Course Curriculum Overview:

1. Class Size and Student Strength: Students per Class: Typically, around 60 to 80 students are seated in a single class. Total Student Strength: For B.Tech, each specialization (like Computer Science or Electronics) has about 200-300 students across all sections. The entire batch strength for B.Tech across different specializations can go up to 1,000-1,500 students. 2. Gender Ratio: Girls to Boys Ratio: For B.Tech, the ratio is typically skewed towards boys, with around 20-30% girls in most branches. For the college overall, the ratio varies slightly depending on the course, but in engineering, boys are the majority. 3. Cultural Diversity: The cultural diversity in the class is somewhat limited. The majority of students are from Delhi NCR and nearby states like Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. There are a few students from distant states like Rajasthan, Bihar, and Himachal Pradesh, but out-of-state representation is not as high as in national institutes like NITs or IITs. 4. Peer Group and Peer Learning: The peer group is a mixed bag. While many students are genuinely interested in learning and contribute to classroom discussions, there is also a significant portion that is focused on just passing the exams. Peer Learning: It happens, but mostly outside the classroom. Students collaborate on projects and assignments, and peer learning plays a crucial role during exam preparation when group study sessions are common. 5. Marks for Class Participation: There aren’t any official marks for class participation. However, professors may give some weightage to students who actively participate or ask insightful questions, but this is rare and informal. 6. Class Attendance for Learning: Genuine Attendance: While a handful of students attend classes to actually learn, many are there primarily to meet the attendance requirement. The quality of lectures can be inconsistent, which often leads students to rely more on self-study, external resources, or coaching.

Placement Experience:

1. Placement Timeline: Final placements typically start in late January or early February and continue until the end of March. The process usually takes about two to three months to complete. 2. Placement Success Rate: While most students do get placed, about 10-15% may remain unplaced during final placements. To assist those unplaced, the college offers additional workshops, personalized mentoring, and access to companies that may not participate in the main placement drive. 3. CTC Offered: Average CTC: Approximately ₹6-8 LPA. Highest CTC: Can reach up to ₹20 LPA, especially from leading consulting and tech firms. Lowest CTC: Some students may accept offers around ₹3-4 LPA, particularly in smaller companies or startups. 4. Preferred Companies: Most preferred companies include TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and various consulting firms like Deloitte and Accenture. The average CTC from these companies typically ranges from ₹6-10 LPA. 5. Bulk Hiring Companies: Companies like Cognizant, TCS, and Wipro are known for bulk hiring. These companies generally offer average CTCs of around ₹6-8 LPA. 6. Role of the Placement Committee: The placement committee is responsible for coordinating the placement process, inviting companies, conducting mock interviews, and providing guidance to students. While the process is generally transparent, some students feel that it could be improved, particularly regarding information sharing about job roles and company profiles. Overall, transparency is moderate but could benefit from clearer communication.

It’s normal for you to get confused between DU and IPU. Both are well-reputed universities with high cutoffs. Choosing one of them can be made easy if you go through these differences:

  1. Colleges: DU colleges are famous for their high cutoffs. If you have scored 97 and above you will surely get admission to an A-grade college. But anything below 97 (even a 95) will send you to a B-grade college. So it’s better to study in an A-grade college at IPU than in a B-grade college of DU.

  2. Admission criteria: At DU, admissions are based on board exams, whereas at IPU you will have to give a CET (Common Entrance Test).

  3. Internships: All the universities recommend internships but IPU has made it compulsory. These internships not only build your CV but might also give you full-time jobs.

  4. Freelancing: At IPU most students prefer freelancing or part-time jobs to support their profession. The classes end early around 1 pm. Whereas in DU the timings of the classes vary a lot due to which you cannot spare time for freelancing much.

  5. Fees: Pursuing a professional course at IPU will cost you more than that at DU. This is because of its excellent infrastructure and facilities.

  6. Specialisation: DU is well known for its theoretical subjects like English, History, and Geography. Whereas IPU specializes in vocational courses like B. Tech, Journalism and Mass Communication, BBA, BCA, and MBA.

These points stand to prove that IPU is a better option if you are pursuing a professional course.

Choose MSIT if you want to prioritize degree value over cost. Otherwise, go with SRM. MSIT CSE placements are excellent, but if you live in a politically neutral environment with large campuses, consider SRM, Chennai.

Technical societies, such as IEEE, are very active, and if you are fortunate enough to be a part of them, it is better for you in terms of placement and 'knowledge building.

If you are serious about expanding your knowledge, there are a few amazing teachers as well as seniors who can assist and guide you. It is entirely up to you to make the most of the available opportunities.

Having friends who study in both colleges, I can assure you that, there is no comparison of Sharda University with any IPU colleges unless it is low rated.

  • If you are taking your studies seriously you should consider entering colleges affiliated with IP University.
  • But Sharda University offers amazing placement and internship opportunities as they have good tie-ups with few top companies.
  • You can do good even at Sharda University if you are good at self-study and can get motivated on your own.
  • The positive side of Sharda University is that it has a great crowd.

There are alumni at Sharda University who are unemployed. Even a number of graduate students from IPU are still searching for jobs. There are students at both of these universities who have reached heights in technological fields.

If you want a strong core teaching and complete study environment, go for IPU. If you are happy with your studies and want to have a bit of a relaxed college life Sharda University is your spot.

One of my friends had recently joined Thapar University and here are some of the facts about it that make it stand out among others.

  • One of the best streams to pursue at Thapar University is CSE.
  • The placements at Thapar are really good and most of the CSE students get placed.
  • Some teachers are not very good with their teaching methods. One of the best professors at Thapar is Mannek sir, he is a mechanics teacher.
  • One of the best things you will encounter while studying at Thapar University is the senior mentors. They are like siblings and help you with everything.
  • The infrastructure is not very well developed yet, there are few buildings with air conditioning but unfortunately not all buildings.
  • There is various student societies present which you can also join.
Categories Thapar University
Course Fee 13.23 lakhs
Highest CTC 16 LPA
Average CTC 8 LPA
Recruiting Companies Google, JP Morgan, Amazon, Capgemini, etc.

If you are getting your desired branch then only you should join this institute as you also have to pay a hefty amount of fees.

According to the reviews online, the majority of the students said it is not a good option to pursue MBA from IP University, Delhi.

Here are some reasons why:

  • More focus is given on theoretical preparation than the practicals. Students often complain about the incomplete training.
  • If you wish to learn about your course, it will not provide you with the satisfaction. Because mostly students tend to mug up last year’s questions and answer books.
  • Scoring is easy even if you study only 2-4 days before the exam.
  • The same 10-15 questions are repeated every year.
  • If you want to build yourself, you mostly have to do it all on your own, because the college won't make much effort.
  • Placements here are average. Only the top 10 students are usually given access to sit for the placements.

Therefore a lot of students do not get the proper opportunities to get a job. If you are willing to work on your own and are confident enough, then only opt for IP University, Delhi.

One of my friends studied at YMCA while my sister studied at IPU. I can share their experiences and let's see who won:

  • YMCA receives a lot of good companies each year.
  • IPU receives IT firms most often with a package of INR 3.25 LPA. The only highlight of IPU is Microsoft.
  • As a CS or IT, you will find it to your liking. In YMCA Amazon, Maruti, Adobe, Snapdeal, Yamaha, and many more reputed companies come to hire B.Tech graduates.

Placement is what matters to most, however, it's not the only parameter of comparison but because YMCA tops in placements which is an essential factor nevertheless, it wins!
