I know I might sound blunt, but you cannot get into NIT Trichy CSE unless you belong to a reserved category. The expected opening and closing rank for the B.Tech CSE course at NIT Trichy for the academic session 2022 was around 400 to 5300. This year there might be only a slight difference. However, your rank of 10000 has no chance considering the cutoff.
Don’t get discouraged as here is the bright side. You might not get into NIT Trichy CSE but you surely might get into NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur which are quite good institutes if not as good as Trichy. In fact, NIT Jalandhar was ranked among the top 5 NITs in NIRF rankings (placement-wise).
You can't get NIT Trichy's CSE, but don't worry you can still get CSE at NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, etc. Believe me, they are also good institutions. Talking about NITJ it was ranked among top 5 NITs in NIRF rankings placement-wise.
Another option is to apply at your home state institute. For instance, if you are from Delhi, go for DTU or NSIT. While the choice of Institute does matter, the majority depends on your own persistence.
Applicants need at least 60% aggregate marks in 10+2, in order to get admission at NIT Trichy. This is the prerequisite for applying.
For final admission, students are shortlisted based on their JEE Main rank. NIT Trichy cutoff depends on several factors, such as branch, domicile, student category, competition, etc. The required cutoff for CSE and ECE is relatively higher, as most students opt for these branches. In 2021, the closing cutoff for CSE was 793.
This story took place in the first year of my sister’s course. During the first semester exams, the area witnessed heavy rain for about 4 to 5 days. Due to the rains, the grounds of the campus and the area around the hostel were completely flooded. With cows on the campus, their primary source of nutrition had vanished.
One of my sister’s friends forgot to lock the room door on the day of the chemistry exam. When he returned, he looked around the room to check for his belongings. Bed, clothes, books, cow, cupboard. A cow!
Truth to be told, there really was a cow in a corner of his room eating away at his books. The first book to be nibbled page by page was PW Atkins Physical Chemistry, an essential chemistry textbook. It seemed like the cow knew how to eat a book as it was eating it page by page. It had started with the cover and was on page 176 by the time my sister’s friend reached. It was of course imperative to get the bovine out of the room.
Looking at the commotion, a small crowd had also gathered and the cow refused to leave despite multiple attempts. Poking with a broom didn’t help either. What was worse than it had switched over to eating Richard Feynman’s Lectures on Physics and these three books were collectively worth INR 2500. My friend clearly didn’t want to bear that sort of damage. Finally, someone grabbed the cow’s tail which somehow got it to leave and out of the hostel.
The cow definitely found these two subjects easier to digest than students. It was a wild day. They even found white cow dung a few days later.
The campus life at NIT Trichy is great. A few of my friends graduated from NIT Trichy. Here are their experiences in brief.
Hostels:
The hostel rooms are spacious compared to other NITs and IITs. In the first year, you will have to share a room with 2 other students. Students of other years are given double occupancy rooms. Wi-fi speed in hostel rooms is decent.
Hostels like Zircon, and Amber are situated far away from the activity zone and lecture halls, but you will get used to cycling your way eventually.
Student Activities:
From technical, robotics, management, product design, entrepreneurship, to haking, web design, automobile, you will find a wide range of clubs to join. There are also organizations like AIESEC, Toastmasters, TedX, etc.
Fests:
Festember - the cultural fest and Pragyan - the techno-management fest these two are the inter-college fest of NIT Trichy. You will get to gain relevant experience by working with the organizing team.
Academics:
Since it is the top NIT, you will get access to a lot of resources. There’s a computer center with 24*7 access. There is also a SCIENT building where you can complete projects on your own. You will have access to machines and computer systems.
Faculty:
NIT T has a lot of well-qualified and experienced professors who will go out of their way to help you if you approach them.
Labs:
Although the labs are well-equipped with modern instruments, you won’t get to do experiments on your own.
Diverse Student Crowd:
The student crowd is diverse. Since it is located in Tamil Nadu, almost 50% of the students are from Tamil Nadu. Around 30-35% of the students are from Andra Pradesh or Telangana. The remaining are from all over India.
Living on the NIT Trichy campus is an enriching experience. You will get good opportunities to learn and develop as a person.
According to the NIT Trichy Placements, Electrical Engineering students usually get salary packages in the range of INR 5-10 LPA. While highest CTC offered goes up to around INR 20 LPA. The top job role offered to Electrical Engineering students is Electrical Machine Designing. Bajaj, Tata, GAIL, HPCL, etc. are some of the major recruiters for the branch.
NIT Warangal provides very good hostel facilities to first-year students among most of the Engineering students in India. The approximate cost for a hostel ranges from 1.8-2k.
Second-year students are required to stay in the Old Blocks which is not as good as the hostels of First-year students.
For Third Year students, an average hostel costing 1k is provided with pretty decent facilities.
At a glance, we can say that the hostel facilities of NIT Warangal are better than that of NIT Trichy.
Yes NIT Trichy is better than IIT Mandi.
Being a new IIT, IIT Mandi still doesn’t have a good infrastructure. It also doesn’t have good industry recognition. NIT Trichy on the other hand is old and well-reputed in the corporate world.
NIT Trichy has a locational disadvantage. It is located far away from the city. Recruiting companies have to spend around 3-4 days hiring students from NIT Trichy. This usually puts NIT Trichy off the recruitment list for some companies. Also, the start-up culture isn’t quite developed at NIT Trichy.
Other than these minor disadvantages, NIT Trichy is a fairly good college with decent academics, facilities, and placements.
For an MBA degree, BIMTECH will be the best option among these. It has a clear focus on management education and also has the backing of Birla group. BIMTECH placements are pretty good for MBA. According to the recent placement drive, around 95.28% of students got placement offers and the average CTC received by the students was INR 8.07 LPA.
NIT Trichy is better than the new IITs. It offers better academics, faculty, and facilities. It ranks higher than most new IITs. NIT Trichy placements are excellent. According to the recent placement drive, students receive an average CTC of around INR 6 LPA. While the highest CTC stays around INR 42 LPA. It also has a better alumni base compared to the new IITs.
