Established in 1852, Government Arts College (GAC) is situated in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The college is affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.

GAC, Coimbatore Diploma and UG Admission 2023

The Government Arts College is providing Diploma courses in Banking Management and Bio-informatics along with UG Programs is Arts, Commerce and Science streams. The basic eligibility criterion to apply for admission in any of these courses is to have passed 10+2 in relevant subjects from any recognised Board.

Applicants are selected purely on the basis the marks obtained in the qualifying examination and subject to availability of seats.

Key Points:

Reservations for SC/ ST/ OBC categories are given as per the norms of the State and Central Governments.
Candidates must be of 17-year as on or before December 31 of the academic year and not above 22-year.
However, SC/ ST categories are given a relaxation of up to 3-year on the same.

At postgraduate level, the College offers multiple specializations in MA, M.Com, M.Sc., MCA and PG Diploma in Web Designing. The minimum eligibility criterion to seek admission in these courses is to possess a graduate degree in concerned subjects from any recognised Institution/ University.

Selection criterion for MA, M.Com and M.Sc. in Botany, Statistics, Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology and Psychology is direct. Key Points:

Applicants with BCA/ B.Sc. (IT/ CS/ CA) degrees are eligible for Lateral entry in MCA second year.
Relaxation and reservations for SC/ ST/ OBC candidates are granted in accordance with the guidelines of the State Government and Govt. of India.
The entrance exam conducted by the university is of 90 minutes with 60 multiple-choice questions around the syllabus of the qualifying examination.

Government Arts College provides M.Phil in 8 disciplines and Doctoral degree in 7 different fields of specializations. Aspirants seeking admission in these courses must have secured a master’s degree in relevant subjects with minimum 55% marks from any recognised university.

Selection of eligible applicants is based strictly on the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination, an entrance exam conducted by concerned departments of the university, followed by an interview. For M.Phil, there is no written entrance examination. Applicants have to appear for personal interview only.

Courses are available in both Full-time and Part-time modules.
Applicants who have qualified UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET/ GATE/ Teacher fellowship holder/ scientists working with DRDO/ faculty of Defence Administrative College are all exempted from the written entrance examination for PhD admission.
SC/ ST candidates are given a relaxation of 5% to the aggregate score of the qualifying examination.

GAC, Coimbatore Application Process 2023

Application process conducted by Government Arts College is offline. However, for PG and M.Phil/ PhD courses, admission is done through Bharathiar University. In addition, the candidates applying for MCA, can register themselves online with TANCET on the respective official website for the entrance examination.

To apply for admission in the course, here are enlisted the steps to be followed –

For online:

Visit the official website of the university.
Fill in the online application form.
Submit the completely filled application form by paying the online fee of INR 300 (For General/ OBC) and INR 150 (for SC/ ST) via Credit/ Debit Card/ Net-Banking.

For Offline:

Visit the official website of the university or the college to download the application form or obtain the same from the admission office for INR 300 (General/ OBC) and INR 150 (SC/ ST).
Fee has to be paid via DD of in favour of ‘Registrar, Bharathiar University’, payable at Coimbatore (if application form is download from the website.)
Take the print out of the application form.
Fill the application form correctly.
Affix the passport sized photograph at the designated places in the form.
