If you are considering IIIT Bangalore and IIIT Allahabad for your undergraduate studies in computer science and information technology, there are several factors you should take into account before making a decision.
Before making a decision, it is essential to weigh the pros and cons of both institutes and determine which factors are most important to you. Consider factors such as city connect, peer group, course structure, focus on academics or extracurricular activities, and the environment that would help you thrive. With careful consideration, you can choose the institute that is the best fit for you and your goals.
My brother has visited both institutes. So, I know a little bit about NIT Calicut and IIIT Bangalore. If you're talking about B. Tech in CSE, NITC is undoubtedly the best.
NITC remains ahead in terms of ranking compared to IIITB. But this doesn't necessarily mean that IIITB is not a good college. IIITB is a pretty new college and has only been offering M. Tech in IT for a long time, and this is one of the reasons why it does not have much recognition among students.
IIITB does not have a B. Tech program, but recently it started offering a 5-year Integrated M. Tech program. Right now, the second batch is about to pass. The first batch has passed out with remarkable achievements. IIITB has been more of an M. Tech-focused institute since its start. The faculties are really good here.
Placements: When it comes to placement IIITB gets the upper hand. Being situated in Bangalore, the college also attracts a lot of software companies.
Infrastructure: In terms of infrastructure, NIT Calicut is way better than IIIT Bangalore.
Academics:
So, go through the above-mentioned points and make your decision wisely.
Both are great institutions in terms of academics and in terms of placements too, but there are some major factors that make IIIT Bangalore better than NIT Surathkal.
But there are few demerits of the college too like -
Life at this college can be difficult which is similar to many colleges in our country, as the environment there is not that fancy like it is shown in our movies but one can get used to it after spending a few months.
The college fest is not that great and interesting as compared to other colleges where the fests are organized in a grand way but this is slowly improving as both the students and the college are putting in efforts to make it better.
IIIT Bangalore is better than IIIT Allahabad. It offers a more hands-on practical learning experience. You will learn the concepts by doing. IIITB has a thriving research culture. At the end of fourth year, students are given an option to choose 6-month projects/internships or a 12-month-long research internship. Many students choose to do research internships at reputed institutes in India or abroad. It has a huge locational advantage as well. IIITB campus is located in one of the prominent IT hubs of Bangalore.
IIM Bangalore placements 2022 had witnessed the highest CTC of INR 202 LPA. The average CTC offered was around INR 30.78 LPA.
IIIT Bangalore is comparably better than BITS Pilani for an MTech CS. Placements for master's programs are better at IIIT B. Being located in Bangalore, the institute has a locational advantage. IIIT Bangalore MTech CSE placements 2021 witnessed the highest CTC of INR 45.6 LPA.
Since IIIT B doesn’t offer just BTech, M.Tech students get equal opportunities for placements. This isn’t the case for BITS Pilani.
iMTech is an integrated course offered at IIIT Bangalore which includes a 5-year BTech+ MTech program. It is not possible to compare a 4-year BTech course with a 5-year Integrated MTech course.

Based on the above facts and the conversation I had with some of my friends and colleagues who are pass outs from IIITB and IIITA, I would advise you to choose IIIT Bangalore with closed eyes.
To begin with, the 5-year dual degree program at BITS is significantly more costly than the 5-year iMTech program at IIIT Bangalore, as well as the 4-year BTech program at IIIT Allahabad.
Second, there's no assurance that you'll get CSE at BITS Pilani if you don't have the required CGPA. So, it will be better to consider IIITA or IIITB.
I have a few friends at IIITB and based on what I heard from them, I will definitely recommend the institute.
The arguments in favor of IIIT B are as follows.
I know several students in the iMTech program who have chosen IIITB over BITS Pilani CSE and BITS Goa, CSE.
IIIT Bangalore is not even close to IIT Delhi in terms of legacy and brand name.
There is only one scenario under which I will recommend you not to go for IIT Delhi when you are interested in CS but could get only Textile. In this case, you can always go for an old IIT.
I don’t mean to undermine IIIT Bangalore but it should be your last option.
When it comes to choosing a college and a branch for your undergraduate studies in computer science, it's important to consider various factors such as the quality of education, faculty, infrastructure, and most importantly, the placement prospects.
Firstly, IIIT Bangalore is exclusively dedicated to information technology and computer science education, while NIT Surathkal offers a wide range of engineering courses including IT and CS. However, CS at IIIT Bangalore and IT at NIT Surathkal has comparable curriculums, and you can expect to learn programming languages, algorithms, databases, networking, software engineering, and more.
Let's take a look at the current placement statistics of both colleges in their CS branch:
Now, let's talk about the other aspects of these colleges:
In conclusion, both IIIT Bangalore and NIT Surathkal are excellent choices for pursuing a career in IT or CS. However, if you prioritize a CS certificate, slightly higher average placement packages, and a central location, IIIT Bangalore may be a better option for you.
I have friends at both these institutes and based on what I have heard from them, I can vouch that the Integrated MTech CSE program offered by IIIT Bangalore is great. Here a few of the reasons why you should choose this institute for your int. Mtech.
Reputation: IIIT Bangalore is among the most reputed colleges not only in Bangalore but in the whole world.
Faculty: One of the major reasons for choosing the institute is the faculty base. You can check out the official website for the faculty profiles. Most of them have PhDs from top universities of the world like MIT, UC Barkley, IISc, IIT, etc.
Most of the faculty members also have years of experience working in the industry and they can teach you according to the current industry needs.
Research-Industry:
Hostel:
The hostels at IIIT B are amazing. It offers 24/7 water, power supply. There is also a stable internet connection available in the hostels.
Placements:
IIIT-B has had a 100% record of placement over the years. Students can complete an internship in their 10th semester in an enterprise or can complete a thesis if they are involved in science. It has a great alumni base recruited in the highest echelons of reputed MNCs.
Extra-curricular:
IIIT B has a great coding culture. The performance of the students in various coding competitions, hackathons, and the GSoC selections are proof of that.
If you look at the record, you will find students of this institute doing internships at various reputed institutes and leading MNCs. You can also lookup the impressive publication record of the institute online. Overall IIIT B is a great choice for doing an integrated MTech CSE degree.
