Need Counselling

JEE main April session is likely to be conducted around the last week of June 2020. As the government extended the lockdown third time the NITs are compelled to restructure the entire schedule and the new academic session is likely to commence from September. The organising chairman of JEE Advanced, Sidharth Pandey said that the delay in JEE Main will also cause the delay in JEE advanced and so the authorities will try to conduct JEE Advanced just 2-3 weeks after JEE Main. The tentative date for JEE Advanced is 12th July. The entire process will take time and the session in IITs and NITs is not supposed to commence before September under any circumstances. The candidates who appeared in the January session have also not got their final ranks yet. The Central Seat Allocation Board is working on a plan for the students in which the counselling process will be conducted online. As the nationwide lockdown has been extended upto 17th May the train and flights and all other means of transport will remain suspended during this period. Also there is no certainty that the flights and trains will be back to normal after this period. Online counselling will be easy and convenient as the candidates won’t be required to be present physically with documents at the counseling center.

The Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal interacted with parents and teachers and said that JEE Main April session shall not be conducted until the central government completely lifts the nationwide lockdown.

As of now the NITs have decided to commence the session from September but that is also a possibility and not certain. For admission in NITs only JEE Main is required and so the NITs can proceed with counselling process as soon as JEE Main results are declared.

Preventive Measures by Universities

Preventive Measures by Universities

Due to COVID 19 outbreak the authorities of the counselling board and the universities are determined to take precautionary measures.

  1. As the session is likely to begin in September the foreign students are advised to arrive one month prior to the date of commencement to complete their quarantine period.
  2. Plans are being formulated to eliminate counselling rounds and the verification of documents will be done online to avoid gathering of students
  3. The institutes will compensate the lost classes by providing extra classes on weekends.
  4. Students will be asked to practice social distancing even after the situation normalises.
  5. The size of the class will be reduced to avoid gathering of students. However, the batch size will remain the same and more classrooms will be allocated.

Plan to Eliminate JEE Advanced
Plan to Eliminate JEE Advanced

A large number of students are under stress due to the extension of dates of JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Due to the outbreak of coronavirus, 2020 has become an extraordinary year that has badly affected academics. JEE Advanced is mainly conducted for IITs and it completely depends on the results of JEE Main. The delay in JEE Main will result in the delay for JEE Advanced which ultimately results in the delayed start of session. The discussions are going on between the academic experts to eliminate JEE Advanced and consider JEE Main as the base for admission into IITs. If JEE Advanced will be eliminated then the students will be free from writing a high pressure exam and also the colleges will be able to start the session as early as possible. Reasons to eliminate JEE Advanced and elimination benefits, as suggested by experts, are mentioned below:

  • JEE Advanced is one of the toughest exams and to appear in it the candidates have to clear JEE Mains and the delay in the results will affect other similar exams.
  • There are suggestions to use only JEE Main and not JEE Advanced as the base for admission to IITs and that should be done only for this year.
  • The top 10,000 ranks in JEE Main and top 10,000 rank in JEE Advanced must be considered as the same set of students which will make it easy to allow admissions without conducting JEE Advanced.
  • Another suggestion is that if the situation got controlled by 15th June then both JEE Main and JEE Advanced can be conducted but if the situation remains the same then it will be a problem because for conducting JEE Main board exam is necessary.
  • The structure of examination of JEE Main and JEE Advanced must be redesigned to meet this extraordinary situation.
