IIMs offer the best management courses in the country, the selection of which is based on CAT score, along with written ability test (WAT) and personal interview (PI). To pursue a management program in any one of the IIMs, the essential factor to consider is the IIM Cut Off. It is on the basis of this cut off, shortlisted candidates are eligible for admissions.
Cut off is the minimum score or percentile which a candidate must get to be shortlisted by a college or an institute for the next phases of the selection process. Each of the IIM has its own separate cut off to admit the best candidates from the thousands of aspirants who apply every year.
After CAT Results are announced, the exam conducting authority announces CAT Cut Off. On the basis of this, each IIMs generate their shortlisting criteria or cut off and invite students for further selection and admission process. Usually, cut off under the different categories for all the IIMs remains more or less similar, though there can be a slight variation section wise.
Besides IIMs, there are few other prestigious institutes which take admission on the basis of CAT scores. However, all the IIMs have a high range of CAT cut offs, usually 90+ percentile. The other parameters for shortlisting candidates include, Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds.
However, in recent years, GD is gradually being replaced by Written Ability Test (WAT). Each parameter has its individual weightage on the basis of which the final merit list is prepared. The parameters and their weightage vary with each of the IIMs. Candidates are shortlisted based on their CAT scores vis-a-vis IIM Cut off and are called for WAT and PI.

IIM Bangalore follows a two-phase selection process.
Phase 1: In the first phase, only those candidates are shortlisted who have secured minimum section-wise and aggregate percentile scores in CAT. Candidates securing a positive (greater than 0) raw score in all sections of the CAT will only be considered. Candidates must secure more than the IIMB cut off.
Phase 2: The second phase is Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) rounds. Only successful candidates from phase 1 will be called for the second phase of selection. Selection criteria will also include past academic records, work experience, gender diversity and another personality test.
Each interviewer in the interview round will give his/her individual score and the average of the scores will be considered. For WAT, the scores given by an independent evaluator will be considered.
