Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) Ranchi, offers UG and PG level courses in Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Forestry streams. In addition, it also offers research courses in a number of subjects. The programs of education and research are carried out through 5 colleges and 35 departments. It provides Bachelor’s degree with honours for 6 subjects, whereas for the PG courses, it offers 35 subjects belonging to Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, and Forestry streams.
Admission to BAU Ranchi is done on the basis of Entrance Examination. Application process generally starts in the month of July every year and goes up to September.
BAU Ranchi provides B.Sc (H) in Agricultural and Forestry programmes with different specializations. The university also offers Honours courses in Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry as well.
Students with science background with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) can opt for any particular major subject from Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Forestry, while students with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) can apply only for agriculture and forestry. The total number of seats present for B.Sc (H) Agriculture is 50. For B.Sc (H) Forestry the university has a total of 26 seats across the four subjects it offers.
15% of total seats are filled by a Combined Competitive Entrance Examination conducted by I.C.A.R. V.C.I. at all India level and 85% of the total seats are filled by Jharkhand Combined Competitive Entrance Examination Board, Ranchi.

The University offers courses leading to M.Sc. (Ag.), M.V.Sc. and M.Sc. (Forestry), M.Tech and MBA degree in various disciplines of Agriculture, Veterinary Science, and Forestry. There are altogether 35 post-graduate departments. The university offers M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology, M.Tech. Agril. Engineering and MBA (agribusiness).
The admission to different Post Graduate programs with respect to Agriculture, Forestry, Veterinary Science, Agril. Engineering and Biotechnology is done on the basis of Entrance examination. Reservation roster as decided by Govt. of Jharkhand is followed in P.G. admission. The College of Biotechnology offers Master’s Programme only.

Apart from the eligibility criteria, students have to qualify in the entrance examination conducted by the BAU. The exam shall have one question paper consisting of 200 MCQs with four options.
For MBA program, selection will be made on the basis of score obtained in the Written Test, Group Discussion followed by an Interview. Duration of the test will be 2 hours & 30 minutes with 200 MCQs. The pattern of the written test is given below:
