FAQs

MCA Vs MBA: FAQs

Ques. Are there any Government Jobs for MCA graduates?

Ans. In India, the minimum income of a software developer is about Rs.3.5 lakhs per year, depending on the organisation of employment, schooling, expertise, etc. With strong skills in C++ and Java/J2EE, you can get a high pay job in this area. After having ample experience in the area of IT, you can comfortably obtain a decent pay package.

  • Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL)
  • NIC, Government of India
  • Government of Haryana
  • Public Sector Banks

Ques. Is it good to take a crash course and test series at the last minute, or to study on my own?

Ans. Crash course doesn't make much sense in the last month. It's better to go for test series and mocks. Resolve previous year's papers of different entrances, including CAT, XAT, SNAP, IIFT, etc. Just concentrate on revision in the last ten days.

Ques. How many Mock tests do I have to write one month before CAT?

Ans. It should be enough to try a mock CAT in 2-3 days or 2-3 mocks a week. The best choice is to be calm and concentrate on the light revision of bad areas in order to boost final grades. It's better, though, to stop taking ridicule in the last week of the test. Reserve the last days to study everything you've done so far, and most importantly, stay calm on the day of the test.

Ques. Is it safer to seek an MBA right after graduation or to work for a few years and then settle for an MBA?

Ans. Both choices are available to you, however, it is advised that you work for a few years after graduation and then opt for an MBA. Work experience would give you a clearer view of the work situation and which MBA specialty you can select to further improve your job prospects.

Ques. What are the Benefits of work experience previous to MBA:

Ans. Job experience can give you a comparative edge over other applicants with no work experience during MBA admission. Typically, during MBA campus recruiting, most businesses tend to select an experienced candidate over a newer one. Having gained several years of experience will help you better handle the costs of your further studies.

Ques. What is the MCA test medium?

Ans. All national exams have only the English medium. MP Pre MCA Test and UP MCA test of Hindi versions, too. However, it should be understood that, because the exam is of a scientific sort, English proficiency is not very necessary.

In US, Indian software engineers earn around $60k-$80k in entry-level jobs. After 3-5 years of work experience, the salary amount becomes $90k-$130k. For software engineering professionals with around 5-10 years of experience, the salary package is around $130-$200k.

Jobs in the Software industry have little to do with the university you graduated from. The international recruiters look for skills. If you have industry-relevant skills, you will receive good placement opportunities. After doing an MCA you can get jobs in US, if you fulfill the skill requirement.

One of my cousins completed an MCA from IGNOU while doing a job. She shared her experience with me. I have summarised it in points for better understanding:

  • The Degree Certificate of IGNOU MCA will enable you to appear for an interview

  • There are regular classes on weekends. But these classes are only on paper so you can skip them.

  • Students will have to approach self-study only

  • Projects are only formalities and have no real value

  • Institutes that run the MCA IGNOU program offer no help when it comes to getting a job.

  • There is no value of IGNOU MCA in Infosys, TCS, Wipro, etc

Apart from this various advertisements in newspapers specifically mention that IGNOU candidates will not be able to apply. So I will not recommend that you complete an MCA from IGNOU.
