The PGPM course of Great Lakes Chennai is suitable for you only if

  • You are from IT Background: This is because most of your peers will be IT GUYS, from TCS, Wipro, Infosys
  • You are okay with less pay: Almost 95% companies offer packages around 7-9 LPA including various components. The overall salary is less than 5 Lakhs.
  • Want to go back to the IT field after placements: The highest roles offered are from the IT sector else very substandard roles are offered.
  • You are willing to settle in Chennai: Most companies offer jobs in Chennai itself so if you are ready to settle in Chennai, go for it.

Honestly, the faculty, and accommodation facilities are not at par with the usual standards and you might even regret your decision as you will end up with a low salary and no career prospects.

XIMB is the better option. It has a legacy of over 31 years and boasts of an excellent 7500+ alumni base. XIMB alumni are dominating the corporate world all across the globe.

All major MNCs visit XIMB placements. Students are offered diverse profiles from reputed companies. During the 2022 placement drive, the average CTC offered was INR 17.54 LPA, and the highest CTC offered was INR 32.21 LPA.

In terms of academics, placements, extracurricular and alumni connections, XIMB is certainly better among these options.

If you're considering pursuing an MBA in Marketing, GIM could be the best option for you. This is because GIM is known for having the best marketing faculty among the options available. The faculty members are highly experienced and knowledgeable, and they provide students with a comprehensive understanding of marketing concepts and practices.

On the other hand, if you're looking for the top-ranked management school among the options provided, GLIM Chennai should be your choice. GLIM Chennai consistently ranks at the top among B-schools in the country, and it has an excellent reputation for providing a world-class education.

Moreover, GLIM Chennai has strong industry linkages and provides students with plenty of opportunities to interact with top recruiters. This is a significant advantage, as it gives students the chance to network with industry leaders and gain valuable insights into the field.

If you're looking to pursue a career in PGDM Marketing, GIM could be the best choice among GLIM, FORE, and TAPMI as it provides excellent training and education in this field. However, if you're looking for a top-ranked institution and want to maximize your chances of getting hired by top recruiters, GLIM Chennai is the way to go.

Ultimately, the decision of which institution to choose depends on your personal goals, preferences, and priorities. Both institutions offer world-class education and exceptional faculty, so it's essential to weigh the pros and cons carefully before making a final decision.

Great Lakes, Chennai is better known for its 1-year PGPM program, while the PGDM program has not gained the same level of attention or appreciation as its PGPM counterpart. Additionally, as a relatively new B-school, Great Lakes is not as established as IMT Ghaziabad, which has a rich legacy of around 30 years.

While it's true that the batch size of IMT Ghaziabad can be seen as a drawback, if you are in the top 20-30% of the batch, your placements can be comparable to top-tier B-schools like NMIMS, IIFT, and IIM I/K. IMT is particularly known for its marketing specialization, so if you want to specialize in marketing, IMT can be considered a default choice.

For an Executive Business Analytics course, Grate Lakes will be a better option. The course structure is flexible and incorporates the requirement of working professionals. The course is delivered through a balanced blend of classroom teaching and online sessions.

The curriculum is rigorous and covers topics from fundamentals to expert level. Great Lakes Business Analytics course focuses on imparting domain knowledge using Analytics techniques from fundamental to advanced levels through R and Python. Evaluation is done through quizzes, assignments, and capstone project.

Great Lakes faculty includes prominent names such as Dr. Abhinanda Sarkar (Standford alumni), and Dr. P K Viswanathan (Ph.D. from Madras University).

In terms of academics and resources, Great Lakes Business Analytics course is among the best in the country.

If you're interested in TAPMI's BFSI-oriented course, it would be a good idea to speak with seniors of that particular program for more information. However, if you're considering TAPMI's PGDM program in general, it is a pretty good option.

Great Lakes Chennai's PGDM program is relatively new, but it's already picking up momentum. The average salary package for its second batch was around 8.75 lakhs, and companies like Coke, Airtel, Lava, Snapdeal, Amazon, HDFC, Axis, Kotak, and many others recruited from the program.

It's important to note that placements are just one aspect to consider when selecting a program. Great Lakes Chennai also boasts some of the best faculty and infrastructure in India, making it a great choice for those seeking a high-quality education.

Overall, it's important to research and considers all aspects of a program when deciding where to pursue your MBA, including the course offerings, faculty, infrastructure, and placement opportunities.

There is hardly any difference between Great Lakes Gurgaon and Chennai campus in terms of education and placements. Key faculty is shared for the campuses. Placement is combined. Facilities, resources, and exposure are also similar on both campuses.

The Great Lakes Gurgaon campus also has some additional benefits as it is located near the corporate hub of Delhi NCR. Students get good exposure to diverse industries such as E-Commerce, Analytics, Internet Business, etc. They also get the chance to do live projects with corporates in NCR.

While many might have drawn several general comparisons between the institutes, my answer will target only one aspect which is your work experience.

Fresher

Freshers can refer to the following preference order.

MDI Gurgaon>Great Lakes (2-year course) >IIT Madras

Experienced

If you are someone with enough work experience,va I will suggest the following preference order

MDI Gurgaon>Great Lakes (1-year course) > IIT Madras

IIM Trichy may be a good choice if you value the brand value of IIMs. However, Great Lakes Institute of Management (GL) outperforms IIM Trichy in several areas:

  1. The average CTC at GL is INR 17.86 LPA, while at IIM Trichy it is INR 17.01 LPA. However, the one-year program at GL allows students to enter the job market faster, mitigating the difference in CTC. In addition, the batch size at GL is larger and the highest CTC offered is higher than that at IIM Trichy every year.
  2. GL has a higher quality faculty compared to IIM Trichy and can only be compared to the top 5 institutes in India in terms of faculty.
  3. GL has a larger alumni base.
  4. Some companies, such as TCS, offer higher tier profiles to students at GL compared to those at IIM Trichy. Both institutes have a focus on IT placements, making this comparison significant.
  5. GL is recognized by AMBA, one of the three largest business school accreditation organizations, and is also a GMAT preferred school.
  6. The quality of students at GL is on par with IIM Trichy. The average CAT/XAT score at GL is 94%ile, with a cut-off around 90. The average percentile is likely to be higher than IIM Trichy as the cut-offs for reserved categories at IIMs are lower.

There are numerous comparisons where GL outperforms IIM Trichy. However, other B-schools such as JBIMS, MDI Gurgaon, and IIFT Delhi may also be considered over new IIMs.

I think Great Lakes is a better option than IIM Amritsar. The following points support my opinion

  • Establishment: IIM Amritsar is a baby IIM established in 2015 and has yet to make its mark in the industry. Great Lakes is a relatively old college with a better campus and curriculum.
  • Faculty: The faculty at Great Lamar’s is more stable and varied while the faculty at IIM Amritsar comprises mostly visiting faculty.
  • Brand Name: Despite being an IIM, IIM Amritsar lacks credibility while Great Lakes enjoys a great brand name.
  • Industry exposure: Despite being an IIM, IIM Amritsar lacks the necessary industry exposure which is great in the part of the Great Lakes.
  • Placements: The placement scenario at Great Lakes is much better than that of Amritsar. So if your ultimate goal is to get a high-paying job, Great Lakes should be your choice.

Although my opinion is strongly against IIM Amritsar, it’s only because it’s a new IIM. Any older IIM is a better choice than IIT. MBA is all about investment and ROI which is great in the case of older IIMs. I have still seen many people choose Amritsar over IIT just because of the IIM tag. So do what your heart says.
