Remarks:

The admission process was similar to other IIMs' admission processes. Firstly IIM Amritsar sent us a cut-off mail through the CAT score and we have to apply through a form whose charge is 1000 for general. After that, they shortlisted students for a personal interview round, and based on the interview and the CAT score they shortlisted the final students for admission. There were 5-6 lists issued by them.

Remarks:

I took CAT 2021 to get into college. The application form was opened in the first week of August and was closed in mid September. The exam took place in the last week of November. The application fee was between Rs.1500 to Rs.2000. I got 87.61%ile in this attempt. This was my casual attempt but somehow I was able to achieve this score. The Cut-Off for OBC was 80%ile overall and the sectional cut-offs were 65%ile each. However, As far as I know, they shortlisted people above 85%ile. The interviews were scheduled in March and the shortlist was announced in the first week of June. All this time I was waiting for the results full of anxiety and stress. And finally, it happened!

Ques
What is the preferred order among IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodh Gaya, or IIT Roorkee for taking an MBA course? Where should I attend?

● Top Answer By Sumit Ghose on 30 Mar 23

Ans
My brother has offers from Bodhgaya as well as Amritsar but chose the former for a number of reasons. Some of these reasons have been listed below  IIM Bodh Gaya was initially under the mentorship of IIM Calcutta for five years and thus adopts a similar teaching methodology which is phenomenal. The curriculum caters to various arenas of Management and is updated to meet the changing demand of the industry. Despite being a new IIM, it has been able to make its mark in terms of batch size, profile, academics, and placements. IIM Bodh Gaya Placements 2023 has a record of 100% placements. The average salary increased by 33% at INR 16 LPA whereas the highest salary increased by more than 100% at INR 48.58 LPA. 70 recruiters participated in the placement drive. Some of the top recruiters are Amazon, BNY Mellon, Deloitte, HCL, Infosys, and ICICI Bank  Several clubs and committees run by students keep the campus life dynamic and promote extracurricular activities as well. An E-Cell runs to promote startup culture among the students through summits, events, and competitions since its inception. IIM Bodh Gaya is known for its academic rigor and thus has collaborations with various international B-schools for an exchange program for both the students and the faculty members.  The ROI is also high around 99% IIM Bodh Gaya is a perfect blend of academic rigor, and opportunities for growth and extracurricular activities and thus should be preferred over IIM Amritsar. As far as IIT Roorkee is concerned, MBA is best done from a Business School as the environment is an important factor that is lacking in the case of an engineering college like IIT Roorkee.

Ques
What should one choose between IMT Ghaziabad (Marketing) and IIM Amritsar?

● Top Answer By Devesh Mishra on 05 May 22

Ans
You should choose IMT Ghaziabad Marketing. The institute has quite a reputation for their marketing branch. TMT G has an excellent faculty base for Marketing. The strategic location near Delhi NCR and the well-developed alumni network in the marketing sectors are some of the other reasons that make IMT Ghaziabad a better option.  During IMT Ghaziabad placements 2022, around 40% of the students got placed in the marketing sector. The average CTC received by the students of this specialization is INR 11 LPA.

Ques
Are the six newest IIMs a good option? (i.e., IIM Nagpur, Vizag, Amritsar, Sirmaur, Bodhgaya, Sambalpur)

● Top Answer By Ashmita Mukharjee on 29 Apr 22

Ans
It depends on your profile. If you are a general category student with good academic records - more than 85 percent throughout 10th, 12th, and graduation, then old IIMs will be better.  If you aren’t getting the old IIMs, you can consider new IIMs like IIM Nagpur, Sambalpur, Vizag, Amritsar, Sirmaur, and Bodhgaya. Being part of any recently established institute is a different experience altogether. You will get to set the culture on campus which your juniors will inherit. These baby IIMs have decent placements. You will get placement opportunities through campus drive if you have a good academic record. Here are the average CTC statistics for these IIMs. Institute  Average CTC  IIM Nagpur  INR 15.21 LPA IIM Vizag INR 15.06 LPA IIM Amritsar INR 14.63 LPA IIM Sirmaur  INR 12.74 LPA IIM Bodhgaya  INR 12.36 LPA IIM Sambalpur  INR 12.64 LPA If you are willing to work hard and want to take advantage of opportunities that come with newly established institutes, then you should join these new IIMs.

IIM Amritsar offers an enviable campus life.  It has a brilliant pool of faculties. Ques
What is the cutoff for IIM Amritsar (general) and other baby IIMs (estimated percentile required for conversion, not just calls)?

● Top Answer By Ibra Zahoor on 06 Feb 23

Ans
It is possible to achieve a high percentile in the CAT exam, such as 99+, and still not receive an invitation from any Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). This is because a high percentile alone is not always sufficient for guaranteed acceptance. It is important to note that IIMs take into consideration a candidate's overall academic performance since the 10th standard and not just their CAT percentile. Additionally, candidates must also clear the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. Furthermore, candidates from an engineering background may have a slight disadvantage in terms of points. Some IIMs also place a significant emphasis on work experience. Category Quantitative Aptitude(Percentile) Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning(Percentile) Verbal & Reading Comprehension(Percentile) Total(Overall Percentile) Section-1 Section-2 Section-3 General 80 75 75 85 EWS 80 75 75 85 Non-Creamy Other Backward Classes (NC-OBC) 65 60 60 75 Scheduled Castes (SC) 55 50 50 55 Scheduled Tribes (ST) 35 35 35 40 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) 35 35 35 40 It is highly recommended to visit the official websites of the IIMs you are interested in for detailed information on the selection criteria and to keep yourself updated. You can also connect with current students via LinkedIn to gather more information. It's important to note that selection criteria can slightly change every year.

Ques
I had scored 76.5/81.4/75 in 10th, 12th, and graduation respectively with zero work experience. I am a non-engineer. Is there any chance to get IIM Amritsar, Vizag, and Rohtak?

● Top Answer By Pragya Tripathi on 06 Feb 23

Ans
Based on your academic performance, you have the potential to be admitted to the top 30 colleges for MBA programs. It is recommended to focus on preparing for and achieving the best percentile possible in exams such as CAT and other relevant exams. It is unclear who has provided you with the options previously mentioned, but it is important to consider other options that may be more suitable for you. Some of the options that you have a chance to receive an invitation from and potentially convert into an acceptance include the following: Indian Institute of Management - Calcutta (IIM-C) New Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Management Development Institute (MDI) T.A Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) International Management Institute (IMI) FORE School of Management Mudra Institute of Communications (MICA) Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB) Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) Symbiosis Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) It is always important to make informed decisions by researching and discussing your options before making a final decision.

Ques
Which one would be better for an MBA for a fresher, DoMS, IIT Madras, or IIM Amritsar?

● Top Answer By Harsha Singh on 06 Feb 23

It is recommended not to join any of the 2 mentioned colleges, neither DoMS, IIT Madras nor IIM Amritsar, as the placements at newer Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are not yet on par with top colleges. Placements at newer IIMs are still evolving and it may take at least a decade for them to stabilize and for the demand for MBA degrees to increase in the long run. It is important to note that Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are not generally considered to be top colleges for MBA programs, although IIT KGP and IIT Bombay have made a name for themselves. These institutions are primarily known for their strong focus on technology. If you are considering top MBA programs, IIT Madras is a good option due to its brand recall. The institution has the potential to attract top tech companies to offer MBA roles as well. Older IITs have a well-established reputation which newer institutes may not yet have. It took almost 3 decades for IIM Lucknow to reach its current level of prestige, and that was without the level of competition that newer IIMs face in attracting the best companies and roles on campus.

Ques
Which one should be preferred between Great Lakes, Chennai PGPM, and IIM Amritsar?

Ans
When considering which postgraduate management program to pursue, there are several factors to consider. One such factor is the duration of the program. Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai (GL) offers a One-year PGPM program, while the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Amritsar has a 2-year PGPM program. If you are looking to re-enter the job market sooner, Great Lakes may be a better option for you.  Another factor to consider is the alumni base of the institution. Great Lakes has a larger alumni base than IIM Amritsar, which may provide more networking opportunities. Additionally, Great Lakes offers a unique Karma-Yoga program where students learn leadership skills while giving back to society by helping the surrounding villages. It's worth noting that IIM Amritsar is a relatively new institution, established only around 7 years ago. While it has the coveted IIM tag, it may not have the same level of prestige or reputation as older IIMs. However, if the IIM tag is important to you, and you are willing to work harder than your peers and give your best in those 2 years, IIM Amritsar may be a good option for you. Ultimately, the decision of which program to attend will depend on your personal priorities and what you want to gain from the program. It's important to do your own research and weigh the pros and cons of each institution before making a final decision.
