I have a few friends from Sastra University. According to them, college life at Sastra is good. It offers decent academic facilities. Here are some of the things that you need to know about the institute.
Overall, you will have good experiences at Sastra University.
I have a few friends who attended SASTRA University. According to them, there are no such donation seats available. The admission process is completely based on merit. It is one of the few private universities that take admission through JEE Mains score. The counseling process is transparent and due to high competition, getting admission at the university can be tough.
The only way to join SASTRA University without merit-based admission is through the NRI quota. However, the number of seats is limited. You will need to register for it. The fees will be different too.
Here are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at SASTRA University.
Make sure you score well in your first semester.
Between Sastra University and IIIT Sri City Sastra University is definitely the better choice. It has an amazing curriculum, placement records, and research facilities. The brand name is a plus point too. IIIT Sri City, being a new institute, has a huge task ahead to level up and compete with other institutions. Their facilities and the faculty are not up to the mark of Sastra University.
The branch which you are interested in also plays a major role in selecting what is best for you. If you are inclined towards Biological Sciences, Sastra is perfect for you. Their Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, and Medical Nanotechnology branches are top-notch and they even have higher placement opportunities in CS and mechanical branches.

Sastra University is pretty strict when compared with IIIT Sri City. But you will have more learning opportunities at Sastra.
Based on various parameters like salary packages, peer group, etc. NITs are definitely better than SASTRA.
However, SASTRA is also a reputed university, especially if we talk about research facilities. It has a great research infrastructure. The faculties are also good. Many of them are IIT or NIT alumni. The faculty research outcome of SATRA is similar to that of NIT Trichy, in terms of citation.
Alumni of SASTRA are pursuing their studies in reputed universities around the world like MIT, Caltech, Harvard, etc.
Yes, CGPA at SASTRA does matter, especially if you have low CGPA. It will affect your placement and as well as other things. But if you are proficient in programming then you can get into companies like Google without CGPA being a problem. If you have a low GPA, you will miss out on the following things.
Apart from these above reasons, GPA matters for other reasons too. While hiring, companies look at your GPA, not to evaluate how much you know. Rather they want to how responsible and committed you are.
Sastra University is one of the most reputed institutes in South India, especially for engineering. In 2020, it was ranked 50 for university and 38 for B.Tech by NIRF. I have a few friends from Sastra University.

Sastra follows a GPA system. Having a decent GPA can help you get scholarships and even a chance to sit for placement in reputed companies. If you have a GPA of around 8.5, you can sit for companies like Amazon, Cypress, etc. Although most companies allow students with a 7.5 CGPA to sit for placements.
