CAT 2021 Result is declared and Aman Goel has scored a total of 99.66 percentile. While sharing his success story, Aman talks about using mock tests, time management, practicing using previous years’ question papers, and self-studying using preparation books like Arun Sharma CAT Prep Books.

For CAT Preparations, Aman used to read newspapers, magazines, and novel books daily. He would practice each section using various study materials that can be downloaded online and bought from stores. He built on this basic knowledge using mock tests and CAT Practise Papers.

Ans: No

Ques: What were your CAT overall and section-wise scores in the exam?

Ans: My total score for CAT 2021 is 99.66

  • VARC - 92.01
  • DILR - 100
  • QA - 95.96

Ques: When and why did you think of appearing for CAT Exam?

Ans: I always had an interest in business and the corporate world, and was always focused on this path. During my college years, I got to know about CAT exam and decided to attempt it to land into a top business school in India

Ques: Did you join any CAT coaching institutes? If yes, which one? If not, why did you go for self-preparation?

Ans: No I didn't join any CAT coaching institute, I opted for self-preparation because I had the confidence to prepare and do well for the exam. With a little more hard work and trying to dig on the internet they can get a lot of free material on different sites which can help them

Ques: What was your preparation strategy for Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension sections?

Ans: When I started CAT VARC Preparations, I was bad at it, and could only answer 2-3 questions correctly out of 10.

  • By reading various books, newspapers, and articles, I started improving. Reading has helped me and also
  • I tried to get out of my comfort zone while selecting which novels or which articles to read so I can prepare myself for the worst.

Ques: What was your preparation strategy for Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning sections?

Ans: CAT DILR section was always my strength because I like to solve puzzles. For CAT DILR Preparations,

  • I studied using Arun Sharma's books and solved questions from every difficulty level. This helped me a lot with my improvement.
  • I found some cube-related questions hard, however, practicing them repeatedly I improved a lot. I think that practicing a lot of questions helped me in getting 100 percentile in DILR

Ques: What was your preparation strategy for the Quantitative Aptitude section?

Ans: I started CAT QA Preparation strategy was to practice as much as possible, I try to solve as many as possible questions of different topics so my basics will get stronger and I can tackle any question of that topic and also worked on my time and tried to solve questions without pen and paper to increase my speed. I used a career launcher's book for quant preparation.

Ques: How was the last few days before CAT exam?

Ans: In the last few days before the exam I tried to revise what you have learned till now. I tried not to study a new topic or try to do something new. And the most important thing in the last few days before the exam is to have self-confidence and trust yourself that you have done enough preparations and that you can nail the exam.

Ques: Which mock tests helped you crack CAT 2021?

Ans: For CAT Mock Tests, I used the Career launcher's mock tests, which are good, as they have a blended mixture of different mock tests of various difficulty levels.

  • This helped me to prepare for every case scenario. I used to score around the 95-98 percentile in the mock tests.
  • After attempting the tests, I used to analyze and have feedback on my performance.
  • Through good analysis after every mock attempt, try to remember the things you have done wrong and then try not to repeat them in the next mocks and also take note of different solutions offered and compare it with your methods and choose the most effective and efficient one.

Ques: One mistake which you think you should not have made (During CAT or preparations)

Ans: I don't think I have any regrets or anything while looking back at my preparation journey because I am happy with my result and the hard work I put in. For every aspirant out there, I just want to give one piece of advice that is to just believe in yourself.

Ques: Please recreate the moment for us when you first saw your CAT result

Ans: I was in my room watching a movie when I got an email from IIM that CAT results are out, I daily started shivering at that moment. After seeing my results, I informed my mother first then my other family members and friends

Ques: What are your next plans? And how do you plan to clear the GD-PI?

Ans: My dream college is FMS and IIM and I'm trying very hard to crack their interviews, through CAT GD - PI Preparations, if I get a call from them. I'm preparing by being aware of current affairs and building confidence and improving my communication skills

Ques: What are your long-term goals and how do you think getting into your dream college will help you achieve that?

Ans: My long-term goal is to bring a change to the business world. I idolize many different personalities in the business and corporate world and some of them have changed perspectives and people’s ways of thinking and made some remarkable contributions in the business world. By getting into my dream college will provide me with the skills and platform to achieve my goals

Ques: What should be an ideal 6-month preparation strategy to equip for CAT?

Ans: For the first 3 months of preparing for every section, study all the topics in different sections and learn your basics.

  • For the next one month, practice as much as possible and analyze your weaknesses and strengths.
  • In the last 2 months, try to give as much as possible mock tests and every mock test analysis, will provide you good insight for the real exam and try to improve your score
