You can get any branch at KJ Somaiya with 140 in MH CET 2022, if you have Gujrati minority. But if you are a general category student, getting branches like CSE/IT will be difficult with 140 scores. These are among the most opted branches and KJ Somaiya Cutoff remains above 150-160 for CSE/IT (general category).

Comparing the mechanical branches of SPCE and VJTI, VJTI is the definite winner among the two, considering almost all factors like branding, faculty, peers, placement, etc. Mechanical Engineering is one of the best branches of VJTI.

The points below give a brief overview of VJTI and state several reasons supporting the choice.

  • The brand name of VJTI is much more reputed than SPCE and is considered to be a badge for engineering aspirants. VJTI is much more known to foreign universities and institutes than SPCE.
  • The average IQ of students from VJTI is much more than that of SPCE, as evident from students’ reviews of the two institutes. Most likely, students in SPCE have a lower thinking ability than that of VJIT.
  • In VJTI, there are clubs namely SAE, Inferno, SRA engaged in a lot of technical, cultural, and social interactive activities among students.
  • Mechanical Engineering of VJIT has some of the best teachers in the institute. Some of them, for example, Dr. Tendolkar, Dr. Deshpande, Dr. Kulkarni, etc, have exceptional skills in teaching their respective fields.
  • In VJTI, there are very few teachers who are not quite good. But, in SPCE, the mechanical engineering branch actually lacks a sufficient number of good teachers, some of whose lectures are sometimes confusing.
  • As usual, VJTI tops in terms of placement of the two institutes by a high margin. Most companies offering jobs in Mechanical Engineering at VJTI offer excellent packages to students. In SPCE Mechanical Engineering, the placement scenario is average, with a lesser overall placement percentage.

Therefore, SPCE is in no way comparable to VJTI, the latter being a much better institute in terms of all considerable factors.

One of my friends studied at Sardar College of Engineering. It has only 3 branches namely Mechanical, Civil and Electrical. According to him, this helps as it gets more focused for the administration to work with the students and give them the best to offer.

  • The faculties are good and hardworking with experience in their respective fields both practical and theoretical aspects of the topics.
  • When it comes to core subjects of engineering the faculty really is helpful and cooperative.
  • Lectures happen regularly and are planned ahead of time so that you can come prepared for them.
  • Attending lectures is compulsory and you can be put under the defaulters’ list if you miss it.
  • Cultural and technical fests are regularly organized so you get to meet outsiders and can compete to increase the capacity.
  • Sports fests are also organized.

My friend used to be a student of Sardar Patel College of Engineering, Mumbai. According to her, the answer to your question depends on a lot of factors. They can be your category of reservation and the branch you aspire to pursue.

If you want to have chances of being considered for admission, your percentage should be above 90%. The cutoff changes every year, though.

My friend got admission in the second year after her diploma percentage was 90%. She was in the OBC category. For getting admission in the SPCE for the electrical stream without any reservations, securing a percentage of 88% to 89% in your diploma course in your final year is mandatory.

Cutoffs for admission can vary from year to year and are often influenced by factors such as the number of applicants, the quality of the applicant pool, and the availability of seats.

It's important to note that admission to engineering colleges in India is typically based on an entrance exam such as JEE Main or other state-level exams. These exams serve as a primary factor in determining the cutoff for admission to specific programs.

It would be recommended to check the official website of SPEC, as well as the websites of the organizations responsible for administering entrance exams in India, for the most up-to-date information on admission cutoffs and requirements for the CSE program at SPEC.

If we compare these colleges based only on brand value and reputation, then COEP is way ahead of SPCE.

But you should prioritize your branch of choice while choosing an institute. Civil and Mechanical engineering, both these are core branches of engineering and have their advantages and disadvantages. Mechanical Engineering will give you exposure to a variety of branches like Automobile, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Thermal, etc. If you are genuinely interested in Mechanical Engineering, you can go to Sardar Patel College of Engineering. They have a good faculty base for the branch.

If you are flexible regarding your branch choice, you can choose COEP Civil. The institute offers a branch change option after completion of the first year too.

My friend from school used to be a student of Sardar Patel College of Engineering and he had an amazing time there as a student.

  • The highly qualified faculty members teach all the subjects to the students with a lot of enthusiasm and care. The same can be said about the practical classes.
  • Sardar Patel College of Engineering is an autonomous college and the cost of studying is also considerably less. Students also enjoy hostel facilities in the college. The college also has a decent record of placements.
  • The syllabus in all the branches of the college is the same as that of the GATE syllabus. So, the college can help you a lot in the preparation for the GATE exams if you have plans to appear for the same.
  • The highest package offered by Sardar Patel College of Engineering as of 2021 is INR 5.5 LPA.

Hope this helps.
