But GRE exam eligibility has to be followed strictly in terms of ID proof, and universities also have their pre-determined GRE eligibility which has to be followed by candidates. Let us study the GRE exam eligibility requirements in detail.

    ID Required for GRE

GRE exam eligibility criteria in India consider the passport as the only ID proof. Most of the requirement for ID is to make the GRE registration process smooth.

    • The spelling of the name must be the same in the form and the ID proof (Remember, failing to match the name in the application form and ID proof, an application can be canceled)
    • Photocopies are not accepted – produce the ID proof in original
    • ID proof must not be expired – check the date beforehand
    • The attached photograph in the ID proof must be recent
    • The signature should be similar

In the GRE test centers, the ID proofs will be used for verification purposes and that may include:

    • Biometric of the candidate
    • Fingerprint verification or thumb impression verification
    • Photo identification
    • Signature comparison
    • Videotaping

Tips: Stay calm during the verification process – it may take some time, don’t allow your energy to be drained during the verification process. Also, do check the ID proof and its validity time and again before the exam. In terms of GRE exam eligibility age, there is no maximum age limit for GRE.

    GRE Score Eligibility for University

It needs to be noted that GRE is taken by the aspirants of MBA, MS, or law courses in the globally top universities. Though there is no age or educational specifications falling under GRE requirements, according to research it has been found that 33 is the average age of students pursuing their grad. Apart from the qualifying GRE score, these programs may ask for a number of criteria to be met by the candidates, for example:

    • Score in undergraduate courses
    • Score in language proficiency courses like TOEFL and IELTS
    • Project Quality
    • Work experience
    • Letter of recommendation
    • Letter of purpose

The average TOEFL score for graduate admission should be 86, whereas the average GRE score range for admission is around 150 – 152. GRE eligible score for top universities is 320. GRE scholarship eligibility also depends on GRE score because, for a candidate to be eligible for scholarships, a high GRE score is mandatory.

    GRE Eligibility for Educational Qualification

ETS has put no pressure on previous qualifications until the candidate is an undergraduate in any stream (arts, science, business, humanities, and so on). Universities don’t have any strictness regarding it, though they might ask for a certain GPA. For instance, the Ivy League schools require high GPAs like Harvard with 3.8 and Columbia with 3.85 on a 4.0 scale.

    GRE Eligibility for Work Experience

Most students are concerned about the requirement of work experience but this is not a strict GRE eligibility. There are numerous candidates who spend a prolonged time preparing for the GRE exam after their undergrad. A proper justification has to be presented before the authorities in case of any issues.

    Availability of GRE Exam Dates

Candidates preparing for GRE are already aware of the GRE eligibility that it can be taken 5 times a year with a gap of 21 days between each GRE exam date. If the candidate has already attempted the exam 5 times for a particular year, they will only be able to take it once the year ends.

GRE Eligibility for Differently Abled Candidates

For candidates wondering of eligibility for GRE in case of any physical disability, then it must be cleared that ETS provides every kind of assistance. The candidate needs to fill a form provided in the bulletin and share the same with ETS.

GRE Eligibility: Test Availability in Iran and Mainland China

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, ETS has arranged a GRE online at-home service which will allow the students to take the exam from the safety of their homes. But Iran and Mainland China are exceptional in this case, and candidates residing in these places need to wait till testing centers reopen.

ETS is working with the above-mentioned places to arrange for at-home testing.

    GRE Eligibility: At-home Exam guidelines

The GRE at-home exam should be taken by maintaining a test-center-like ambiance which also includes sitting in a tabletop arrangement and not in a bed or other places giving a sluggish feel. The GRE at-home exam is kept in check by the examiner online which makes this a vital GRE eligibility for the at-home exam.

    GRE Eligibility: Mandatory Masks

For GRE test centers that are accessible, students need to wear masks on a mandatory basis. Rubber gloves are optional. The mask will only need to be removed during the photo session. The mentioned details will prove helpful for candidates to gain knowledge about GRE eligibility. It must be noted that there is no GRE exam eligibility age limit that candidates need to abide by.

Ans. In case you are enquiring about the CAT percentile let me clarify that ISB Hyderabad does not take into consideration CAT scores. It accepts GMAT/GRE scores only. Most importantly, the ISB Shortlisting process is profile-based. This means even with a lower percentile you can manage to get shortlisted provided you have an excellent profile. There is no fixed cutoff for GMAT. However, a 700+ GMAT score isn't a must-have for ISB if your application is strong in other areas. According to an ISB spokesperson, candidates were admitted to the 2021 cohort with scores as low as 580, and as high as 780. So the GMAT score range for ISB is 580-780. Read more

Ans. Of the two entrance exams, GMAT and GRE, the former is a better option. ISB Hyderabad has recently started accepting GRE scores. This doesn’t mean that taking the GRE is a bad idea. Many business schools apart from ISB are now accepting GRE scores. The best part is that ISB won’t be converting your GRE scores to GMAT for comparison during the MBA admissions. GRE is suitable for students who are considering other PG options apart from MBA like MS or MA.  For someone who is sure of their career in an MBA, the GMAT is a better choice because GRE is much more dynamic. GMAT shows your commitment to MBA and thereby increases your chances of admission in comparison to GRE which shows that you are open to various options. ISB Hyderabad prefers GMAT over GRE also because the former is a more quantitatively challenging exam than the latter.  Certain firms may ask for your GMAT score before shortlisting you for your interview. These include the biggest firms in the corporate world like McKinsey So from these points, we can safely conclude that GMAT is a better option for MBA students provided that you are sure of your course.
