IIM Calcutta PGP-PGDM Selection Criteria-  IIM Calcutta offers 2-year Post-Graduate Program in Management (PGP-PGDM) which is a full-time residential course. The course structure consists of the core curriculum, a summer internship and elective courses (optional).

Admission to PGP-PGDM program at IIM Calcutta is done through CAT score. Qualified candidates on the basis of their marks obtained in CAT exam will participate in Personal Interview (PI) & Written Ability Test (WAT). The final selection is done through overall performance of the candidate.

Candidates are shortlisted for calculation of composite scores after they qualify CAT Cut Off. The overall CAT cut off required for IIM Calcutta Admission Criteria by a general category student is around 90 percentile.

CAT 2019 is scheduled for November 24 through online mode. The registration for same has been started from August 5. The application fee for general candidates is INR 1900 and for reserved candidates INR 900.


Eligibility for PGP-PGDM in IIM Calcutta

IIM Calcutta Admission Criteria for admission to PGP-PGDM Course is given below-

  • Valid CAT Score
  • A candidate should have completed a bachelor’s degree (in any stream) with at least 50% marks.
  • 5%-mark relaxation is given to the candidates belonging to reserved category (SC/ST/PwD).
  • In case, a candidate is awarded grades or CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades and CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where the bachelor’s degree has been obtained.
  • For the university/institute which doesn’t have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks then it can be obtained by multiplying the maximum CGPA with 100.
  • The partial fulfilment of minimum eligibility criteria may result in cancellation of candidature as it is verified at various stages of IIM Calcutta selection process.

IIM Calcutta Admission Criteria for Shortlisting and Final Selection

Shortlisting for Personal Interview (PI)

After the declaration of CAT result, candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of CAT score, past academic performance (class 10, 12 and graduation) and prior work experience.

Stage 1: Eligibility for PI

IIM Calcutta shortlists candidates for PI on the basis of CAT Scores. The table given below represents IIM Calcutta Previous Year CAT Cut off, you can check the previous year cut off for future reference.

Candidates clearing CAT cut off will only be considered for calculation of their composite scores. The shortlisting of candidates for PI is done on the basis of a composite score.

Stage 2: Calculation of Composite Scores for Shortlisting for PI

The Composite Score is calculated on the basis of CAT score, Class 10 and Class 12 aggregate percentages and Gender Diversity Factor. The method of allotting points for class 10 and 12 percentages based on aggregate scores is mentioned below:

The composite cut-off score is used for short-listing the candidates for the PI stage in each category. The number of candidates shortlisted for the PI stage would be the discretion of the institute and would depend on the number of seats available.

What is Gender Diversity Factor?

Gender diversity component is applicable only for the pre-PI rank list for interview calls, and will not be applicable for phase 2 of the admissions process. It is further divided into- Academic and Gender.

The Academic Diversity Factor ensures diversity in academic streams and the Gender Diversity factor aims at a proper ratio of males to females, by awarding a certain percentage of marks to the female candidates.

The weightage of these factors varies depending on the institute.

Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI)

Candidates based on their composite score will be called for the PI stage of the selection process that would comprise a Personal Interview (PI) and a Written Ability Test (WAT).

  • IIM Calcutta Admission Criteria uses is a 2-phase selection process- Clearing CAT Cut Off, Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). 
  • WAT and PI will be conducted on the same day.
  • Candidates shortlisted for the PI process will have to take WAT on a topic provided by IIM Calcutta.
  • The topics for WAT will generally reflect current socio-political, economic and business affairs, though other topics such as sports and those that require more creative thinking may also be included.
  • Duration of WAT will be of about 30 minutes.
  • During the personal interview, the panel will evaluate each candidate's performance on academic background, quality of work experience and other personal traits.

  • Training/Project work/work done as an integral part of curricular requirement will not be considered.

The final selection list of CAT will be based on merit in each category, minimum qualification on the above-mentioned criteria would not automatically qualify the candidate for admission into IIM Calcutta.
