For B.Ed., BLIS, PG and PG Diploma courses, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum 2 years of teaching experience is required for B.Ed. course.
Students applying for Ph.D. must hold a Master’s Degree or M.Phil. Degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate.
Admission to UG, PG and PG Diploma courses are done on the basis of merit.
Securing admission in B.Ed. requires a valid score in B.Ed. - Combined Entrance Test (B.Ed. - CET).

NOU offers B.Ed., BLIS, BA, BA (Hons), B.Sc. (Hons), B.Com, BBA, and BCA programs at UG level. The minimum eligibility is 10+2 in relevant stream. For B.Ed., candidates must have a Bachelor’s with 45% marks along with 2 years of work experience. Whereas, the minimum eligibility for B.LiB. & I.Sc. program is Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

Nalanda Open University Application Process 2023

Candidates willing to apply for Nalanda Open University can fill online as well as offline application form. However, the candidates seeking admission in Ph.D. must appear for the Entrance test conducted by the University. The application process for admission is mentioned as follows:

Offline Mode

Visit the official website of the college, download, and fill-up the application form.
Applicant should send/ Submit the form in person to the following address along with the Demand Draft of Rs. 350 drawn in name of “Nalanda Open University, Payable at Patna”:

Candidate should mention the Name of applicant, Contact Number, Admission Form Number and the name of the course he has applied for on the backside of the Demand Draft.
Once the application form is submitted, it will be processed within stipulated time and the students will be intimated to visit the college campus for the Entrance Test (for Ph.D.)/ Final Admission formalities along with the required documents (Original) and stipulated admission fees.
Admission form can also be obtained from the University campuses by making a payment of INR 450/- through DD.
Candidates can also send the application fee of INR 400/- by a registered post.

NOTE - Nalanda Open University does not accept Money or Postal Orders.

Now click on the New Admission option and create a new account if you are a new applicant.
Read all the instructions carefully and proceed further to register.
Upon successful registration, you will receive a username, password and OTP via email or SMS.
Using the above credentials fill the online application form with all the required details.
Also, upload the scanned images of documents.
Submit the application form after previewing.
Lastly, pay the requisite application fee online.

Remarks:

I took admitted in 2020. Due to covid-19 pandemic, admission was started in the first week of September. The University provides both online as well as offline admissions. I took admission through an online process and it is very easy to take admission here. The application form is easily available on its official site and offline forms can be collected from its office

The process of admission to Nalanda Open University is quite nice. It is very simple to be admitted there, and the entire admissions process can be completed within a day. The university will provide you with all of the necessary study materials. You will be notified about the schedule of the upcoming examinations via Registered Post, and you can also check the schedule on the official website of Nalanda Open University. The fee structure for many of the courses offered by the university is affordable. After the examination, you will be notified of the results on a specified date (delay in the declaration of results is a myth at Nalanda Open University). Your grade sheet will be mailed to the address you provided the university. The top student in each subject receives a gold medal, and this university is a torchbearer for women's education and empowerment in Bihar. The top six girls/women are recognized for their achievements and are awarded. So, if you are considering Nalanda Open University for your studies then you should go for it.

This will later help you to pursue your further studies in post-graduate degrees, like Ph.D. So it is suggested that you work a bit harder and try to get admission in a government college with the course offered in the regular mode. However, if you merely require a master’s degree, you can pursue it from any educational institution.

IGNOU BA Economics (Hons) is better. The course structure is more flexible. Study materials are offered in both English and Hindi. You will get more time to clear your pending courses without paying additional fees. You can change the study center and examination center according to your convenience. Whereas Nalanda Open University study centers are in Bihar only. The Patna center is usually the venue for examination. The course materials of NOU are mostly in Hindi.

Will it be good to specialize in a master’s in biotechnology from Nalanda Open University?

My brother did B.Tech and M.Tech in Biotechnology. According to him, it’s not a good idea to pursue Biotechnology in distance mode. Distance mode education works best for subjects that have less practical work. Biotechnology, on the other hand, requires extensive lab work and teacher-student interactions. Basically, Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary course. So, doing a regular degree or an engineering degree in Biotechnology will be far better.
