IIT Indore Ph.D Admission Criteria

Applicants would be admitted based on their scores in master’s / bachelor’s and entrance exams. Upon selection, Indian applicants would be called for an interview round and/or a screening test.

International applicants would be called for an online written test/interview round based on their scores in TOEFL / IELTS / GATE.

Candidates must keep the following documents ready during the interview process for the document verification process. Admission Categories:

Fellowship Awardee (FA) – An awardee from funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, NBHM, DST. Or a JRF/SRF project staff working in a funded project in IIT Indore.
Teaching Assistantship (TA) – Scholarship under MHRD guidelines.
Sponsored without Institute Scholarship (SW) – Sponsored candidate from R&D organisation or Industry.
Institute Staff (IS) – Staff member of IIT Indore.
Defence (DF) – Personnel serving Armed forces without institute scholarship.

IIT Indore Ph.D Duration

This is a 4 year full-time degree, where the 1st year is all about coursework. The second year is for deciding on research topics and tools for conducting the research. The applicants in the third and fourth year take forth their research and are supposed to submit it by the end of 4th year. Along with thesis submission, there is also a viva conducted by a professor to approve the thesis of the student.

IIT Indore Phd Stipend

The Phd applicants in the first 2 years are offered INR 30,000 per month as part of the stipend for research. While the 3rd and 4th year students are offered INR 34,000 per month. This amount is set by UGC and applicants who qualify for JRF are only offered this amount.

Ques. How are interviews conducted for IIT Indore Phd admission?

Ans. The interviews are being conducted online for IIT Indore Phd admission 2022. The interviews are online for both Indian and international applicants. The Department of Computer Science & Engineering has proposed to conduct interviews via Google Meet.

Ques. Which research areas available for IIT Indore Phd in Civil Engineering?

Ans. There are two types of research areas available in Phd at IIT Indore in Civil Engineering Department are as follows:

Structural Engineering: Concrete Technology, Steel Concrete Composite Structures, Structural health monitoring and reliability.

Ans. Yes, an applicant can apply for two specializations of Phd at IIT Indore. He/she will have to apply separately for each specialization chosen. In this case the applicant will be submitting two applications separately.

Ans. Some departments of IIT Indore offering Phd conduct an additional written test along with the interview round before final verdict on admission. This decision is up to the discretion of the concerned Department. Also not all departments conduct written tests.

Ans. There is a separate application portal for foreign applicants - Common Application Portal. These students have to submit their applications with the required documents and an application fee of USD 30 through RTGS. Ans. No, there is no TA or DA extended by IIT Indore for attending Phd interview round. This year applicants have to appear for the interviews online only because of COVID-19 restrictions in the country.

In these terms, IIT Bhubaneswar has an evident advantage over IIT Gandhinagar. Faculty: Another major criteria are the faculty as they are responsible for publishing papers. In this aspect too Bhubaneswar has an upper hand as it has professors from IIT Kharagpur and Kanpur teaching in various departments in the institute. When you are considering CSE at IIT Indore and IITP, the major difference that comes into play is the student activities and the groups that will help you shape your career than any faculty or curriculum. In my opinion, IIT Indore is much better as compared it IIT Patna. You will also find a really good functional programming group at IIT Indore. It also has a number of ACM ICPC contests that are enriched into you right from your junior year. The senior-junior interaction is also pretty great considering CSE. Here is some more information regarding IIT Indore: Location: IIT Indore is based in the industrial capital of Madhya Pradesh. You will find a number of IT companies including those like TCS and Infosys which are building large campuses in Indore. The food here is really good too. CSE Department: The department at IIT Indore is excellent. It has helped students partake in many worldwide coding competitions and they have qualified thrice for the finals in ACM ICPC. This clearly proves how good the coding culture at the department is. Campus: With an area of 510 acres, you will find that the campus has all the necessary infrastructure and there will be no dearth of necessities there. Co-curricular activities: The student gymkhana here takes care of all the co-curricular activities on campus. IIT Indore is a good choice among the three options for computer science and engineering (CSE). The reasons for the same are as follows. It has a good coding culture and has grown tremendously in this regard. The students proved this in the international ACM ICPC contest. Indore is not only a good city, but it is also a local IT hub with a reasonable number of good companies in the vicinity as compared to Dhanbad or Mandi. The placements are more or less equal for the three institutes. So, it cannot be the deciding factor. The overall growth of the institute is also very impressive. So on a preference, IIT Indore will come first followed by IIT Mandi and ISM Dhanbad.

Reputed companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Samsung, Cognizant, Amazon, Cisco, Flipkart offers jobs to students of these IITs. The CSE branch at IIT Indore is comparable to the CSE branch of older IITs. Also, it is the highest recruiting branch at IIT Indore and more than 98% of students were placed in 2019. According to last year’s placement record, the average package offered at this IIT was 16.06 LPA and the highest package was 43 LPA. IIT Patna has a hundred percent placement in the CSE branch with an average package of 16.76 LPA. The highest package received was around 40 LPA (on-campus). Similarly, IIT Bhubaneswar also holds a record of a hundred percent placement in the CSE branch with an overall average package of 11.44 LPA. The highest domestic CTC offered at this IIT in 2019 was around 39 LPA. The CSE batch at IIT Ropar received an average package of 13.83 LPA, up from 11.5 LPA. The highest package offered was 17.45 LPA in India and the highest international package was $125000 Per annum. IIT Bhubaneshwar has a great campus and infrastructure for each department. The closing rank for the Mechanical Engineering course for IIT-JEE Advanced was around All India rank 4003-12065. IIT Bhubaneswar has 40 seats allotted for the course in total. According to the statistics of the year 2019, among all the students of Mechanical course, 83% were placed with a good package. The top companies which recruit students from the mechanical branch are Capgemini, HCl, IBM, Infosys, Tata Motors, Tata Powers, and so on. The closing rank for the Mechanical course for ISM Dhanbad through IIT-JEE Advanced was around 4719-12869, according to the statistics of 2019. There is a total of 119 seats for the course. The placement record for Mechanical Engineering is not so impressive at this IIT. But, being one of the oldest and reputed colleges it has got a big alumni network. As your choice of the branch is different it’s difficult to choose which will be the better choice. You should choose the branch you are more interested in and the institute which offers the batter program for that branch. Metallurgical engineering is a sub-branch of Mechanical engineering, whereas Civil is a core branch and have more option for higher studies. However, the employment opportunities for both branches are almost the same. NIRF ranked IIT Bhubaneswar 17th in the engineering category. The department of Civil Engineering, the Scchool of Infrastructure at IIT Bhubaneswar have 8 laboratories well-equipped with modern facilities to carry out academic projects and research works. In 2019 the JEE Advanced closing cutoff for Civil Engineering was 7054-14844. According to the placement statistics, 89% of civil engineering students got placements in 2019. The average package for civil engineering was INR 11.51 LPA. Core companies that visited the campus for employing Civil Engineering students were HPCL, IOCL, L&T. IIT Indore is ranked at 13th place in NIRF 2019. The institute offers a good Metallurgical Engineering program with decent placement.
