Certainly, pursuing a career in Human Resources (HR) is a great option for individuals interested in this field. There are several top-notch colleges in India that offer specializations in HR and among them, SCMHRD is considered to be the best. This college is well recognized and respected in the industry, particularly for its HR stream. It is also rated among the top 20 B-schools in India and enjoys a high reputation in the corporate world.
SCMHRD is a hub of opportunities, attracting several top-notch companies from various industries including conglomerates, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), consultancy, and information technology. These companies come to the campus to offer a wide range of roles and packages to students. As a result, students are exposed to diverse opportunities and can choose the one that suits their interests and career aspirations the best.
Before making a decision, it is advisable to evaluate all your options based on the majors you want to pursue and the opportunities that are available to you. It is essential to take into consideration factors such as your interests, skills, and goals before making a final decision. With the right approach and mindset, SCMHRD can provide a solid foundation for your career in HR and help you achieve your professional goals.
SIBM Pune features a fairly substantial reputation within the MBA league. My friends who have passed from this college have mostly ended up with very great jobs and work in the upper echelons in their respective workplaces. Of course, the law of average work at SIBM too, and here there are a few people who fall below the average expectations.
You will not get the coveted badge of an IIM or an ISB. That is something the pass outs of SIBM will have to live with. It does harm the chances sometimes in the corporate world but not necessarily.
The table shows a brief overview of the institution:
Particulars |
SIBM |
SCMHRD |
Highest CTC |
Rs. 34.2 lakhs |
Rs. 38 lakhs |
Average CTC |
Rs. 20.1 lakhs |
Rs. 15.60 lakhs |
Minimum CTC |

Rs. 9 lakhs |
Symbiosis has several colleges which provide an MBA program SIBM, Pune doesn’t stand out much. To the outside world, the student is just from Symbiosis. This can be a bit of a problem for the pass outs of SIBM and SCMHRD since these two colleges are in the top 25 leagues in India.
Yes, it’s worth it. In some cases, it is even essential to do an MBA after having 2 years of work experience in IT.
I know a few people from SIBM Pane, so I can tell you about the MBA program offered by them.
Also, MBA can be a much-needed break for many with corporate careers. It’s a fun experience, you will get to learn a lot through many corporate interactions.
One of my relatives who used to be a student of SCMHRD feels that the course is directly proportional to the quality or effort of the students who are a part of it.
He has shed some light on the following:
The institute also provides a good platform for appearing in various events of the institute and corporate events. It can be a good way to stand out from the crowd.
SCMHRD Infrastructure Management is better. The institute is widely recognized in the industry and ranks among the top B-Schools in the country. In this Infrastructure Management course, you will get to learn in detail about infrastructure policies, contract management, project finance, and other aspects of infrastructure such as airways, roads, rails, ports, urban development, renewable energy, etc. You will get to choose project execution or project finance according to your expertise.
100% of MBA IM students get placed each year. SCMHRD average package is around INR 6-8 LPA. Fortress Financial Services, ABPS Infrastructure, Capgemini, etc. were among the major recruiters.
Doing an MBA from top IIMs and XLRI have its advantages. These are the best management schools in the country and offer excellent career opportunities and exposure. But it doesn’t necessarily mean pursuing an MBA from JBIMS will not be worth the investment. It ranks right after IIM ABC, XLRI, and FMS. It has maintained a stellar placement record over the years. JBIMS placements 2022 concluded with an average CTC of INR 27.63 LPA. The return on investment is great.
SCMHRD isn’t as reputed as JBIMS. But it is also a good B-School with decent placement record. The average CTC for SCMHRD is around INR 16 LPA.
This would certainly not be easy for a non-engineer fresher to get management consulting roles in firms such as Accenture, McKinsey, Deloitte, EY, Capgemini etc.
Even if some companies do offer such roles, they care about your academics in your MBA, your work experience, your personality, and your background. They want to know if you are an engineer or not, they also want to know if you know about IT or not. There are various rounds of interviews lined up to test your skills and abilities.
So, yes there will be scope especially in IT consulting roles from these institutes. All you have to do is give your best efforts and leave the rest on the companies to decide what kind of professional they want.
The simple answer to your question is no, the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, or XIMB are not at par with the established ones XLRI, TISS, MDI, and SCMHRD. The established programs especially that of XLRI are the epitome of HR programs. They cannot be compared to the new ones at any given level or parameter.
Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers.
So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.
SCMHRD offers a good HR MBA program. It offers a decent curriculum and placements. SCMHRD placements in 2021 concluded with an average CTC of INR 16.5 LPA. The highest CTC offered was INR 33.6 LPA.
For HR, XLRI is better than SCMHRD. TISS is a great option for HR as well. In terms of placements, SCMHRD is comparable to TISS.
Someone I know who is an alumnus of SCMHRD has said that finding out which college is better will bear little to no fruits.
You can get in touch with the professionals from both programs and try to understand what you will have to do in order to make a name for yourself. An internal analysis is involved after which it is gauged what field would be the most suitable for you.
NMIMS is popular for producing marketing professionals. Finance is also popular in the institute. Analytics is not the flagship course of SCMHRD. They are very different courses and your temperament and aptitude are also contributing factors.
