The Need Based Scholarships are especially designed for the meritorious students with limited finances to afford learning.

Universities
Students pursuing the National Fellowship programme for any of the courses like M.Phil and Ph.D belonging to PwD category are eligible to apply. There is no such annual income ceiling in the National Fellowship for PwDs.
Selection Criteria
For Ph.D. - First class or 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Master's Degree. Those having an existing post and employer are preferred for further financial support.
For Masters' Degree: - 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Bachelor's Degree. Preference would be given to the experienced candidates.
- Scholarships for Girls
Amongst all the scholarships mentioned above, there is a 50% quota especially reserved for girls. Implying that be it Top Class Education Scholarship, National Overseas Scholarships or Free Coaching.
Moreover, in the National Fellowship Financial Aid Programmes, girls have a reserved quota of 30% to access such financial assistance.
Note:- In case there are an inadequate number of girl candidates or found ineligible as per the terms and conditions of the scheme, the unutilized slots can be utilized by filling in with eligible male students as well.
General Eligibility Criteria for Government of India scholarships
- The scholarships are open to nationals of India only.
- In total, 6 scholarships are available and applicable for students with disabilities (with more than 40% disability) and having a valid certificate of disability.
- Not more than two children with disabilities of the same parents will be entitled to receive benefits of the scheme. (Provided in case the second child is a twin.)
- Scholarships for studying in any course/ class will be available for only one year. If a student has to repeat a class, she / he would not get a scholarship for that class for a second (or subsequent) year.
- A scholarship holder under this scheme will not hold any other
scholarship/ stipend. If awarded any other scholarship/ stipend, the student can exercise his/her option for either of the two scholarships/stipends,
