The National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) is one of the best institutes that are dedicated towards the development of the dairy research. The National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal was originally started as Imperial Institute of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in 1923 at Bangalore. It was expanded and renamed as Imperial Dairy Institute in 1936 and was known as National Dairy Research Institute after independence in 1947.
The huge 560 ha campus of the Institute is self sufficient in housing laboratories, offices, hostels, hospital, residential complexes, auditorium etc. Various laboratories of the Institute are equipped with the state-of-the-art analytical instruments for carrying out research in most advanced areas of Molecular Biology, Cell Culture, Fermentation Technology, Protein Chemistry, Nutritional Studies, Food Technology, Microbiology, Micro Element Analysis, etc. International students are also there the University continues to attract them for countries like Nepal, Iraq, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Egypt Holland, Mauritius, Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Iran.
The Institute possesses an elite herd of over 1600 dairy animals including cattle, buffaloes and goats which caters to breed improvement projects and other research activities.
Scholarships :
- Scholarship being awarded by Govt. of India/ICAR/Alumni Association/Dairy Industry etc. shall be offered to the students on the basis of merit. This provision shall be utilized to assist as many students as possible who have good academic record and who are making diligent efforts to pursue higher education.
- The award shall be made by the Joint Director of the Institute on the recommendation of the Standing Committee, which shall take into consideration the merit of each student.
- The first year students shall be awarded scholarship on the basis of the merit assigned in Entrance Examination and Second, Third & Fourth year students on the basis of their merit of the previous year examination.
- In case students secure equal marks/SGPA/CGPA, their previous year’s result shall be taken into account for determining their inter-se-merit for the purpose. However, in respect of second year students, merit assigned in the entrance examination shall be taken into consideration.
