MDI Gurgaon offers an AICTE-approved Post Graduate Diploma in Management Business Management (PGDM-BM) for professionals having a minimum 5 years of work experience. The 18-month PGDM BM Programme is approved by AICTE and globally accredited with the Association of MBAs, UK. (AMBA).

For MDI Gurgaon Admission PGDM BM Programme, The applicants are initially shortlisted on the basis of their GMAT/ CAT/ XAT scores followed by a personal Interview Round. MDI Gurgaon PGDM-BM programme comprises a two-week international or domestic immersion module and an experiential learning module.

MDI Gurgaon PGDM-BM Selection Process

For Domestic Candidates the MDI PGDM BM shortlisting Process includes the following steps:

Shortlisting of applicants for the MDI PGDM BM will be done on the basis of the application form screening and their valid CAT/ XAT/GMAT scores.
MDI Gurgaon shortlists the applicants for PGDM-BM 2023 batch in two rounds. For both rounds, shortlisted applicants will be called for PI rounds at any of the centers: Gurugram, Bangalore and Mumbai.
The Interview process may also be conducted online through Zoom for which the intimation will be given to the short-listed applicants in advance.

Self-Sponsored /Sponsored Candidates through CAT / XAT

The applicants must have a valid CAT-2023/ XAT 2024 score to be eligible for the admission to MDI PGDM-BM Programme.

Foreign/ NRI/ PIO Applicants

NRI/ Foreign applicants can be considered for admission on the basis of their valid GMAT scores. Government of India (GOI) rules will be followed related to admission of these categories of candidates. GOI guidelines will be applicable in determining the status of applicants.

MDI PGDM BM Global Immersion Programme

During the course of study of MDI PGDM BM, the participants will have to undertake an International or Domestic Immersion module besides a mandatory experiential learning module on leadership competency development. Due to Covid, MDI took PI online for the academic year 2021. There are usually two professors in the interview panel.

The interview starts with an introduction. There will be questions based on your past academics and work experience. You can also expect general questions like -

What is your CAT percentile?
Was this the first time you took CAT, if not what was your percentile in previous attempts?
What other calls do you have?
What are your hobbies?

There will be questions regarding current affairs and news as well. So, keep yourself updated about the current happenings around the world.

What CAT percentile do I require to get calls from IIM Blackis, FMS, SP Jain, JBIMS and MDI Gurgaon?

For GEM, the CAT percentiles required to get an interview call from IIM Blackis, FMS, SP Jain, JBIMS, and MDI Gurgaon are

ABC and FMS: Both institutes required nothing less than 99.5. Those who get admission at a lesser percentile, usually don’t belong to the GEM category. There are many who don’t even get a call with 99.3. So to stay on the safer side, go for nothing less than 99.5.
IIM Indore and Kozhikode: Both the institutes require percentiles around 97.5 for an interview call
SPJIMR: This Institute has unique selection criteria under which CAT is given less value and calls are issued on the basis of the candidate's profile. The CAT percentile required in this case is less than the normal if you have a good academic profile along with work experience,
MDI: This institute issues calls around the 96% mark.

It’s important to know that these figures are based on trends and not on actual data so you will find exceptions everywhere. Moreover, it’s better you don’t waste time analyzing the CAT cutoff and start preparing for the same.

Among these, NITIE Mumbai is the best institute for an MBA. It is considered the Mecca of Operations and SCM. The Ops and SCM job profiles offered at NITIE Mumbai placements are even better than the ones offered from these sectors at IIM ABCL. The final placement record for 2022 showed the average CTC is INR 24.51 LPA. Highest CTC offered this year was INR 49 LPA.

Locational benefits, a huge alumni base, and a stellar placement record are some of the other factors that work in favor of NITIE.

Should I go for MDI Gurgaon or IIM Indore?

Determine what you want to learn in the two years you will spend at either of these colleges. Both colleges have very different offerings. Choose the one that provides you with more flexibility, a wider range of people to interact with and learn from, and opportunities to pursue your interests. These things will be more important in the long run because, after a few years, people will not judge you based on your alma mater, but vice versa.

Inquire about alumni interaction and entrepreneurship support. Even if you never want to be an entrepreneur, such networks can help you complete tasks that would otherwise take months. It is up to you to select the best college for yourself.

Should I attend MDI Gurgaon or IIM Indore?

Well, these two institutes cannot be positioned to compare with each other. However, the only benefit seen in the case of IIM Indore is that it will assist in accessing the alumni network of PAN India. This does not apply to MDI Gurgaon students. This is beneficial for the students who want to start their individual businesses and switch jobs to a higher profile in later days.

Rather, it is difficult enough to comments on the faculties, placements, and other facilities. Following is a brief overview of these two institutes considering the placement statistics.

Most of the people have suggested that overall all the three colleges are good and you will not be facing any problem if you take admission in any one of them. The NITIE College is good operations management, MDI is good for General management and Human resource management and IIFT is good for International trade. So, it depends upon you which branch you are interested in.

The overall reviews of these colleges are as follows:

MDI:

This college is fairly consistent in getting top 10 rankings.
There are various kinds of live projects in the college which will help you in understanding the working culture in the corporate industry. Some of this live project will also allow formulating business strategies.
You will be having access to great infrastructure such as Bloomberg terminal and EuroMonitor database.
Along with the vibrant campus you will also be getting right guidance from Professors like Prof Bakshi , Prof Chatterjee and Prof. Mitra who will help you in getting the right path.
You will also be getting great placement opportunities in various fields.

NITIE:

Operations management in this college is very good.
It is located in Mumbai and because of this location that will get lots of live projects in the industries.
The college also provides good placement in the field of supply chain management, operations management, etc.
This college also has a good alumni base. There is not much flexibility in the placements and the rest depends upon you.

IIFT Kolkata:

It is one of the greatest colleges with economics and trade as its pillars.
If you are looking for branches like international business and operations management then this is the best college.
There is a slight disadvantage between Kolkata and Delhi branches but the placements in both locations are similar.

You may want to consider MDI Gurgaon over IMT Ghaziabad. MDI offers superior course content, faculty involvement, and in-class experience. Additionally, MDI has a stronger alumni base and better placement record, which is crucial in today's competitive job market.

Recruiters also view MDI as comparable to the IIMs, making it a more reputable brand in the industry. This is especially important when you are competing against a large pool of candidates for that coveted job.

When it comes to placement packages, MDI outperforms IMT. The average and median packages offered during IMT Ghaziabad PGDM placements in 2023 were INR 17.35 LPA and INR 16.0 LPA, respectively. In comparison, the average package offered during MDI Gurgaon placements in 2022 was INR 26.2 LPA. The average packages offered during MDI Gurgaon placements in 2021 and 2022 were INR 22.05 LPA and INR 23.15 LPA, respectively. You should actually stop focusing so much on just average placements. My friend is a pass out of MDI Gurgaon and he says your admission to MDI is more than enough to grant you a high-paying job. So rest assured about that part and focus on what the program is teaching and gain as much knowledge as possible. Some highlights from the glittering life at MDI Gurgaon are

You meet students from versatile backgrounds and cultures that add to the overall learning experience.
The curriculum is so rigorous that it prepares you for the worse situations
The initial months are pretty strenuous and you might find it hard to get a proper sleep
The much-needed exposure to the corporate world is brought in by industry experts who conduct guest lectures that are very enlightening and interactive.
Additional exposure is sought through corporate talks, live projects, and tech fests.
The curriculum is designed in such a way that every student acquires the analytical skills to question and fulfills all the requirements of the corporate world.
The course structure is updated regularly to cope with the ever-changing external requirements
The B Schools have an elaborate lush green campus and enjoy easy access through Metro.

My review of the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon is fairly objective and is based on my sister's review of the same. I have written a detailed review with elaborate pros and cons that might clear most of your doubts.

Pros

Campus: The campus is in the vicinity of all the dynamic places in Gurgaon like a cyber hub, sec 29, and golf course road. However, inside the campus, the ambiance is exactly different and serene. The infrastructure and campus are extremely beautiful, lush green, and well-built to give you a fairly dreamy experience.

No reservation: Unlike other B Schools, MDI Gurgaon does not reserve seats for minorities or any other groups. So the entire batch is usually 98 percentilers ensuring you avail the best peer learning experience.

Clubs: MDI Gurgaon has the usual clubs as well as the extraordinary ones like Unnati and Illumina Illumina is a disguised market research event, wherein a Diwali mela is organized on the campus. Marketing companies give out projects for market research to students who then create games to do research. Unnati is a fund operated by the students of MDI. Alums and students invest in it.

Faculty: The faculty keeps changing or retiring but the most permanent faculty is Prof. Sanjay Bakshi, who also runs a company called Value Quest.

Placements: The placements are definitely not at or with IIM ABC but are at level with IIM IKL or FMS.

Exchange program: The exchange program is one of the best in the country as almost one-third of the batch gets to visit Europe and get amazing exposure.

Alumni: MDI has its alumni in top positions in the corporate world as well as the startup world. Some of them include Paperboat, Instamojo, Cashify, etc. Some of the alums are in top positions like Amit Boni, who is the head of Motorola India.

Cons

Weak alumni base: The alumni meets are just official meet-ups not many are interested to attend. Only the recent batches meet and no one is interested in strengthening the network.

There are not many flaws one can point to this great Institute as you can see how the pros overshadow the cons and make it a good choice.

What are the chances of a fresher to get selected in FMS, XLRI, MDI with less than 60% in 12th?

It will be difficult to get into colleges such as FMS, XLRI, and MDI with less than 60% in 12th. But it’s achievable. FMS assigns 10% weight to 10+2 scores. So, if you manage to score around the 99.5 percentile in CAT, you will have a chance of getting shortlisted. You need to perform well in the GD-PI round as well. XLRI and MDI assign 15% weight to past academics and work experience.

So, try to work on your profile by adding extra-curricular activities. Also, prepare well for entrance tests and the GD-PI round.
