Faculties are well educated and their teaching methods are well good. There is good communication between the faculties and the students. Accepting the semester exam result 2 mid sem exam having a gap of 1 month and it is if you study hard then we can easily pass in exams.

I have chosen the course because in recent times the field of information and technology jobs has been expanding and is capable of sustaining a better future. It also teaches alot about the engineering field and management of time. The faculty-to-student ratio in our college is 5:100. The faculty is highly qualified. They are well-experienced teachers who have post-graduated(M.TECH) from government engineering colleges such as NIT and IITs.They teach in a very good manner by describing every topic by board and through powerpoint presentations. The term exams are held every 2 months and semester exams are after every 6 months the question difficulty level in term exams is standard and we can easily pass it by learning the notes and attending classes.

I had a keen interest in Computer Science and Btech is a valuable course in our country. I wanted to leverage and upskill my venture of becoming a software engineer so I decided then and only that I would be a software developer/engineer. The student ratio is this college is a huge number but in terms of placement or during placement pools there are numerous companies who are approaching our college in order to grab young talented minds of our college. Faculty is well suited for our institution because most of them hold a Ph.D. degree in their respective domain and I feel that my embrace of their teaching is propelling my mindset and my urge to become a software developer. Our faculty section is well suited for our college. There's no doubt about it. Term exams are on time. We have two term exams:- mid-term I and mid-term II. They are moderately easy to pass but the real semester exams are definitely hard to get the marks out of the teacher's grip.

This college can provide you with a good environment for studies and encourages you to learn something new. The facilities are good, this college has enough facilities to control the system of teaching and management. Many of the facilities come from a well-known university and their teaching methods are very good this college can provide audio-visual methods of studies with proper examples and the facilities are too much experienced. This college followed the proper schedule of an academic calendar of its own and the exam was tough to pass but if the student followed every class lecture then it was not tough enough.

IEM and UEM are under the same group of management, which is IEM group. Here are some of the differences between the two institutes.

  • IEM follows the syllabus of MAKAUT. UEM follows its own syllabus as it is autonomous. However, around 80% of the syllabus is similar to MAKAUT.
  • IEM takes admission through WEJEE and the required cutoff is high. Getting admission at UEM is comparably easier. It takes admission through IEMJEE.
  • Comparably, IEM has a better placement record. IEM Kolkata average package is INR 4 LPA.

As a student of UEM, if you want to do an MS or pursue higher studies abroad, you will get a recommendation letter from IEM.

One of my cousins studied at UEM. He said that there is no such guarantee of placement. If you aspire to be placed, you will need to develop proper skills, have proper training, and then be assured of placement.

The points below are some of the key factors essential for placement, and the placement status of UEM Kolkata.

  • You should have a lot of potential and choosing the right institute will provide training and opportunities.
  • Attaining skills are most important.
  • UEM is a new institute and is not as good as IEM Kolkata.
  • For management courses, BIBS Kolkata is offering a good enough curriculum and placement. But, there is no guarantee of placement.

According to the advertisements of IEM, they have provided chances of placement to every student in at least one company. But, being in the ads, there are chances that it is not the correct statistics.

Therefore, hard work and finding the institute with a proper course, placement training, exposure, and placement opportunities is what you need to do to increase the chances of placement in some reputed company.

My elder brother is an alumnus of UEM Kolkata. The timings are not exactly flexible.

  1. The first shift takes place from 9:20 AM to 4:00 PM. On any two days of the week, the class schedule will be from 9:15 AM to 5:45 PM.
  2. Two recesses are also included in the schedule.
  3. The morning assembly is held from 9:00 AM to 9:20 AM.
  4. The second shift is from 12:15 PM to 5:45 PM.

You can also consult for choosing one shift in case you are not comfortable with the other shift. A lot of students managed to get their shifts changed so take it with a grain of salt.

The second shift is the one where my brother was because there would be no stress of being late for class, less tension for submission of assignments. The only thing that will “tire” you will be the excursions.

The institute offers commendable infrastructural facilities and quality education to the students which is why so many students choose this college for pursuing engineering and management.

I have a few friends who are alumni of UEM, Rajarhat and they don’t recommend the institute.

  • UEM mostly gives admission through management quota. The college takes admission with WBJEE scores up to 80,000.
  • Most of the students get placement in IT companies as it is set up by the IEM group. The average CTC of the college is around 4 LPA

But IEM has its own college in Kolkata which is far more reputed than UEM. UEM Jaipur campus is also great for engineering. UEM Kolkata does have the potential to become as good as the Jaipur campus with time. But as of now, it is not that great.

My brother studied in IEM Kolkata and firstly, it is a reputed college in West Bengal, even more than Jadavpur and IIEST Shibpur. The placement rate at IEM is about 80%-90%. On the other hand, UEM is a regular engineering college with only a few defining features. Its fame is because of the fact that it was established by the IEM trust.

  • However, if you compare UEM with IEM then, IEM wins on the faculty quality and placement scenario. At IEM, the teachers are friendly and enthusiastic.
  • IEM also has a limited number of seats that are filled based on the rank in WBJEE. It does not have a management quota.
  • UEM was established recently, so it is a relatively new private university and is the third of the three engineering institutions founded by the IEM-UEM Group.
  • UEM is a much more disciplined institution, quiet more than IEM.

If you're keen on choosing between these two, I'd suggest you consider the student intake because if the number is lesser then it's better. For this, you can ask alumni or someone currently studying there. Some students also have a negative view of IEM. The IT department is not as good because my brother's friend is there and claims that the professors do not know even the basics of the program.

So, be very refined in your research before choosing.

You do not have to give WBJEE to take admission to UEM Kolkata. You can get admission to UEM Kolkata through the IEMJEE entrance examination but UEM Kolkata does not take students from WBJEE counseling.

You can also try for admission through WBJEE and JEE Main ranks. In that case, you need to talk to the admission office of UEM. You can not get admission in UEM through WBJEE or JEE Main counseling.

UEM Kolkata is ranked as one of the best engineering institutes because of its highly qualified faculty, sprawling infrastructure, and top-class education with international exposure.

According to the experience of one of my friends at UEM Kolkata, the campus is one of the favorite places. When it comes to the environment inside the campus that is one of the main key factors to produce quality students.

  1. The classes are conducted regularly with utmost sincerity and if they are suspended due to some reasons extra classes are conducted on Saturdays to fulfill the loss. Since there is a biometric system for attendance, no student can bunk the classes.
  2. CCTV cameras are installed in every classroom that monitors the students for the entire day due to which the campus is a completely ragging-free area.
  3. There is an anti-ragging cell and if anyone is caught ragging others he/she gets rusticated immediately. There is a privilege of choosing your faculty as every student is given a faculty feedback form.
  4. 80% attendance is mandatory for all otherwise you will not be allowed to give examinations.
  5. It is a safe place for girls, and drinking or smoking is completely prohibited in the campus area.
  6. There is a culture of maintaining and following complete discipline on the campus. No one is allowed to enter the college premises after 9 AM sharp.

Lastly, we can say that UEM, Kolkata is a place that not only provides quality education but at the same time grooms the overall personality of a child that helps him/her in the future.

The overall fee structure in UEM Kolkata keeps changing. But, there are no major modifications to it over the last few years.

  • For the 2016-20 batches, the fee per semester was Rs. 60,000. Therefore, the total fee would be Rs. 1.2 Lakhs annual fees.
  • During admission, you will need to pay an additional admission fee of Rs. 12,000. So, the first-semester fee is Rs. 72,000 combined together, which the students need to pay before their admission to the institute.
  • There is an examination fee of Rs. 1000, which needs to be paid before semester exams. For the first semester, the exam fee is Rs. 1400.
  • UEM organizes several technical and professional workshops, and almost all of them are paid. The fee for such workshops varies from Rs. 500-1500, depending on the type and duration of the workshop. But, these are entirely optional. The management will not force you to participate.
  • Previously, the 2015-19 batches had a semester fee of Rs. 37,000, and so Rs. 74,000 annually. All other fees, i.e.-exam fees, workshop fees, etc, were the same for those batches too.

For more classified details regarding the present fee structure, you can contact the IEM/UEM group via phone calls. The numbers are available on their website.

Both the institutes, Budge Budge Institute of Technology and UEM Kolkata, are average institutes. At present times, engineering is somewhat an overrated course, if studied from an average institute.

The points below give a brief overview of the present conditions of engineering from this kind of institute.

  • In engineering, only premier institutes like IITs, NITs, BITS, and other top regional institutes provide effective academics and placement. Other than those, a good job is a myth in most cases.
  • There is a lot of shrink in opportunities after engineering with time. Companies are reducing the number of intakes, mostly in core sectors. So, it is better to think well and then take admission, and obviously in a stream that has some placement in it.
  • Neither of the institutes mentioned in the question is very good in engineering studies. So, you should not expect a decent job from these institutes.

I have a few friends at the Haldia Institute of Technology and based on what I heard from them, I will suggest you to look for other options. Having a college campus in Kolkata will be advantageous for you.

You can get IT in Techno India salt-lake main campus. If you don’t get Techno you can go for CSE in B.P. Poddar, RCC or St. Thomas, or any other college. Follow previous year trends of opening and closing ranks of the college and make a choice accordingly.

Choosing the University of Engineering and Management (UEM), Kolkata can be risky because it is newly established. Even though it is under the banner of IEM, you can’t be certain about placements. Going by the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered at the institute is 4 LPA.
