CAT Bar Graph questions will give you the information about a chart or graph representing data using rectangular bars, plotted horizontally or vertically that you need to understand before solving the questions in CAT 2021 exam. In those questions, one axis will represent the comparison of categories and the other axis will represent the particular value. Some bar graphs represent data in groups, show the importance of more than one variable. There are some sample questions related to Bar Chart are mentioned below:

b) 110%

c) 115 %

d) 125%

Solution: The solution of all the questions asked above is done by simple mathematic calculations by using the concepts of averages, ratios, percentages, etc. First, understand the data given in the graph and then find the solution to the questions asked.

Ans 1: First calculate the average forex reserve and then find the ratio of the years by above the average and below the average.

Average Forex is calculated as (2640 + 3720 + 2520 + 3360 + 3120 + 4320 + 5040 + 3120) / 8 = 3480

The years below the average are 2000-01, 2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2007-08

The years that are above the average are 2001-02, 2005-06, 2006-07

Therefore, the ratio will be 3:5

Ans 2:

Forex in 2006-07 is 5040

Forex in 2003-04 is 3360

Therefore, the answer is 5040/3360 is 1.5

Ans 3: The years in which forex is higher than the previous year = 2001-02, 2003-04, 2005-06, 2006-07

Percentage increase in these years compared to last year are 2001-02 = (3720 – 2640)/ 2640 * 100 = 40.9090%

Percentage increase in 2003-04 = (3360 – 2520)/ 2520 *100 = 33.33%

Percentage increase in 2005-06= (4320 – 3120)/ 3120* 100 = 37.88%

Percentage increase in 2006-07 = (5040 – 4320) / 4320* 100 = 16.67%

Therefore, the answer is 2001-02

Ans 4: Average forex reserve is 3480. Forex Reserve of the 2005-06 year is 4320.

So, the percentage is [4320/ 3480]* 100 = 124.14% = 125%

a) 19.56%

b) 12.65%

c) 14.28%

d) 11.76%

2: Calculate the percentage of students who successfully qualify in at least one of the three exams in 2000?

a) 82.45%

b) 82.8%

c) 82.35%

d) 83.3%

3: Which year the institute gives the best result in the MBA entrance exam (in terms of percentage of students who qualify)?

a) 2000

b) 2001

c) 2002

d) Undetermined

4: How much percentage increase in the no. of students in 2002 compared to 2000?

a) 30%

b) 17.64%

c) 117.6%

d) 85%

Sol: There are some sub-categories in the bar graph as CAT, XAT, CET, and none, unlike the simple bar graph.

Ans 1: First calculate the percentage of students who qualify CAT in 2000,

According to the question, 20 students qualify CAT in 2000.

So, Total students are 170

Therefore, 20/170 *100 = 11.76%

Ans 2: Total students = 170

No. of students who are not fall in any category = 30

Therefore, percentage of students who qualify at least one = [(170 – 30) / 170] * 100 = 82.35%

Ans 3: Calculate the year-wise percentage of students who qualify at least one exam.

Year % of students who qualify at least one exam
2000 82.35
2001 [(180 – 30) * 100]/ 180 = 83.33%
2002 [(200 – 40) * 100]/ 200 = 80

Therefore, the answer is 2001.

Ans 4: No of student in 2002 is 200 and no of student in 2000 is 170.

Percentage of student higher in 2002 than 2000 is (200-170)* 170= 17.64%

Therefore, the answer is 17.64%.

a) 4666.6 surplus

b) 4666.6 deficit

c) 3836.5 deficit

d) None of these

Sol: Here various countries along with their surplus and deficit are provided. The values above the x-axis are positive and below are negative.

Ans 1: We need to calculate the here,

The ratio between the difference of highest and lowest surpluses are of UK and Sri Lanka respectively is 359.3. 94.7 is the difference between Bangladesh and Oman in terms of deficit.

Therefore, the required ratio is (349.3: 93.7)= 3.8264

Ans 2: The middle five deficit countries are India, New Zealand, South Africa, Korea, Namibia. The average of those is 1946.6/ 5 = 389.32, which is similar to Korea.

Ans 3: This question is similar to the above question. The answer is the USA

Ans 4: The net deficit/ surplus is the difference between Total surplus and Total deficit = 1850.4 – 6517 = 4666.6
