The entrance examination conducted by EFLU Hyderabad is not easy for English Honours because there are more than 20 centers where this test takes place. There are certain reservations as well which add up to 50% of all the seats. Even if we don’t consider these numbers, the level of competition will be a real challenge. Also, it is not called BA honors, it is just BA English. One great advantage that you have is that you get to learn a foreign language consecutively for two years. The language that you opt for depends on the merit scored by you in the entrance exam. Spanish and French are usually in good demand. The admission process for this year has been completed. This is not to discourage the students from taking admission but it is important to state the facts. Campuses at Lucknow and Shillong also offer such courses where competition is relatively less. You cannot transfer from one campus to another. If you prepare according to the previous years’ question papers and have a good command of English, then it is not that difficult to get into EFLU.

EFLU is an exclusive university for English. There are 29 departments, out of which 20 are in English. With so many micro-specialties, pursuing an MA in English from EFLU is a great option. The university gives a lot of freedom in choosing subjects in post-graduation. Post-graduation applicants get a pool of subjects to choose from in their degree at EFLU. EFLU conducts only one entrance test for admission in all streams. If you clear the entrance test you will get the chance to choose whichever subject you want to pursue. You can either choose all subjects from one department only or select subjects from several departments if you want to have a mixed degree. Even, you are allowed to change subjects till two weeks of the course. The linguistic department of EFLU is very famous all over India, because of its quality of education. It has a world-class set of faculties in the department, along with an extensive library for helping students in their coursework. The literature department of EFLU is not as good as other central universities in India. Although there are excellent professors here too, the scope for students in literature is limited. Considering the quality of the linguistics department in EFLU, it is a great option for English graduates. Because of the cafeteria system of choosing subjects, there is a lot of diversity in the department.

You may want to read the following points- Firstly, there's a lot of baking soda in the food. But this is the case with hostels and messes food in general, at all Indian educational institutions. There is a mess near the campus namely Baichand which is even worse. Compared to it the EFLU mess isn’t the worst. At the mess, you can choose the timing for the breakfast. This is one of the best thing. You can visit this cafeteria next to Sagar stores, called Maitri. They serve delicious meals at all times. There are a lot of local vendors outside gate no. 2, where you can get a filling amount of dosa, idli, roti-sabzi, etc at reasonable prices.

One of my close friends studied at EFLU, Hyderabad, and here are some tips for you according to her experience. There is a canteen area termed Sagar where you usually see the same faces but may remain undisturbed. There is a small area laced with greenery where you can hang out. There is a small ground used for almost every sort of sport. If you are someone who enjoys reading, there is a rich library where you can stay absorbed in your studies. Most of your mates in the batch will be older than you if you have completed your education without any breaks or dropouts. Also, you will see a lot of foreigners on campus. They are mostly well-mannered and you never spot anyone misbehaving. Make sure that you make a couple of friends to hang around with as that will make your stay at the campus enjoyable.

The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad is a central university dedicated to the study of English and other foreign languages. Usually, the entrance test is held in late February or early March every year after submitting the online application form in early February. Since this year has seen COVID-related disruptions, the dates have been pushed back and you need to follow their website for further notifications. There are no other special criteria for the same.
