IIM or Indian Institute of Management Jammu provides admission to its Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) through CAT exam. Apart from CAT score, the admission also depends upon past academics, work experience, and diversity factor.

All the students who have opted for IIM Jammu during CAT 2019 Registration will be considered for preparing the merit list for final selection. There is no need to apply to the Institute separately. IIM Jammu calculates a ‘Composite Score’ on the basis of which candidates are shortlisted for the final merit list.

Latest- CAT 2019 is scheduled for November 24, 2019 (Sunday) through online mode. Application process for the same has been started. Eligible candidates can register themselves till September 18, 2019. Check CAT Eligibility

CAT Cut off is the minimum marks candidates need to secure to get admission in MBA program at their desired institute. CAT score calculation is done by using factors like Class XII, Graduation Score, CAT Score, and Work Experience, etc. There is also insertion of Diversity Factor, which is based on gender and stream of graduation. The final list of shortlisted candidates will be released in the last week of May 2020.

Check CAT Selection Criteria

IIM Jammu Admission Criteria: Shortlisting Based on CAT Scores

If a candidate fails to clear the eligibility criteria, they will not be considered for generation of merit list, irrespective of their CAT score. Candidates need to score minimum CAT percentiles to be eligible for IIM Jammu Admission Criteria 2020-22.

The following table represents the minimum CAT Cut Off required for PGP course-

Category Quantitative Aptitude Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension Total
General 80 80 80 95
NC-OBC 60 60 60 78
SC 50 50 50 60
ST 30 30 30 40
PWD 30 30 30 40

Candidates must also understand that this is just an eligibility criterion, clearing this will not mean that candidate will surely be called for admission.

IIM Jammu Admission Criteria: Generation of Merit List for Final Selection

After CAT Result, IIM Jammu calculates a ‘Composite Score’ on the basis of which candidates are offered admission. A lot of factors are involved in the ‘Composite Score’ so calculated. Let us take a look at how different factors are considered for calculation of composite score-

Scaled CAT Score

CAT Score of a candidate carries the maximum weightage of 40% in the composite score for the PGP course. Scaled CAT Score is calculated by dividing the CAT Score (not percentile) with the highest possible score in CAT and then multiplying it by 50. For example, if a candidate has scored 180 marks in CAT out of 300, the scaled CAT Score would be (180/300) * 50 = 30.

Method of Scoring: Scaled CAT Score = (Candidate’s CAT Score / Maximum Marks) X 50

Class XII Marks-

Most of the IIMs do consider the past academic scores of candidates and so is IIM Jammu. Class XII marks can carry a maximum weightage of 10 marks in the composite score. Different percentages in Class XII carry different scores in the composite score.

Here is a table representing the scores given to different percentages in Class 12 in the composite score-

Percentage Score in CS Percentage Score in CS
80.01-82.00 1 90.01-92.00 6
82.01-84.00 2 92.01-94.00 7
84.01-86.00 3 94.01-96.00 8
86.01-88.00 4 96.01-98.00 9
88.01-90.00 5 98.01-100 10

Graduation Marks-

Candidates can get a maximum of 10 marks in composite score on the basis of their graduation percentage. The Graduation score of the candidate is normalized for each kind of stream (Engineering/Science/Commerce/Arts/Others).

IIM Jammu uses a mathematical formula for normalization, but the variable of that formula actually depends upon the graduation scores of other candidates who have been shortlisted.

Therefore, candidates, instead of figuring out their composite score on the basis of graduation, should just keep in mind that maximum of it can be 10 and this score is relative, not fixed.

Work Experience (WE)-

Work Experience carries a maximum weightage of 20 marks in PGP. Candidates must not forget that work experience up to July 31, 2018, will only be considered for calculation of Composite Score.

Work experience points can be calculated by the following method of scoring-

For PGP Program, where WE are more than 6 months then WE = Min (X-6)

Diversity Factor-

IIMs have introduced a new diversity factor for admission into their courses, on the basis of Gender and Academic Background. Female candidates will get 5 points for diversity factor for all kinds of courses, irrespective of their graduation stream.

Candidates who have done their graduation in the academic disciplines mentioned below will get 5 points of diversification.
