Ques. Can a diploma holder join engineering directly in the second year at Sharda University?

Ans. Yes. Holding a diploma degree opens the door to direct second year entry. A transfer from another university with good marks is equally workable, provided the guidelines fixed for that particular course are met.

Ques. Who becomes eligible for a fee waiver at the university?

Ans. Eligibility opens up once a candidate has cleared SUAT along with the Personal Interview. From there, the amount of the waiver depends on academic credentials and on achievements in sporting and cultural fields, and it can run from a partial concession to a full waiver of tuition fees. Entrance rank based awards, sports awards, defence family concessions and sibling concessions are all part of the list.

Ques. How is the SUAT paper structured?

Ans. The test runs for 90 minutes and is split into two separate categories:

  • Technical: covers BTech level Physics, Chemistry, Maths or Bio and Languages.
  • Non-Technical: built on problem solving, analytical skills and language proficiency.

Sample papers can be downloaded from the university website by anyone who wants them.

Ques. What kind of pay do CSE graduates take home from campus placements?

Ans. Packages begin in the range of 3-5 Lakhs and rise to a highest offer of 12 lakh. Recruiters visiting the campus include several Fortune 500 names such as Amazon, Cognizant, Cafe Coffee Day and Yes Bank.

Ques. Are any programmes run through distance mode here?

Ans. No, distance education is not part of the current offering. All 216 courses run by the university are delivered as regular classroom programmes.

Ques. Do overseas students receive health cover on campus?

Ans. Yes. Every international student falls under a Group Mediclaim Policy, which works on a cashless basis and takes care of hospitalisation expenses at all the major hospitals named in the policy. The International Relations Division shares the full details of the policy on request.

Ques. How does selection work for the BBA programme?

Ans. The route to a BBA seat runs as follows:

  • Sit for the Sharda University Admission Test (SUAT), which is a straightforward aptitude test drawn from subjects studied in the 10th and 12th standard.
  • Qualifying candidates are then called for an interview.
  • A minimum of 60% marks in the 12th standard is the eligibility requirement.
  • International applicants are exempt from SUAT. They submit their credentials instead, and admission follows once the eligibility criteria are found to be met.

Ques. Does the admission office work over the weekend?

Ans. No, admission work does not happen on Saturdays or Sundays. On weekdays the university can be reached through the helpline number published on its official webpage.

Ques. How active is the programming environment on campus?

Ans. Since the university is known for its engineering courses, considerable effort goes into strengthening them further. Computer Science related streams cover a range of programming languages together with hands-on coding in each of them, and the university regularly organises coding events and workshops for interested students. For anyone whose aim is to learn coding and multiple programming languages, CSE and the allied computer science fields here are a sound choice.

Ques. Are students from open boards such as NIOS considered for admission?

Ans. Yes, they are. NIOS carries affiliation with the Ministry of Human Resources in the same way as CBSE, ICSE, ISC and the state boards, and the qualification is recognised by foreign universities as well. No distinction is drawn against such applicants, though selection still rests on the entrance examinations and the interview.

No, these universities almost have zero credibility. You have to realize the fact that the main goal of these big universities is to make money.

I have heard a lot of reviews from my friends who studied at these universities. Following are lesser-known facts about these universities:

  • During the admission, you will be told about the institute and will be assured about top-class facilities including AC in your classrooms. When you get allured in, you will face reality. Your expectations will be barely met.
  • Most of the teaching faculties are newly appointed with most of them having no experience in teaching at all. Most of them will vanish after that semester and again, new faculties are appointed.
  • Attendance criteria is very strict and teachers' way to control students. Even if you are five minutes late to the class, talking in class, or unable to answer a question in class, you are marked absent.
  • There is no particular format for allotting the internal assessment or Semester end exam marks. If teachers are not that fond of you, you are definitely going to have a tough time here.
  • Making students reappear in their exams is a new scheme of making money for these institutes. Whenever the results are out, around 80% of the class is going to fail in one or more papers. To reappear for one paper, you have to pay 5-8K.
  • Fee demand is very high and ROI is very low, due to which the number of students drop out every year.
  • You will be judged in every aspect, based on what you are wearing, that too if you are a girl. You will be sent back to hostels.

Overall it's a no-brainer to avoid attending these institutes. Paying so much when you are getting so little in return, makes literally no sense at all. So think twice before opting for any of these institutes.

Apart from offering excellent placements, the university also boasts of an impressive internship culture. Students have ample opportunities to participate in internship programs held on campus. This provides them with a chance to gain hands-on experience in the field of CSE and work with top companies in the industry.

A friend of mine used to stay at the Mandela Hostel. It had attached bathrooms and laundry service as well. The hostel is costly and the quality of food at the hostel is also good.

The features of Mandela Hostel and Vivekananda Hostel are:

  • The rooms of Mandela Hostel are spacious and are of better quality. One room is given to two occupants.
  • Mandela Hostel does not have balconies but the Vivekananda Hostel does.
  • Mandela Hostel provides a nice view of the campus. The view changes based on your room in the Vivekananda Hostel.
  • In addition to that, there is also a barbershop in the Mandela hostel and a café. There is unity among the students who live in Mandela.

The atmosphere of the Mandela Hostel is calm mainly because students of different states live and mingle among themselves. Vivekananda Hostel is for the freshers which give it a very warm and friendly atmosphere.

One of my seniors from school used to be a student of Sharda University and from what she has told me, the university has very good campus and the hostel facilities are some of the best he has come across. She spent a week thereafter graduation. Some of the features are:

  • The entire campus of Sharda University is wifi enabled.
  • The food from the mess is decent.
  • There are double/triple sharing rooms in the hostels.
  • There are several canteens within the campus.
  • There are students from different countries like Afghanistan, Ethiopia, etc., making interaction with various nationalities possible
  • During the month of Ramadan, there are separate food arrangements for students.
  • Facilities for sports like basketball, football, cricket, etc are also in the campus.

Greater Noida is developed and if you are an outsider it would be a good idea if you take the hostel right after admission. The infrastructure of the university is amazing and there are AC/non AC rooms in the hostels as well. In addition to that, there are attached as well as common washrooms for the students. The hostels have laundries too where the first few washes are free for the students.

One of my friends was confused while taking admission to Sharda University, after coming across bad comments. But, he stuck to his decision and took admission there, and now he is happy.

Here is his insight on the Sharda University based on his experience.

Academics:

  • Academics are excellent and better than most colleges in greater Noida, all because of the dedication, hard work, and supportive nature of the faculty of the college.
  • The staff is very much supportive and helpful. You can clear your doubts after the class in their respective cabins or you can even send them a mail regarding your query.

Activities:

  • CHORUS (annual techno-cultural fest) one of the largest cultural festivals of North India. It witnesses the participation of around 35,000 students from over 238 colleges and universities from all over the world.
  • Sharda University does not simply ensure the participation of the students but, also involves students in the management team to teach the real-time tasks to manage the events successfully.
  • Some other fests as well are - CONTRIVANCE- For computer science department; CONSTRUCTO- For civil department; MEDIAMELA- For BJMC

Placement:

There is no doubt that Sharda University is one of the well-known universities providing on-campus recruitments. But if you think of pursuing a BBA, you should have a clear vision regarding your future.

One of my friends who studied at Sharda University mentioned that the BBA program provides an in-depth knowledge of management theory & practices. They also give adequate industry exposure.

  • The curriculum is designed after studying the ongoing trends and demands of the industry.
  • The program offers to learn through a credit-based strategy.
  • They are encouraged to develop an application-oriented approach which results to be more practical and useful.

It should be well planned as BBA would not allow you to work with prestigious brands. One such option that you can go with, after completing your BBA is MBA that provides you ample opportunities to enter into the corporate world.

The MBBS degree is offered by the School of Medical Science & Research (SMS&R), Sharda University, Greater Noida. It is among the best private medical schools in North India. There are a few things which make it a good school.

  • Sharda has a great setup. The campus is huge. The infrastructure of the college is great. Individual departments are well-equipped with all necessary amenities. For example, the Anatomy department has all the models, bones, preserved organs in ample numbers. Physiology and Biochemistry have all the necessary labs.
  • The lecture halls are good. Classes are usually PPTs with little board works.
  • The professors have decades of experience, you can go through the official website to check their profile. The junior staffs are also quite cooperative.
  • For OPD, the hospital has good number of patients but surgeries are uncommon. It is one of the disadvantages of the institute.
  • You will have a good peer group at the institute. The hostels are decent, food provided at the mess is better than other private institutes.
  • Unlike most private institutes, money is not the sole requirement to have a degree here. Everything is done according to the MCI regulations.

Sharda is definitely the best private institute in North India but it is not at the same level as BVP or DY Patil.

A friend of mine is doing an internship at Sharda University and is regretting each day he has to spend there. He says the money being spent for this purpose could have been put to better use.

Sharda University spends a fortune on its marketing but fails to deliver the facilities. The faculty is least interested in teaching the students and taking care of patients. The junior doctors do most of the hard work. There are very few surgeries performed. In addition to that, even normal deliveries of a sufficient number are not done. The internship involves making fake patient files. This is what they do during their clinical postings.

There are a lot of fees which are not mentioned in the advertisement(s). Other than these, Sharda University is a pretty popular college if you want to have fun. However, if you are serious about your life, look for other options.
