (2026): @admission.jmi.ac.in

Direct Admission at JMI: JMI does not allow direct admission or management quota admission. Seats are given only through merit, the stated admission method and the reservation policy.

JMI Admission FAQs

Ques. Are CUET UG marks used for every JMI undergraduate course?

Ans. No. JMI uses CUET UG scores only for 8 specific UG programs, mainly BA Hons language courses in Hindi, Urdu, Turkish, French, Spanish and Korean, along with B.Sc Hons Applied Mathematics. Other UG courses need JMI's own entrance test. B.Tech uses JEE Main, and B.Arch uses NATA.

Ques. Can a CLAT score be used for JMI BA LLB admission?

Ans. No. The Faculty of Law at JMI does not take CLAT scores for BA LLB (Hons). Admission to the 5-year course is through JMI's own Common Entrance Test (CET), held on June 4, 2026. The course has 120 seats, divided equally between the general fee and self-financed fee categories.

Ques. How many seats are reserved for Muslim minority students at JMI?

Ans. JMI is a Minority Institution under Article 30(1) of the Constitution. In every programme, 30% seats are reserved for Muslim minority candidates and another 10% seats are reserved only for Muslim women. The remaining seats are open to all communities on merit. JMI does not apply the 10% EWS reservation because it is exempt from that provision.

Ques. Is JMI B.Tech counselling handled by JoSAA?

Ans. No. JMI is not included in JoSAA counselling. For B.Tech, students must apply separately on admission.jmi.ac.in after JEE Main results. JMI then conducts its own multi-round counselling, and a valid JEE Main Paper 1 score is compulsory.

Ques. How much is the JMI application fee for 2026 admission?

Ans. The fee is INR 1,000 for Engineering, Law, Management, Architecture and Dentistry programmes. For other faculties such as Humanities, Sciences, Fine Arts and Education, the fee is INR 700. Students pay the fee online at admission.jmi.ac.in.

Ques. What was the JMI B.Tech CSE closing rank in JEE Main?

Ans. In 2025, the General category Round 1 closing rank for JMI CSE was 17,752. In Round 2, it moved to 42,668. Muslim minority category students got admission at higher ranks in comparison. For 2026, the cutoff will depend on JEE Main 2026 scores and the number of applicants. JMI will publish the official cutoff with each selection list on admission.jmi.ac.in.

Ques. May final-year bachelor's students apply for JMI PG admission?

Ans. Yes. Students in the final year of their bachelor's degree can apply for JMI PG programmes in 2026. Their admission is provisional. They must submit the final marksheet showing at least 50% aggregate by the date mentioned in the admission notice. If they do not meet the required marks, JMI cancels the provisional admission.

Ques. Does JMI offer paid direct admission or management quota seats?

Ans. No. Jamia Millia Islamia is a Central Government University and does not offer management quota, NRI quota or direct paid admission. Seats are given through entrance test merit and the university reservation policy. A seat cannot be secured by paying a capitation fee.

Ques. Who can use the Jamia internal quota?

Ans. JMI reserves 5% of seats in most programmes for students who studied in Jamia schools from nursery to Class 12 or for wards of JMI employees. They still have to take the required entrance test. Seats are allotted by merit within the internal quota pool. At document verification, they must show valid school or employment proof.

Ques. Which documents are checked during JMI admission verification?

Ans. Students must carry originals and self-attested copies of the Class 10 certificate, Class 12 marksheet and certificate, graduation marksheets for PG courses, JEE Main/CUET/GATE scorecard where applicable, JMI entrance test admit card, category certificate for Muslim minority, SC/ST, PwD, J&K domicile or Jamia internal category where applicable, recent passport photographs and Aadhaar card. JMI publishes the programme-wise document list with the selection list on admission.jmi.ac.in.

If you talk about ranking, then I can bet on it it's in the top 3 universities of india, and the engineering research team is well established. I've applied for hbtu kanpur and iet Lucknow and I've participated in jossa where I get admission in pec Chandigarh but I didn't go for them because at the same time I got admission in jamia millia islamia and I've opt it because it's quite renowned and also it's in delhi which is quite near to my home. The engineering ranking also quite better than the others i was getting. I didn't get rejection from any others college's mentioned above but at the same time I've got admission in jamia millia islamia. The admission process of BTech is done through the rank of jee mains, so once we get result of jee then jmi starts their separate counselling for admission in btech and on that basis it release list for admission in which cut-off and all sorts present. The cut-off varies year by year. Sometimes it goes higher and sometimes it closes very soon.

Comparing School of Engineering CUSAT and Jamia Millia Islamia is not suitable as both the colleges are well established and are holding their culture and curriculum really very well. So, choosing either of them would not be easy.

But, as far as I know, Jamia Millia Islamia was established 100 years ago and is better than SOE CUSAT.

Jamia Millia Islamia will offer you a productive and competitive environment. You will also get to do lots of extracurricular activities and will get to learn from highly efficient teaching staff in JMI.

In CUSAT, you might be taught by recently graduated teachers. This will not only affect the teaching methodology but a good exposure as well.

CUSAT is nicely harnessed and handled by various Political parties for their own benefit. You can see a few strikes now and then among students and parties. But it should not be your concern as you are going to study there and grow productively.

Jamia Millia Islamia MBA is pretty good in terms of academics and placements. Around 80% of the students get placed each year. For the MBA placement of 2022, more than 25 recruiting companies visited the campus drive. The average CTC offered during campus placement is INR 4-6 LPA.

The faculties are good. Most of the faculty members are from FMS and IIMs.

Jamia Millia Islamia MBA fees is nominal. The total course fees for 2 years are INR 2.10 Lakhs. So, the ROI is pretty good. Here is a video comprising details of an MBA from Jamia Milia University

Overall, doing an MBA from Jamia Milia University is really worth it.

It mostly depends on you and your overall academic performance, however, it is not very difficult in Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI).

  • The admission procedure is based on the entrance exams. If you score good marks, you can get admission to any course.
  • JMI generally has a limited amount of intake and an increasing number of applicants it surely is making it difficult to secure a seat.
  • Being a Muslim-minority institution, Jamia has special reservations for the community. It also reserves seats for Muslim women.
  • Unlike Delhi University or Aligarh Muslim University, there is no quota for Jamia students in Master's courses.

JMI, like any other institution, selects students according to their merit and performance in the entrance exam. The difficulty in admission may vary from student to student.

Family income - If you are from economically weak family background, you will surely have an advantage.

Extra-curricular activities- If you are an active participant in extra-curricular activities then, you can get extra points.

Hope this clears your confusion.

I have cousins from both NIT Goa, and Jamia Millia Islamia and as they mention, the latter is famous for its CSE course. Usually, students do not leave the opportunity to go for the CSE course of Jamia Millia Islamia.

  • CSE is comparably better than most of the other branches in the educational domain.
  • CSE provides you job opportunities in accordance to what you have been exposed to, academically.
  • On the other hand, ECE is undeniably a good choice of stream.
  • For securing a good job position, you will have to pursue majoring in one of many programming languages or web development projects.
  • This translates to studying for your course and also pursuing something extra for exposure.
  • While CSE students are already part of studying these domains in general.
  • ECE students usually also go for the GATE exam.
  • However, the only upside ECE students enjoy is finding the slightest amount of vacancies in PSU, while CS students are somewhat one step lower than it.
Categories ECE at NIT Goa CSE at Jamia Millia Islamia
Course Fee 5.38 lakh 64,600
Highest CTC 13 LPA 20 LPA
Average CTC 6.5 LPA 8-10 LPA
Recruiting Companies L&T, Microsoft, Siemens, Infosys, etc. TCS, Wipro, Adobe, Cognizant, etc.

Apart from these few, it depends upon how hard you work. Be it ECE or CSE, you have to work hard and utilize the time and opportunities you get while studying in college.
