IIT Kharagpur Admissions 2023 are over now. The college will declare result and dispatch EMBA offers on June 20. Waitlisted candidates will be sent offer letters on June 30, 2023.

IIT Kharagpur Executive MBA, also known as the EMBA, is a special three-year curriculum for working executives that the institution launched in 2010. The IIT Kharagpur campus in Kolkata is where this program is held. Students who complete this program are awarded the IIT Kharagpur Master of Business Administration degree.

Objectives of IIT Kharagpur EMBA

With the ever-increasing pace of knowledge creation and knowledge obsolescence, a professional can no longer presume to be a high achiever over his/her entire career, banking only upon his/ her initial professional qualification.
The EMBA Programme focuses on general management and is therefore suitable for a wide variety of sectors. Students are given the opportunity to choose courses from a wide range of electives in a variety of areas.

IIT Kharagpur EMBA Program Highlights

The Highlights of IIT Kharagpur EMBA are as Follows:

3-year program, divided into 12 terms
9 teaching terms and 3 project terms
term of 9 weeks each
Three weekends of Classes and one weekend-off
Around 15 hours of classes on a weekend of Saturdays and Sundays
95 credits for EMBA balanced across theory and projects
Theory Papers: 80 credits
Management Project: 15 credits. Management Project to be conducted at the company where the student is employed or any other location, with mandatory progress presentations every term, spread over Terms X, XI & XII.

IIT Kharagpur EMBA Eligibility Criteria

The executives applying for this program must have at least 3 years of experience (as of 31st July 2023) and a 1st class bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology or a 1st class Masters's degree in Science, Economics, or Commerce (with Mathematics or Statistics at the Bachelor's degree level), with the following criteria:

GE/NC-OBC/EWS: Minimum of 60% marks. (OR CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale)
SC/ST/PwD: Minimum of 55% marks. (OR CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale)
For both the above cases, if the CGPA is on a different scale than 10.0 the eligibility of the candidates will be calculated corresponding to the equivalence stated above.
Admission of reserved category candidates will be as per Government of India rules.
The CGPA will not be converted into percentage marks if the degree awarding Institute provides marks in the CGPA system. Their admission will be based on the CGPA awarded in the transcript.

IIT Kharagpur EMBA Selection Criteria

Selection is through a written examination and interview at Kolkata. Reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates will be as per the GOI rules applicable to IIT Kharagpur.

Ques.Will the Candidates have access to an online database and library?

Candidates will have access to the database, library, and all other academic facilities of IIT Kharagpur. However, you will have very limited / nil access to some of the facilities in off-campus locations where the programs are being conducted. All efforts will be made to provide desirable facilities in order to enhance learning. You will also have access to Kampus Konnect, the online private social network that is used by students of the regular MBA program.

Ques.Does the program emphasize group learning? How will it be operationalized?

Ans.Group learning is an essential component of MBA education. This will be course-specific and concerned instructors will design the necessary modalities for the same. Kampus Konnect may be used to facilitate group learning for students and faculty who may not be able to meet physically on a regular basis.

Ques.What would be the minimum attendance requirement?

Ans.One of the major components of learning in the MBA program is through class participation, interaction with fellow participants, etc. Accordingly, a high level of attendance is mandated in MBA programs. However, some relaxation can be made to take care of exigencies on case to case basis. IIT Kharagpur rules for students specify 100% attendance, with 12 days of Casual leave per year with prior permission, 10 days of medical leave.

Ques.Will the batch be taught by the IIT Kharagpur faculty?

Ans.IT Kharagpur faculty would take up most of the teaching with support from teachers of reputed Business schools. Some senior practicing managers will also take up specialized courses.

The institute offers good placement opportunities in the Operations domain. During VGSoM IIT Kharagpur placements 2021, the Operations sector had the second-highest placement rate, i.e. 20%. The average CTC for the batch was INR 18.44 LPA.

Almost all IITs are excellent engineering colleges providing the best education and amenities. Yet there might be some comparisons that can be drawn based on common aspects like choice, infrastructure, and geographical location. Eventually, it’s a matter of your preferences and not the institute's worth. For example, if you are someone who considers Academics the most important factor to determine the credibility of an institute, then IIT Kanpur is the best choice for you. It has the toughest grading system and the entire focus is on studies. So if you are excellent in academics, you will remain at the top here. Both institutes face a certain level of locational disadvantage but IIT Kanpur is still slightly better in this aspect.

One of my friends had the absolute delight to appear for the PGDBA interview conducted by a multifaceted panel. He shared his interview experience which might help you a bit. Before the interview began, he was taken for a Verification Round wherein, every detail of academics scores or other profile-related information was cross-checked on the IIMs format. Once they received an IIM-verified document they were escorted to the interview venue. The interview room had 3 panels; one from each institute obviously. They asked for his brief introduction first. On hearing about his interest in Data Analytics, panelists probed him further with questions like What is Data Analytics Difference between analytics and analysis Contemporary Data analytics and ML They further asked him why he chose Analytics. He told them that the increasing demand for the same in Europe and China made him realize how much India lacks in this aspect and thus he wanted to invest his efforts in Data Analytics. Next, he was tested on his knowledge of Statistics and Mathematics with questions like Difference between mean, mode, Media Skewness Relationship of mean, mode, and median in a positive Skew graph Hypothesis Testing What is Anova The next panelist took the reins and gave him a problem from SPC quality control. He asked him how do you know that his process in electric bulb making is as per customer Norma and is statistically controlled. My friend was able to answer most of the questions confidently and even solved this problem through charts. Lastly, he was asked about his extracurricular activities and hobbies. The discussion ended with him asking about GST and the difference between GST and previous tax. Even though he gave a common answer, he managed to convert the interview.

ISI Kolkata is the best option for MSc in Maths, followed by IISc. IIT KGP is reputed in the technology domain, but for core science subjects, it’s not a good option. If you are interested to pursue pure Mathematics, choosing ISI is the best option among these. It specializes in the field. You will get better career opportunities and exposure in the field.

The competition to get into NLSIU is very high due to the merit-based system and they have equally impressive placements. IIT Kharagpur, on the other hand, has a very high number of graduates each year, but they do not get offers as high as NLSIU. But you should be considering which of these colleges would add more value to you. Even if you choose to do an LLB from IIT Kharagpur, you should know that it is the first premier institute for engineering. Whereas NLSIU is one of the best universities in the country for law. Do not choose a college just because it has better placement, instead focus on which college is better for your career in law. A degree from NLSIU would always hold a better position than a degree in Law from an IIT. There are so many people that drop out of college just because they failed to research better about their career path and what was good for them.

You should choose IMT-G for an MBA in Marketing. It offers better placement. More recruiting companies visit the campus placement of IMT. During the 2022 placement drive, more than 130 recruiters took part in the campus placement. Amazon, Adani Wilmar, Cisco, etc. are among the major recruiters to take part in the placement drive. IMT Ghaziabad placements also offer better salary packages. For Marketing, the average CTC is around INR 1.92 LPA.

My brother is doing his PGDBA from IIT KGP and he was rather afraid of programming and coding when he started the course. If you're stuck in the same situation, then my only advice is to enroll in the course with an open mind and a desire to learn to program if you don't already know-how. Coding Experience: There is always a first time of everything. Now there are numerous MOOCs available online that can assist you in taking the initial step. The discipline of analytics (technical side) necessitates solid coding abilities, and therefore if you want to pursue a career in analytics, you should start learning the necessary skills now. Work Experience: It is not necessary to have prior work experience to enroll in the course. However, relevant analytical experience aids in extracting greater value from the course. According to your assessment of your interests, you have a preference for fields involving mathematics and statistics. Analytical science is an excellent fit in that regard. I would recommend that you go into MOOCs like Coursera, audacity, and your willingness to learn more about this field. You will obtain a better understanding of the field and would be able to decide if this is a good fit for you or not.
