CAT Quantitative Aptitude Percentages: Formulas

These are some of the simple formulas for the percentage that are given below.

  1. Given Value/Total Value x 100
  2. Amount of change/ Original amount x 100
  3. For an example, 0.65x100% = 65%

The second formula is used to find out the increase or decrease percentage.

  1. Ques. If P is x% more than Q and Q is (x - 10)% less than R then what is the value range of x If P > R,?
  1. 10% to 28%
  2. 10% to 25%

  1. Ques. There is 40% copper in an alloy of copper and aluminium. And there are ratios of copper and zinc i.e 2:7 in an alloy of Copper and Zinc. Both the alloys are mixed in a way that specifies the overall alloy. Also, there is more aluminium than Zinc. Copper includes x% of this alloy. What is the actual range of x values that can be taken?
  1. 30% ≤ x ≤ 40%
  2. 32.5% ≤ x ≤ 42%
  3. 33.33% ≤ x ≤ 40%
  4. 32.25% ≤ x ≤ 40%

  1. Ques. Earning of A is 25% more than the earning of B whereas earning of C is 25% more than A. However, earning of A is 20% more than the earning of D. And earning of E is 20% more than A. On the other side, together A, B, C, D, and E earns integer amounts that are less than Rs. 100. What is the amount in total earned by all five of them?
