Course Structure for MBA in Marketing

A regular MBA program is of two years with either two semesters or three semesters in each year. At the end of the completion of the first year, all students have to go through a summer training program or internship which is designed to give hands on experience to the students about how an organization functions. At the beginning of the second year students select their specialization. The typical process can be shown with the following flow chart:

Course Structure for MBA in Marketing

Almost all major B-Schools teach foundation courses in the first year and in the second year students opt from a list of electives. The courses in the first year span a wide variety of area of study. Some of these are:

Area

Course

Marketing

Marketing Management, Marketing Research etc.

Economics

Managerial Economics, Firms and Markets etc.

Finance

Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting and Analysis etc.

Organizational Behavior

Organization Effectiveness and Change, Organization Behavior etc.

Information Technology & Communication

What are the Electives for MBA in Marketing?

At the beginning of the second year, a student has to select from an array of electives offered by their B-School. These electives cover a wide range of areas related to marketing. In the last few years with the advent of digital markets, digital marketing has also been added as one of the electives. The name of the electives may vary from institute to institute but can be broadly classified as follows:

  • Marketing Research
  • Consumer Behavior
  • Marketing Strategy
  • Marketing Services
  • Product and Service Design
  • Brand Management
  • Digital and Social Media Marketing
  • Analysis of Demand
  • Marketing Campaigns

Course Delivery Structure

All major Management Institutes follow a similar course delivery structure. Method of education includes Lectures, Classroom Discussions, Individual and Group Projects, Paper Submissions, Case Studies, Quizzes, Internships – Industrial and NGO etc.

Which is better – MBA in Marketing or MBA in Finance?

This is a question often asked by MBA aspirants since both Marketing and Finance have stronghold when it comes to job opportunity. To pick the best one out of MBA in Finance and MBA in Marketing is difficult. While Finance is important to sustain a company, Marketing is the main support system of a company.

The best approach is to go for the course which resonates with your interest. For example if you have excellent communication skills and are good with people then Marketing is the right choice for you.  MBA in Marketing involves travelling and is the right option for individuals with excellent people skills.

PGP Vs. PGDM

PGP stands for Post Graduate Program and is a full 2 year program offered at almost all B-Schools. PGDM is Post Graduate Diploma in Management and is just another name for PGP. There is no practical difference between a PGP course and PGDM course.

Further Academic Opportunities

MBA graduates looking for further study can always opt for a Fellow Program in Management (FPM) which is offered by all top management institutes in the country. It is a Doctoral program in Management and encourages young researchers to be innovative and hone their analytical thinking and problem solving skills.

Other than FPM Program an individual can also go for PhD in Management which is offered at Universities and IITs. An FPM program or PhD in Management paves way for a career in Research and/or Teaching. Average Salary for an Assistant Professor lies somewhere between 400,000 INR to 800,000 INR.

The placement scenario for MCA is not considered as good as it is for B.Tech students in KNIT Sultanpur. The thing that matters the most is your consistency in working during MCA.

My brother has recently graduated from IET and based on his experience, I can suggest you a few points:

  • In IET Lucknow, MCA student sits with B.Tech students for the placements. It becomes important to see how better you are when compared to the skills of B.Tech students.
  • As compared to the other two, IET Lucknow is the best as it had more exposure because of its city. The city gives you better options for training.
  • It is near AKTU, so if there are any new updates, you get the information early. Of all the colleges affiliated with AKTU, IET is ranked No. 1. It is an autonomous college as well.

It is important to acknowledge that MCA placements are in no comparison with that of B.Tech but still it gives better exposure as compared to any Government College. BIET Jhansi does not offer MCA, so there’s no comparison with it.

Many of the students do not find ECE as an interesting branch due to the following reason:

  1. It is often seen that India has less scope in ECE among all the other engineering branches.
  2. In the private sector, the value of CS/IT is more than ECE. They also have better packages than ECE.
  3. If the student wants to go for PSU, there is greater scope in Mechanical or Electrical.
  4. If the student wants to go for engineering services, Civil is a better option.
  5. And if the student wants to go for higher education, any branch can be taken as per their choice.

Now, coming back to the choice between the two colleges, we know:

  • JIIT Noida will help the student land a job after 4 years of engineering in ECE or any other branch in any MNC offering packages between 4-4.5 LPA.
  • If the student wants to secure a big position in any Electronics company, then they will be in the top position among the ECE graduates.
  • Very few core ECE companies visit the campus for recruitments and select a very less number of students.
  • However, the students can also try for off-campus placements.
  • The faculties at both institutes are good.

If the student wants to secure good, any college between the two can be chosen but the student will have to work hard. A lot of effort will be needed in ECE organizations.

You should not expect high as it is a government college. The faculty at BIET is not that great. Most of the classes are given by guest faculty. The classroom education is not up to the expectations.

There will be enough time for self-preparation with the help of the seniors.

There will be few things that the students need to bring with them before heading towards the hostel of BIET.

  • You need to bring your own mattresses and pillow. Only the bed is provided.
  • You need to bring your own bucket, a mug, and your personal essentials.
  • There are a lot of mosquitoes and thus mosquito repellents are essential.

These things can be also bought by the canteen outside the hostel. Things can also be bought in the city which is 8km away.

There will be many types of students at BIET including very studious students who will never miss any class and become the teacher’s favorite.

For accommodation, the first-year students are occupied in three occupancy rooms. The second-year students are given four-seater rooms and third and fourth-year students are given single occupancy rooms. Hostels are different in all the years.

The students should meet the recent pass out and current students of the college and know the current situation.

IET Lucknow is the best Govt. college affiliated with AKTU. It is definitely better than BIET Jhansi from the placement point of view.

  • In IET, Lucknow, the placement record for CS, IT, and ECE are great. While the placement for BIET Jhansi has not been that good over the past few years. According to the recent placement highlights the highest and median CTC offered at IET was 36 LPA and 5 LPA.
  • Also, IET is situated in the state capital. So, you will have access to reputed coaching centers for entrance examinations like GATE, CAT, etc.
  • Both the institute offers average campus and facilities.

Overall, going by all these factors, I will say IET, Lucknow will be better.

At BIET Jhansi, you will be most likely to learn subjects that have no connection with Computer Engineering. It will include subjects like C language and its basics. But if you have any basic knowledge of any of these programming languages like C, C++, Java then there’s nothing to worry about.

  • If you want to read something, then you should try out Pointers in C. This one is definitely worth it and will provide you with valuable information related to your syllabus.
  • There is a departmental library where you can find many books related to your syllabus and subjects.
  • You can also manage to find PDF files that are available online for free.
  • An online library is also available at BIET Jhansi where you can find more than 200 books of every genre ranging from romance, thriller to personality development with multiple copies available for each book. These books will be enough for you to read in your free time according to your interests and gain more knowledge.

Don't carry any such book as there are plenty of books available in the departmental library for every requirement. Also, with an online library, you will find books on every genre including your subjects books too.

The best advice and answer for your question would be to, “Follow your heart". This is not supposed to be cliché but the best choice that you can make would be the one where you believe your career is.

If you have a keen interest in machines, automobiles, and thermodynamics, then you must opt for Mechanical Engineering. If you hold an interest in circuit branches, then you should opt for Electrical Engineering. If you realise your niche and have an honest interest in your branch then your choice of college would not matter much as the Course curriculum for Engineering is almost the same for both colleges.

A lot of people believe that Mechanical Engineering is the toughest but you should do your research before opting for your branch. Choosing the right branch will also give you enough time to prepare for CAT while attending your college.

Thapar University can be the best option if you can afford the fee. You will be given better job opportunities once you complete the degree. BIET Jhansi is recognized in UP only and the placement opportunity is very less. A few of my friends from BIET Jhansi have often complained about lack of resources and a very competitive environment.

You should definitely go ahead with HBTU for IT and Electronics. Here are some of the reasons for this:

  • HBTU is a far better institute as compared to BIET when it comes to parameters like faculty, placements, and infrastructure as well the crowd.
  • If you are mainly concerned regarding placements, at HBTU you will get a larger pool of companies to apply to as compared to BIET. To put things into perspective, you will get all companies that visit BIET for CS at HBTU and many more.
  • Faculty and seniors wise, HBTU is definitely much better. It is in a better city to live in and also has a really good campus.
  • IT and Electrical Engineering are two separate branches at BIET. Both of them are self-financed as BIET runs it on its own budget. It does not get the regular status with the other branches at BIET. Moreover, you will also notice that the fees are higher as compared to others.
  • HBTU will also be a much more logical choice. Taking admission here is also a smooth process.

The following table shows the placement statistics of 2020 batch for HBTU Kanpur:

There are primarily three major factors that determine whether a college is good or bad. These include - facilities, placements, and faculty. Let me provide you a brief insight about it, which might help you understand it a bit better.

Facility:Since JSS is a private college, the infrastructure and the facilities are much better than other institutes in the city.

Faculty: All three institutes, BIET, KNIT, and JSS, is affiliated with AKTU and the faculty belong to the same level of expertise.

Placements:JSS provides good industry exposure. The location of JSS is also pretty convenient as it enables access to places near and far.

Categories BIET Jhansi KNIT Sultanpur JSS Noida
Course Fee 2.44 lakhs 3.37 lakhs 2.2 lakhs
Highest CTC 10-12 LPA 14 LPA 18-20 LPA
Average CTC 5-6 LPA 3.5 LPA 7 LPA
Recruiting Companies Amazon, Oracle, etc. HP, TCS, etc. IBM, Infosys, etc.

It is suggested that you go for JSS, as it has better placement records than BIET or KNIT. But ultimately it is your choice and how you want your career to be shaped.

Among the government colleges, BIET Jhansi is one of the best for pursuing B. Tech for civil engineering or mechanical branch. It is better than JSS as an institute if you want to prepare for competitive examinations like GATE.

Although if you are willing to pursue GATE or other such various government exams then you should keep in mind that there are no esteemed coaching institutions at Jhansi that would guide you or boost your performance/preparations for the same.

Here are some of the advantages of choosing BIET Jhansi.

  • At BIET Jhansi a 75% attendance is not deemed compulsory.
  • Since it is a government college the fee is decent and economical.
  • Moreover, the college has a pleasant environment with cooperative seniors.
  • Students are provided with single-seater hostels in their 3rd and final years.
  • Students score really well in competitive examinations like GATE. Back in 2018 one of the Civil Engineering students secured AIR 132 rank.
  • The placements are decent, according to the highlights the average CTC offered is 3 LPA.

One of the main disadvantages of choosing BIET is the scarcity of water.
