Course Description

Dibrugarh University, Assam is a state university that offers research programs in various subjects. PhD Candidates (other than from Medical and Engineering streams) must have obtained at least 55% marks in Master's Degree or equivalent grade point. Admission to PhD courses is done through Dibrugarh University Research Admission Test (DURAT) followed by an Interview.

Dibrugarh University PhD Key Highlights

Candidates with BE/B.Tech degree with a valid JRF/ NET/ GATE score can also apply for PhD program.
The University also offers admission at the undergraduate and postgraduate level for NRIs and foreign category students.
The minimum educational qualification for admission of Foreign/NRI students in various programs is the same as for Indian students.
Relaxation of 5% in all courses is given to SC/ST and OBC candidates.
The course is available in both offline and online modes.

Dibrugarh University PhD Eligibility Criteria

Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks in or equivalent Grade point. Relaxation up to 5% marks belonging to the reserved categories.
All applicants (except foreign students) must clear the Dibrugarh University Research Admission Test (DURAT) which is conducted annually by the University.
The candidates having qualified the GATE / UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/ UGC-NET (including JRF)/ SLET/ GPAT or have passed M.Phil. Programme (regular mode in concerned subject) are exempted from appearing in the DURAT. However, these candidates have to apply for admission as per the University Notification and have to appear in an interview /viva-voce for admission.
A candidate with B.E./ B.Tech. degree with a valid JRF/GATE score may also be considered for PhD Admission.

Dibrugarh University PhD Admission Criteria

Application for DURAT is through online mode only. For submission of the Online Application Form, intending candidates are advised to follow the following instructions:
The candidate shall be required to register in the portal www.dibru.online by entering Full Name, Username, Password and a Mobile Numbers to login.
A print copy of the Application Form of the DURAT 2021 is generated after submission.
A copy of the DURAT 2021 Score Card was downloaded from the university website.
The copies of the Pass Certificates and Mark Sheets from HSLC to Masters Degree.
Caste Certificate {in case, the candidate belongs to SC/ ST or OBC/MOBC (non-creamy layer), Differently Abled category.}
No Objection Certificate (in case, the Candidate is employed).
The candidates applying under (f) and (g) shall have to submit a copy of the receipt of the Application Fee of Rs.500/- deposited at Punjab National Bank, Dibrugarh University.

The Application Process:

Eligible Candidates have to apply for admission with the required documents to the Department/ Centre/ Institute concerned on or before the last date.

Selection Process:

The Teaching Department/ Centre of Studies concerned shall receive the documents of the intending candidates.
The list of the candidates invited for Viva-Voce shall be notified by the University concerned in the website dibru.ac.in.

Dibrugarh University PhD Course Details

PhD is a 3 year degree course in Dibrugarh University consisting of 6 semesters, 2 semesters per year.
There are various fields that students can opt for.
Minimum Eligibility is a Masters degree or equivalent entrance examination passed result.
It can be pursued part-time or full time.
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme covers the following areas: Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Commerce, Science, Technology, Computer Sciences, Engineering, Medical Sciences including Homeopathy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Business Administration.
Duration- The duration of the PhD. Course in Dibrugarh University is a 3 year course which consists of 6 semesters in total, 2 per year.
Course Schedule- There shall be four Courses in One-Semester Course work for the PhD programmes conducted in Dibrugarh University comprising the following components:

In this regard, students are advised to consult with the Regulations concerned.

Dibrugarh University Ph.D Program Structure

Course Work

After getting admission, a student is required to take a Six-Monthly Course Work in the Department concerned, which will include quantitative techniques, computer administration etc.
The structure of the course work will be as per the provisions in Annexure Provided, in some exceptional cases, as permitted by the Research Council, a coursework programme may be conducted in the institute recognized by the University. The Research Council may also permit the centers of research to conduct the final term examinations.

Comprehensive Exam

After completing the course, candidates will be required to give an examination to test their understanding of the course.
Then, students will be forming a Research Advisory Committee (RAC) to guide their thesis. They will conduct a thesis proposal on a research query of their course in front of RAC.
The last step involves that the students submit a final thesis, and finally defend their dissertation in front of the RAC and this will lead to the completion of their PhD. Course degree.

For Graduate students of Dibrugarh University: 80% of the total seats in every subject under M.A./M.Sc /M.Com programs are reserved.

During the first year, the students of all branches will have a common classroom for all subjects. It is from the 3rd semester that you will be well acquainted with respective branches. The teachers are very dedicated and cooperative and the classes are held regularly. Alongside academics, you would be left with enough time to excel through various extra-curricular activities. The annual tech fest “Auxesis” is held every odd semester and the University Week is held every even semester. The workload becomes exhausting during these semesters. The campus is serene and splendid. The greenery everywhere brings out the best of the serene beauty and creates an enthusiastic environment for studying. Overall, your college time here would be terrific. Everyone has their own individual perspective and opinions thus; your experience might be very much different and better too.
