JEE Main is an entrance examination for admission in the top engineering colleges in the country. Earlier different institutes used to conduct different entrance tests for admission in engineering courses all over India. But now, JEE Main has become the single entrance test to get admission to undergraduate engineering programmes, i.e. B.Tech and B.E. in India.

HRD ministry has prescribed only a single engineering entrance test for all the institutes. Various seats in the various engineering institutes of the country including those in IITs, NITs, IIITs, government funded GFTIs and private engineering colleges, state-run colleges etc. will be filled by the common JEE Main examination. JEE Main Seat Allotment

JEE Main Seat Allotment begins once JEE Main and JEE Advanced results have been declared. JEE Main participating institutes 2020 will consist of National Institute of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs). The governing body handovers the results data to the Seat Allocation Board or concerned state government/ Institute for holding seat allocation and admission procedure. There will be a special round of Seat Allotment after the final round of allotment of seats in IITs, GFTI’s and IITs, which will be conducted by CSAB.

The GFTIs have to participate in the joint seat allocation procedure conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for candidates who qualify the JEE Main exam. The number of seats that are offered in each of the GFTIs is different for each institute. Candidates can go through the article that is given below to know the names of GFTIs.

Seat Allotment Procedure

The seat allotment in JEE Main 2020 is completely based on the merit list and the choices that the candidates make in JoSAA and CSAB.

  • Candidate will not be allowed to participate in the further rounds of counselling if he rejects the allotted seat once.

  • After the seat allotment is done by the JoSAA, the CSAB counselling will take place.

The selected candidates must follow the steps given below to participate in JEE Main 2020 Counselling:

Step 1 – Online Application

  • First of all, Visit the official website of JoSAA or CSAB to register for the counselling.

  • After that, Click on the link for the registration and fill in all the required details.

  • Fill in all the details carefully to avoid any mistake.

  • After filling the details for the registration, Students are required to make the payment required for counselling. Students can pay the fees via challan, debit card or can use the credit card for the same.

Step 2 – Choice Filling

  • After completing the registration successfully, Students should fill their choice of colleges as per their preference.

  • For that, Students are required to login to their account and mark options of colleges and courses to fill the preference.

  • The choices once made will not be changed or altered once submitted.

Step 3 – Seat Allotment, Document Verification, and Reporting

  • JEE Main Seat Allotment is done on the basis of the merit list where the preferences for the seats are given according to the reservation norms of the institute.

  • The Counselling for the filling of seats will be conducted in multiple rounds.

  • After filling the choice for the college, Students are required to report at the allotted center for the document verification and reserve a seat for themselves.

  • Students should submit the seat allotment fee in time in order to reserve a seat at the earliest.

  • After performing all the essential actions, a provisional admission letter will be issued.


JEE Main Documents Required

Candidate must report to the allotted institute with all the required documents. Failing to do so will result in cancellation of candidature.

The list of documents required at the time of counselling is mentioned below. Students should not forget these documents and must ensure that they are all updated before making the submission.

  • 3 passport size photographs

  • JEE Main Admit Card

  • JEE Main Rank Card

  • Date of Birth proof

  • Class 10th mark sheet

  • Class 12th mark sheet

  • Migration Certificate

  • Caste Certificate

  • Character certificate issued by the high school

  • Copy of Confirmation Page

  • Provisional JoSAA seat allotment letter

JEE Main 2020 Spot Counselling

  • In case, After the multiple rounds of counselling, there are vacant seats left, then, for the allocation of such seats, JoSAA conducts Spot Counselling.

  • Candidates do not have to apply separately for the spot counselling round in JEE Main.

  • The candidates who do not get any seat in the multiple rounds of counselling conducted before can apply for the spot counselling.

  • The candidates who have missed the registration for JEE Main Counselling earlier have to register for Spot Counselling.

  • Also, the candidates who are applying for the first time will have to lock their choices at the prior basis and make the payment of the fee before the last date.
