The detailed eligibility for M.Phil. and PhD program respectively is given below:

For M.Phil. Full-Time Candidates:

• Must possess a Master’s degree in the concerned or related discipline or any other qualification recognized as equivalent with 55% marks or above. (5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates)
• Possess a PG degree with 17 years of total duration of study alone are eligible for admission to the M. Phil., programme.
• The ones holding professional degrees such as M. E., and M. Tech., and PG degree in Medicine, Law, Agriculture and similar other professional courses are not eligible for admission to the M.Phil., programmes of the University.
• The ones working as Full-time Research Fellows/Technical Assistants/Research Assistants in time-bound Research schemes of one-year duration or more in University Departments/Research Departments of Affiliated Colleges/Recognized Research Institutions.

For M.Phil. Part-Time Candidates:

• Any person employed in any concern/ organization/ institution/ R & D Centers/Laboratories situated within Tamil Nadu or Research Institutions recognized by Bharathiar University with a minimum of 55% of marks in the Master’s degree. Such candidates shall produce a No objection certificate and Service Certificate from the Employer or Head of the Institution (in case of Educational Institutions)
• The ones teaching in colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University.

Bharathiar University M.Phil. and Ph.D. Admission Process

The University shall shortlist the candidates through a two-stage process- an entrance test, called Common Eligibility Test (CET), and an Interview.

The qualifying examinations marks converted to 50 Marks Common Entrance Test: 35 Marks Interview: 15 Marks Total: 100 marks

Entrance Exam Pattern:

The entrance test will be based around subjects studied in the course study at the PG level by the candidate. Here are details of the entrance test:

• There will be 50 questions in total, all the question will be of objective type (MCQ)
• Maximum Marks: 35 (50x0.7=35)
• Time Duration: 1.30 hours

Exemption from the written test:

• M.Phil. degree holders need not appear for the common entrance test, however, they will be required to appear for the interview.
• UGC/ CSIR-JRF NET/ SLET/ GATE/ Teacher fellowship holders/ Scientist working in DRDO/ faculty of Air Force Administrative College/foreign candidates need not appear for the entrance test. Such candidates shall be directly admitted to the doctoral program through interviews.

The qualifying examinations marks converted to 50 Marks UGC/ CSIR-JRF NET/ SLET/ GATE: 35 Marks Interview: 15 Marks Total: 100 marks

Note: However, for the Scientist working in DRDO/ faculty of Air Force Administrative College/ foreign candidates the department should conduct entrance test and interview to assess the knowledge of the concerned discipline.

Bharathiar University M.Phil. and Ph.D. Application Procedure

• The application form for M.Phil./Ph.D. programs at Bharathiar University can be downloaded from the University’s official website.
• After downloading the form, a candidate needs to fill the form carefully and send it to the University with the necessary enclosures.
• The application form will comprise of two copies.
• Candidate must ensure that they fill the same information in both copies of the form.

• The cost of the Application form is INR. 50/-
• Fees for each paper INR. 400/-
• Cost of Mark Statement INR.150/-

Those applicants who are eligible to appear for the M.Phil. examinations for the first time shall submit the examination application and pay the fee for all papers INR.1400/-

Payment Methods:

The fee should be paid through Demand Draft drawn in favor of “The Registrar, Bharathiar University, payable at Coimbatore” OR by Bank of India Challan (green color) paid into the credit of Bharathiar University Exam Fund Account.

An attested photocopy of the PG Degree certificate must be enclosed with the application by the candidate. The hall-ticket should be filled by the applicant and must accompany the application for examination.

 Bharathiar University offers following Reservation in the total number of seats available for M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses:

• 31% for open competition.
• 30% for Backward Classes, within this 3.5% for Muslims & 3.5% for Christians.
• 20% for Most Backward Class and Denotified Community/ DNC
• 18% for Scheduled Castes
• 01% for Scheduled Tribes
